I have a Golf MK.IV 2.0. The rear wiper suddenly stopped this morning. When the wiper stops the motor is still running as you can hear it, the wiper will also carry on moving if you just nudge it. Does anyone know what can cause this and is it an easy fix. Read more
As far as I know there was no speeding in the shooting of this video.
All activities were therefore safe.

Has anyone experienced ‘hunches’, premonitions, call them what you will -when driving, that have subsequently turned out to be accurate? I have a couple of interesting examples to kick off with, but am a bit reluctant to post them without encouragement as I don’t want to be branded a weirdo, as I reckon I’m fairly normal for most of the time (honest!)
If anyone would like to hear of them, please indicate.

P.S.-No I don't have a pyramid-shaped garage..

Hey l just noticed that shaftey scramera gets asterisks.
Funny
I've got a Rover 200 SDi and every now and again it doesn't turn the starter motor and I have to try for a while before it suddenly springs to life. I hear a slight click and thats it, the light don't dim. I've been told this is probably a solenoid problem or maybe faulty wiring somewhere.
Anyway the dealer is going to have a look at it in the next few days because they were messing around with the car a week or so ago looking for another problem and I know they disconnected a lot of the electrics at one point.
Anybody any idea's who does exchange starter motors if it comes to it and what kind of cost they are ? Myabe its the kind of thing places like halfords can do cheaper than a dealer !
No doubt rover will charge a fortune !!!! Read more
I would try checking the connections on the battery and the starter motor first.

The top horizontal surface of the rear colour coded bumper on my Omega estate is getting a bit scratched by the dogs jumping in and out.
Any one got any thoughts on a remedy ? e.g. sticking some black plastic protective type stuff on it?

Cut its nails.
Starting Problem - Ford Mondeo Ghia X Hatch 1996 (old body) 1.8TD
Symptoms
a) Cold starts - Engine turns over, starts but runs roughly at ~400 rpm as if only 2 cylinders are firing for a few seconds, then picks up and runs normally. However sometimes the engine cold starts perfectly ie fires on the first turn and runs normally immediately.
b) After running for about 30 - 60 secs engine cuts out. Attempted restart - engine kicks once or twice then refuses to fire at all. (After a bit of fiddlng with various things by the garage, the car did start, but nothing was done to fix the problem)
c) Warm starts - no problem.
The battery is new and ok. Factory fitted alarm / immobiliser is working normally. There are no warning indicators on the dashboard. Plug heater light works normally ie switches off after a few seconds - double heating causes the light to switch off noticeably quicker on the second iteration.
Any help here appreciated Peter

Do I assume rightly that the large relay under the battery tray of the Modeo Diesel is the Glow Plug Relay. ??? Thanks Peter
Hi,
I have a 1999 Vectra Estate, It's an LS and doesn't have a spoiler like this one:

Image lifted from this page:
www.vauxhallspares.co.uk/vectra_specials.html
I quite like them, and I was wondering...
Firstly do these spoilers help to minimise water build up on the back screen during driving (I've noticed this builds up particularly quickly especially at motorway speeds).
Secondly, does anyone know how they are attached to the tailgate?
OK, and whilst I'm at it, the black door pillars of the higher spec Vectras - is this a dark coloured spray, or are they stick-on patches (probably not as crude as this, but you know what I mean)?
Thanks in advance for an help.
Kind regards,

Hello DomF
I have been a company car driver in the past, for about a year. During that time, I never felt the inclination to personalise (out of my own pocket) something that I didn't own in the first place, sure I looked after it, washed it and waxed it etc - but never actually spent money on it. I still find it hard to come to terms with, to be honest I would have thought in this case (alloys), the original wheels would have been replaced when the car was handed back.
Oh well, just wondering.
Thanks for your response.
Kind regards,
Cyrill666
Some trifles from the colonies: we are blessed with car accessory supermarkets here carrying the like of which you don't see too much of in Halfords. Whole aisles are given over to airfresheners, and the variety of plastic thingies you never thought you needed is stupefying. As are oftentimes the labels and instructions that go with them. Most of this junk comes from neighboring Asian countries whose enthusiastic forays into English frequently produce hilarious results. My Australian friends visiting recently were paralysed with mirth on encountering the "Donga" brand, for example, the "Mobile Phone Condom" (keeps it dry, well what else did you think?), the "Violent" range of LED add-on lighting (they got the branding right that time) and so on.
Today a new range of aerosol lacquer paints, simply called "DO-IT!" is stacked in the Halloween Special display.
The creativity boys really got creative, if not Freudian, on this one: Infatuating Pink, Oozing Tangerine, Screaming Red, Bleeding Burgundy, Watery Yellow, Burning Platinum and Moonlighting Silver.
Moving on, I think my favorites are Intimidating Black, Cheating Mahogany Brown, Spanking Beige, Penetrating Blue. What else could follow that but Fatigue Green, Fading Grey, and finally Reckoning Red.
On checking this astonishing array I thought, oh yeah this one has Taiwan all over it with names like that, but no, made in Holland no less!

I have a K Reg 1.4 Astra LS that has been a dream car, up till tonight.
Had been stuck in traffic (moved about 100m) for 20 mins, and as is the norm the temperature gauge crept up to half way care of not moving. I didn't notice it go any higher, and assumed that the rad fan had kicked in to keep the car cool.
5 mins after got moving properly I thought I could smell burning in the air, wasn't sure it it was outside, or another car, but within 20m smoke appeared from under bonnet so I pulled over.
Turns out the oil was v.low, so kicked myself as normally good at checking, but at same time confused as had been topped up in the last month, and definately wasy beyond it's normal consumption. Also have no reason to suspect a leak. However, left the car for 20 mins anf topped up with Oil. Turned over and all was fine, no more smoke, temp fine, quite happy.
Except, now the brake fluid indicator (!) and battery lights are stuck on? Brake Fluid is fine, and more importantly brakes are working fine. Battery should also be ok cos lights etc were all off when I was under the bonnet, so very little excess drain. Any ideas?
I since, carefully, have driven the car home and got someone to follow me. It was a 20min drive and all seeems fine, except these lights still on. All happened as above, so somewhat confused as to the relation, and what the problem is, and how urgent (Can't get to garage before Saturday)
All help greatfully received (unless I've knacked it, in which case I'll cry)

Any mechanical noise, loss of coolant, loss of power, "pinking" noise when driving prior to smoke?

Having a good stretch at the lights today, leant back braced against the seat when a loud cracking noise from the seat back signalled another Vauxhall part failing. One of the adjustable lumbar supports collapsed. Now theres a thing i have never had a poke around in . Anyone any experience of taking a seat to bits ? Looks like all the cover will have to come off and probably never go back right as the little spring clips and those nasty razor sharp pronged fasteners snap and drop down into the footwell. Alternatively , I suppose I could get one of those things that look like a door blind with lots of little wooden knobs on , very oriental they are. Read more
HAR har ! Honestly though , I twiddled those knobs up and down a few times when I first got the car but could never really decide where the optimum setting was. Still , if an easy fix is to be had I`ll have a go . Or see if a surreptitious swap with `er indoors seat can be craftily arranged.
Thanks for the help guys ,mike.
Nut is only part that i have been able to check and seems tight.
Sounds as if peter has got it right as it does stop in the same place. Hope it is covered by the warranty! Thanks for your help.
