Honest John

Sorry for starting a new thread when there is already one on Thursday's Driven, but I've got some news.

First off, I had a chat with Mike Brewer and he was very interested to know his show gets discussed in The Backroom. So I gave him a card and told him to look it up.

He told me that the truth about Fifth Gear is that Adrian, Vicky and Tiff all upped and left the Beeb to join Quentin on Channel 5. I spoke to Adrian and his story is that the new Channel 5 show starts in early April, probably on Monday nights, so that's something to look forward to and to chat about here.

It also seems that the rumours about JC are true. The BPC regrets losing its motor show and has realised is has to revive Top Gear, with JC if possible.

Agree entirely about the print. Same applies to Clive James, but I guess TV is more glamourous and pays better.

.. as Martyn says I prefer the cheque book. As for progress - it's getting there. I don't think we've done too bad considering it's a complete rewrite of phorum, but then we use templates + code which makes things much much easier IMHO.
So the only similarity to phorum is some of the look and that's about it.

There are also quite a few other changes to the rest of the site which are not insignificant even if it will look more or less the same. So we have not been idle bunnies.

Apparantly, the heater resistor is a common reason for a car heater to only work on max level. I am about to change the resistor in my VW and found this helpful little guide (for Fiat cars). Take it at face vaule because these instructions do not apply to all vehicles and are very general, but if you have the above symtoms then you may have a failed heater resistor! If in doubt always seek professional advice!

Interesting bit of info from Car magazine and their long-term Peugeot 307. It seems that on the Dunlop Sport 2000 tyre, the inside in textured so that patches can't be succesfully glued in place. Nett result - new tyre.

Talk about a cunning plan... (also, they were charger 80p + VAT to have the old one taken away).

Andy,
Most tyres are textured on the inside, which is removed using an abrasive golf ball type tool or other abrasive material prior to cold vulcanising.

Delete this thread. Big Vern's windscreen 1 and 2 posts have made the window look extremely unusual. I wanted to re-enact this here, but as usual i failed miserably

Here follows an example, let us hope I get it right....

The issue is, of course, if I write it exactly as it should be written, then it will get translated into a link and you won't be able to see the code line. So with some substitution;

(open angle bracket) a href="web address" target="_new">display text
angle brackets are these < & >.

Lines of code are like math sums. If you open a bracket or inverted comma, then you need to close it. Both are used to delimit single arguments which may be sub-divided into composite instructions.

If you like, it is the difference as follows;

6 = "2*3" = "(4-1)*2"

This logic needs to be followed. So it follows like this..

< instruction is starting and will continue until you reach >

href is the reference you need, so I open quotes, enter a text reference of the web address and then close quotes. It should interpret everything in between the quotes as a single instruction to be interpreted for href.

target is a qualifier, in this case relevant as to whether you use this window or a new IE window, here I would like to use a new window, hence target = "_new", again I quote it so that target is interpreted as _new.

I will now close that argument and give you the text to use, hence > and TEXT,
but now I want you to make this active so I will open < give you an argument - /a and then close >.

I know that I haven't got that exactly right, but this is coming from an old and fading memory, and it should be close enough.

As someone says, easiest to cut and past the line beginning with - a href, and then put a < & > at the beginning and end, insert your web address and chosen text and robert will most likely be your mother's brother.

Hope this helps, because I am not writing it again.

Also, if this software has interpreted my instructions I am going to mail MArtyn, ask him to remove it and never try to explain this again. Read more

Thanks Mark, if the shot had been full length you would have seen the matching plus-six britches, knee socks and the traditional short boots... the jeep has a (factory approved) Decoy Box that replaces and extends the tailgate area to hold 60 or so old fashoned wood decoys + 2 pair of either green wellingtons or hip boots depending on the planed hunting area and has been restored to its orignal hunting configuration for 2 gents with spaces for 2 pairs of guns in 2 paded case holders over the rear wheel arches, 2 labrador restraints in the rear seat and ammo storage under it... the Norfork Outfit is the one I wear for hunting
