You should know by now that it's only sexist if it's said by men about women. Women are genetically incapable of being sexist [TIC] ;-)

"The Editor,
Daily Telegraph

Sir,

"Why are men OBSESSED with cars?" - Germaine Greer in Motoring Telegraph this date.

As I polished Toad (Supra MK IV, a modern classic, confined to garage now that ridiculous over-salting of roads has commenced, presumably further to gratify the anti-car cranks by further harm to our machines and motoring) this afternoon, I asked myself "Why is Germaine Greer obsessed with narking at men?".

Jealousy?

I remain,

Yours faithfully,....."

HJ!

I know that did not answer the question; I reserve judgement until I've seen a few more issues, in "ordinary" weeks.

SUPERB!
I just got on the Telegraph site, and saw the new look!
(I'd like a better pic, though, HJ!)
More grist to your mill - and hopefully the Backroom will see more visitors now!

HJ,
Difficult to judge this week with the motor show section.

Personally I like to see road tests/impressions and factual details about cars & bikes. I don't much care for the articles loosely connected to motoring. By that I mean those contributions by Germaine Greer, Max Davidson, Neil Lyndon & Bryony Gordon.

So I will reserve judgement.

P.S.
Glad to see you still have 2 pages.

I must admit that as soon as I saw the front page article by Germaine Greer, I thought "oh no, like a bad rash, she's getting everywhere", especially in the Telegraph.

But, like others, on the whole, it wasn't too bad in my opinion. I was really worried that it would go the way of the computer "Connected" section.

But, let's see what it's like when the Motorshow is out of the way.

I enjoyed the Stephen Bayley article - but somehow I knew as soon as I heard he would be given a column, that he would devote the first one to oddly shaped Renaults.... Hope he doesn't run out of material too soon.

I share HJ's feelings of being pleased and relieved at the new format, still as readable as ever. Pity Paul Ripley has gone though, I always found his column informative.

Say's a lot about our general attitude to road safety in this country. Maureen Rees is a media star whose mug pops up on TV and in the press whenever a motoring "Expert" is required, PR is virtually unknown.

Famous for being usless - wish I'd thought of it first - there's so much I'm no good at.

Has it changed? Still looked the same to me on Saturday morning after the kids had edited it with jam and Weetabix!

HJ column still the best section and I don't really care what other women think about my feelings towards cars, as long as our lass let's me play with mine when I want I'm happy - the car, simmer down!~) Bit of a shame about old Paul Ripley, always enjoyed his articles especially when he first started with the photographs which were from around my neck of the woods.

I promise to pay more attention next week!

Just read Greer's article on the interweb thingy. What the fu!!? That was a one-off wasn't it?

A little difficult to pass judgement on just one issue, but I found less in it of interest and it did not take me so long to read.

Unfortunately Telegraph Motoring seems to be going down the froth and little substance lifestyle route affecting so much newspaper writing. With one obvious exception there really was little of anything other than entertainment value in Saturday's edition. Perhaps someone has surveyed the readership and decided that's what the majority want. The danger is we shall now start to see articles on what Big Brother contestants drive or more likely, would like to drive if only they could pass the driving test.

David,
Agreed 'Lifestyle route' sums it up perfectly.

The 2 motorcycle articles have been a disaster. I do not want to read about the views of a girl on motorcyling fashion etc. Let us have some details on bikes. Costs, performance, handling rivals etc.

Same for cars.
