My local Vaux dealer parts dept is messing me about. Can anyone please confirm if rear wheel arch internal liners ( not mud flaps) are available for the Agila ? Parts dept says parts only available if fitted as standard on the vehicle.
Thank you. Pete. Read more
Before committing myself, please can I ask any fellow Back Roomers with real experience of the Volvo S60 in both T5 and 2.4T guises to share their opinion.
I have long been a fan of the T5 engine, and a recent drive on deserted Swedish roads (albeit in a V70) has confirmed what an effortless powerhouse it is.
Browsing the web however, most motoring Journos appear to prefer the 2.4T, saying that it's 200 bhp is more useable than the T5's 250 bhp in everyday driving, with less turbo lag and a better torque curve.
I well know however the difference between briefly road testing a car that is not yours, and living with one that is for years, and therefore wonder what the real world difference between these two otherwise identically suspended and powertrained (with the options I would chose) vehicles, is.
Many thanks,

Having just bought a basic 1 litre 205 for my son at a very basic price the one thing that is niggling me is that the driver's door has dropped. It still shuts ok but it isn't right. Is there a straightforward way to sort this out or do I just live with it?
By the way does the 954cc XE engine have a cambelt? and if so when should it be changed?

Brooky,
Barbaric!
But probably the only solution.
My ancient 405GRD had a door drop at 88k in 1994, which is now quite "serious" at 250K. The door still shuts and there is no wind noise. No serious problems with striker pins, etc.
Various sources say do not attempt to replace the door pins (interference fit) as they shear and then need to be drilled out. arrggh. No room to wield a drill. The only sound route would be to grind off the old hinges and weld new ones on. It makes the trolley jack option look sensibile.

P.S. Terry B if you are reading this, how come your XM autobox survived transcontinental caravan towing? Did you fit a new one after every trip?
I'm looking at buying a Merc SLK.
I've been offered a 2001 vehicle which was originally supplied as an import. It's around £3000 less than equivalent UK-supplied car. Looks a bargain.
Question is, what about warranty? UK supplied Mercs have 3-year warranty, but only manufacturer's portion of that will apply to import.
Does anyone know whether the MB warranty splits 2yrs manufacturer/1yr dealer (in which case I'd probably have a few months left) or the other way round (1yr M, 2yr D), in which case I'd be out of warranty cover from day 1?

Ah BigTJ, don't wet yourself.
I was adding comment to your statement about being a bargain. I think you may well find that a 3 year old import is worth less than a 3 year old UK supplied car, even though neither carries any remaining warranty. If you took this to mean I thought you were totally thick, then I apologise. If you are pig headed, as your 2nd post implies, then I don't.
I own a 1989 2226cc audi100 quattro and would like to solve the starting problem. When cold the engine seems to be turning over for far too long before actually starting although it will start first time if cranked over for long enough. This cant be good for the starter. I have checked the cold start valve (engine cold)which seems to be working, it delivers a strong cone shaped amount of fuel everytime. I was going to check the warm up valve but according to the manual this device is to richen the fuel mixture when the engine is running and warming up so I dont think that its anything to do with that. Its baffled me!!!
Any ideas? Read more
if you have checked the basics ie ignition systems and fuel pump, check static engine timing and check if your engine has a firing point sensor (crankshaft sensor)
In-Laws are visiting this weekend (non 'car' people) driving Discovery Dti on an 'S' plate. Fuel filter warning light is on, and in that wonderfully vague way of hers, sister-in-law says " oh, it's been like that for a while". They're due to return to London tomorrow (200 miles) what do people think : call the AA now?

The fuel filter on the Td5 Disco is up under the rear driver's side wheelarch.
Drain procedure:
1. Unplug the multiplug from the base of the filter
2. Unscrew the sedimenter (the little pot sticking out of the bottom of the filter) until water starts to flow out of the drain
3. When diesel starts flowing out, tighten the sedimenter back up again
4. Plug the multiplug back in
Easy!
Hi,
The rubber around the sunroof glass on my Rover has split along the seam where it was joined together originally. There is now a gap of about 1cm where the rubber has pulled apart.
I've tried pulling both ends of the rubber together but it won't budge. In the short term I've cut a piece of foam to shap to cover the hole but this won't last long term.
Any idea's ? Who can fix it ? Work arounds ?
Cheers

The sunroof glass and rubber from the dealer is £400 which is a complete joke !
As for pulling the existing rubber tight, I tried that and it didn't budge at all !
Whats this rubber cement then ?

David,
Agreed 'Lifestyle route' sums it up perfectly.
The 2 motorcycle articles have been a disaster. I do not want to read about the views of a girl on motorcyling fashion etc. Let us have some details on bikes. Costs, performance, handling rivals etc.
Same for cars.

Surely the Focus heater picks up it's air from the normal Ford place ie. under the wipers;it's the air cleaner intake under the wing. Read more

Multi-valve engines may have a lot of advantages, but low-speed torque isn't one of them. Give me a "two valves per cylinder" engine any day. Lots of low-speed torque and flexibility. Presumably the reason that 0-60mph times have increased over the last few years is due to the proliferation of multi-valve engines. What I need is good acceleration, not an unusably high top speed. Oh for the good old days ! Read more
Well Honda must have done alot of research on this subject, as the engine in the new Jazz is an 8 Valve chaincam engine! Will other manufacturers follow suit?
Thank you very much Crombster.
This is the independent confirmation that I have been seeking. I now also know Vaux's term to describe the item ( Wheelhouse cover) which could help in any further contact with Vaux parts depts.
Your assistance much appreciated.
Thanks Pete.
