does this mean that my clutch is on the way out Read more

Mike Harvey

Phil, most likely causes are a stiff or partially seized cable (If it is cable operated), or the diapragm spring weak/ distorted. 1st is a new cable, 2nd a new clutch. Rarely, a release bearing can get stiff on its shaft or mechanism, which again needs the box out unless you have a FWD oldish Vauxhall.
As Johnathan says, what car is it?

I get a clunking sound when I turn right. You would
think cv joint. I have now replaced the driveshaft
three times. The clunking disappears for a day or so.
I have also replaced RH wheel bearing, RH track
control arm (bottom joint) front struts and mountings.
The car has never been in an accident - the front end
is not bent or deformed - it does not excessively wear
tyres. Can anybody tell me why my car appears to be
destroying CV joints rapidly. Or is it another
problem?... Read more

Sounds like my 205. Badly repaired accident damage under previous ownership, hopefully better news in your case.

Beautiful! - but who else feels that it will be spoiled by having to fit an off-centre front number plate?

Have you noticed that Morpheus refuse to include location of truvelos and regular manned sites in their database.

Has anybody got any remedy for the removal of light scratching on my windscreen caused by dirt caught under the wiper blade.
Are there any products ie polishes etc available? Read more

Hmm... from my brief search I found the following links:

www.sisweb.com/ms/sis/micromes.htm

also:

www.fp.rdg.ac.uk/wkc1/DIY/repairs/msg00013.html

It doesn't seem to be recommended for glass per se, but it might be worth a try

I've always found the 12000 grade to work well on hardened debris (insects in the summer) on the windscreen

hope this helps

I'm seriously getting peeved with the Volvo S80.

Is it because I've driven one and it was rubbish? Well I have and it was OK but its not that reason no.

Is it because I've been cut up/held up or otherwise knocked off my stride by one, errrrm no.

Its because of that flaming pop up advert that appears every b****y where. You know the one with the dipstick that appears in the top left hand corner of the screen and as you move mouse cursor across ready to zap it changes in size so you click and miss and click and miss and click and miss. My boss has a S80 T5 - the power steering failed when he was in the fast lane on the motorway - car veered to the left. All fixed under warranty but a scary moment for him.

Great column in today's Sunday Times! Tried to post a link here in case you don't have the paper, but you need to register to read the paper online now.

Still, worth a look if you enjoy JC's humour.

I have a 1993 16v micra that cuts out intermiterly. I can drive perfect all day and then all of a sudden as you change gear and then hit the gas it begins to shudder and eventually die and stall. It won?t restart for about 5-10 mins, and then as if by magic it will restart and I?m of again. I have read post regarding cold starts but my problem can occur at any time even when the engine is fully warm. The self-test on the ECU says every thing is fine any ideas? Read more

I had similar problem with a 87 Cavalier and a 83 SAAB. In both cases it was the distributor cap.

Perhaps you saw that article at the bottom of page one of yesterday's Saturday Telegraph entitled "Blunkett's double defeat on police and asylum"?

In the article, it says "It [the Court of Appeal] agreed with an earlier High Court ruling that the penalty was in breach of human rights because individual circumstances were not taken into account". It relates to fixed fines of £2000 for hauliers with asylum seekers hiding in their lorries, but surely, therefore, Gatsos are illegal because they take no account of the circumstances of the "offence". "IMHO it would be better if limits were set realistically, even if that means that they change more frequently along a road."

Brian I know what you mean, however I'm not sure this is the answer. If you are ever up in the Derbyshire area try driving along the A6 from Derby to Belper. This is exactly what they have done and the limit is up and down more than a ****'s drawers in some parts.

It means that you have to concentrate very very hard as to what the limit is at any point in time, and I'm not sure it is an improvement in reality.
