Glad to see there is no Dieselphobia on this site.
I can recommend Diesel Car magazine for anybody interested in finding out more about the subject. Read more
If any of you are listening to the radio today, switch over to LBC and you'll find me there from 2.00pm to 3.00pm. Gosh, is that the time? Gotta go.

Are there any physical conditions, other than blindness and simple inability to handle the controls, that preclude a person,s roight to drive?
For example, I have met drivers who are blind in one eye, another profoundly deaf, others with diabetes and several with angina.
All of these either affect the ability to drive or constitute a risk, however small, to driving ability.
I suppose that a common cold or the effects of a row with the wife could equally adversely affect driving.
Does anyone know what the Law says about this? Read more
Good point. Why do we always get one in that job? Perhaps because they want it most, to "get" us?
Yes its me, and yes thanks Honest John for pointing me in the direction of your back room. Right now to answer some criticisms regarding my review of the new Vectra. First off, I?ve never seen the famous Clarkson piece, and second, I would gather that any negative review of the same car would result in ?Being a copy-cat?, well I?m sorry but the new Vectra is dull and I?m hardly gonna have a beaming smile on my face driving a car that doesn?t excite me, so if this at-all similar to the piece Clarkson did, I?m sorry. However I do take your criticism?s on board and if you don?t like anything on the show then tell me, I cant always promise that I?ll have time to respond to any threads but I?ll do my best. Thanks for watching the show and for those of you that continually slag it off then here?s a simple cure. Don?t watch it !.

Mike,
keep up the good work, it's a good prog, but, err it could be improved a bit. It's nice to know that there are some certainties in life, like the Vectra being c**p, a bit like death and taxes really. I think that the DT review was valid but we should expect more. How can they get away with something that ugly for a start ? The Mondeo looks good (and the Laguna and the Passat and...) but that thing's just plug ugly.
BUT.... why didn't we see the interior ? A shot of the dashboard, how much room is there in the back, how bigs the boot, what's the fuel consumption and so on ? You're influencing me on whether I buy one of these things or not (well not one of THESE, but you get my drift) so I want a bit more than to be told it's rubbish and it has nasty plastics.
See you next, err, well the video knows when.
Regards,
John
Anyone out there live with a 3 Series Convertible as their main family car? Seems to me most are 2nd cars.
I'll be choosing my new company car soon and the lease rates on the 320i Convertible seem good value. However, my BMW dealer tried to talk me out of it saying that there wouldn't be enough room for 4 (kids will be 13 and 11 when it goes back) and our luggage. Can't seem to find a dealer with one in stock for a closer examination.
Just thought it was worth checking with you lot. For the record my wife has a Fiesta, so thats no good for longer trips. Read more
Simon,
Does this mean they want to sell it ? I would be VERY interested indeed
Please advise !!!
Late last year Hella announced a "Daytime running lights" kit. My local dealer can't get hold of any., any ideas please. Read more
Why not run around day after day with your fog lights always on, dazzling everyone like the BMW's do?
For Alwyn and other junk science sceptics and those who would stand up to the environmentalist bullies, let me commend Matt Ridley's eponymous article in today's Spectator.

There was a classic example near me:
A nearly four lane wide road coming in through the outer suburbs narrowed to one and a half lane's width each way, then, just before it narrowed to one tight lane each way, it suddenly bulged out for for a short way.
At that point there was a bus stop, and a pedestrian crossing.
And guess which was in the wide bit, and which where it went down to one narrow lane each way: you guessed it.
And then, no doubt at great expense, they narrowed the wide bit, so that pedestrians wouldn't have so far to walk when using the crossing!
I'm glad to see that people are beginning to explore the facility to include clickable links in their posts. Can I ask people to be responsible about what they link The Back Room to (ie no pics of grandma at Mablethorpe with her skirt tucked up, please!)? And can I also ask (since I won't be checking each link myself) that if anyone is offended by the content of a link that they bring it to my notice discreetly?
Thanks

Thanks for this, Sid. I don't have any plans for pics at the moment (and the new software is more or less completed now) but it's certainly something to bear in mind. Perhaps in the meantime I might put a link to Lee in the preamble to the new version, if he's willing.
I'm looking for something that's fun to drive, has good performance, can seat four, is robust, will last a good few years, oh and is at the very most 8k - ideally less! Ideas so far: BMW 325.......and urr......help for more!

matt, are you saying that the honda civic vtec 16-valve, is not a good car, because its will go on for years, its robust, its under £8K, its sporty, and the insurance is not that bad.
also matt, at least i gave him some advice, unlike what you have said.
Photo on page 16 of today's Telegraph, of a British Army soldier in Afghanistan. With all the problems that country still has to sort out, what do you think our man in Kabul is doing? Using a radar gun to enforce the speed limit....
I had a suspicion that the British Army was becoming politicised - this confirms it. Presumably HMG takes the view that while the fight against global terrorism is important, the campaign against speeding is more so. Read more
