hi everyone, ok this is the problem:- i was going to collage last wednesday when i hit another car from behind, so i gave her my insurance details and she just gave me her address, when i got home i checked all my car details, as i bought the car 9 months before, i couldnt believe it when i saw the MOT certificate had ran out 10 days earlier, no police were called to the scene, ive since rang the woman as its been like a weak and a half and i havnt heard out, she said shes been in touch with my insurance, and her car is gettin fixed, so why havnt i heard out? and doesnt no MOT mean validate insurance? does this mean i could be prosecuted? if the police got involved? and what could happen to me? a big fine and a ban? or points? or does it mean i could get sued from my insurance company to pay for her car to get fixed, im so worried, so any help would be gratefull, thanx Read more
Does anyone know the outcome of this sad tale?

There has been correspondence in the national press recently regarding electric disabled buggies and cyclists being requred to have at least third party insurance. Having encountered one or two locally who insist on driving along the road this may be a good idea. It might also be a good idea for cyclists but enforcement would probably be a nightmare. Read more
some of these wheeled ones are slow of body and slow
of mind and whilst I wouldn't want to curtaiul their freedom
some are an accident waiting to happen.
Indeed they are, but beware the them-and-us fallacy. Today's 'undertake you while you're signalling and turning left' cyclist and tomorrow's 'asleep in the middle lane of the motorway' could be one and the same person.
I have a mondeo 1.8TD and recently had a new intercooler fitter
due to damage, the problem is my car has little power when cold and smokes
badly but when it warms up it is fine.

How many miles has the car done? Fuel injection pump good for about 230-240,000m. Try draining or replacing the fuel filter element, that was usually the cause of excess smoking on mine.
the car has been looked at by a daewoo garage.the air con unit has 'lost its earth'? it can be temporarily re-earthed but this may not last very long.upon the garage trying to re-earth the unit it over-heated and this is a potential fire hazard and it was returned to its former broken state.we are awaiting the said daewoo garage on getting back to us after they have spoken to their technical and parts dept at their haed office re whether this has been heard of before etc.the unit cannot be permanently re-earthed and a new unit may have to be bought at the cost of £800.is this the case? Hi Laura
sorry to hear about the Leganza but it seems like a lot of money for the new unit suggested. Does the quote cover just the control panel or the whole system or is it the compressor?
I know there has been discussion here about the availability or not of Daewoo spares so you might be looking for a Leganza in a breakers for the bit if you need to save some cash or does anyone here know if the unit is shared with other Daewoos or other makes as I am told some Vauxhall bits can be swopped between the engines.
If you are lucky one of the air con boys might be along in a minute.
as ever

There was a chap on here a month ago or so who had chipped a SEAT Leon 110 up to 150bhp, worth searching for.
Well, it's that time of year again..... which in East Anglia means fog! Tonight was pretty bad, and reminded me to ask what's the consensus regarding the use of *rear* fog lights (I've read a couple of interesting threads regarding front fogs).
I've always tended to be pretty sparing in my use of these lights - they're often pretty dazzling when the fog's not too thick, and can make it hard to pick out brake lights ahead (particularly when only one's working!). Also, when driving in busy 'convoy' traffic, the sudden uncovering of a fog lamp a few cars ahead can be mistaken for brake lights, and I've often seen 'concertina' braking occur for this reason.
FWIW, I tend to use the rear fogs only when I'm driving alone or the back marker in a traffic stream and switch them off when I see someone's tagged on behind. I'll only use them 'continuously' when it's a real 'pea-souper' and I think the guy behind might have difficulty seeing normal tail-lights - even when he knows I'm there!
All this of course does demand a bit of continuous thought and appraisal whilst driving, but surely that's the name of the game...... :-) Read more

I take my hat off to you. 150K on a bike takes some doing. I rode to work, approx 35 miles a day, for 1 year on a motorbike and have lived to tell the tale. I have just got myself another bike after a few years off and can't wait to get back on the road.
Tonight a young scooter rider tried to take on my Picasso as I was turning left into my drive. The turning is about 1 metre past a busy junction. I can't indicate until I am through the junction and drive slowly to try and make other road users aware I am going to do something. Because the scooter was so close to the kerb and turning left she / he didn't see my indication and set off as I was pulling in. I was keeping an eye on them and stopped imediately but as you say their crumple zone is just that, a broken leg and a written off scooter could have been the result.

Hi
I need to get the brake drum off one of the rear wheels of my ZX. The thread that the hub nut is on has a notch, and a sleeve on the nut has been knocked into the notch to lock the nut on. Apart from an expensive air-driven impact socket, is there a safe, uncomplicated technique for removing the nut?
And when I put a new nut back on and torque it up fully (200Nm IIRC), is it dangerous to not bother to lock the sleeve into the notch (making it easier to remove next time).
Any help much appreciated.

Good advice Ian. I have, previously, "harped on" about the old days with the Ford side valves, ie, E93A type etc. I seem to remember that there was no great system of locking on these nuts but, the drums fitted directly onto a taper on the half shaft. If a half shaft broke (quite common in those days) the wheel, hub and halfshaft just slid outwards when you took the next corner. Quite alarming really but because the shackle end of the transverse spring, complete with brake backplate, was bumping along the tarmac, the "ride" did not alter much and it was a little while before you noticed.

Sorry, I should have made it clear. I am not looking
for parts but am looking to get rid of my knackered
205.
You could try advertising it for Spares or repair - free of charge. You'd have more luck if it were a GTI, especially the 1.9, they're still fairly sought after. Alternitively, are there any charities or community projects (such as teaching joy riders to drive) in your area who woud use it?
Alternitively, offer to break it. You may get the few quid for spares that it would cost you to get the rest removed. Just stick to the simple things like cylinder head, tyres, lights etc, or if someone wants a gearbox tell them it's £35 and they remove it, or free if they take the whole car.
My accident damaged 309 was valued at nil salvage by the assessor but I still managed to get £125 for it! The alloy wheels and the windscreen were sold individually, then someone, who wanted some of the remaining bits, came and towed it away and gave me £45! (on two replacement wheels obviously).
Another problem solved by the vast mine of info available on this site, and given for nothing too! What a good site this is! I had a problem solved the same way a few months ago - 2 hours posted on here produced a result to a problem that had foxed a main dealer for a week!
