After my company refused to let me have a Golf GT TDI PD I am sticking with the cash.

I was thinking of something a bit different and having searched the web, found that Honda S2000s can be bought for £21,000 new, as an Import as opposed to £26,000 from a UK Honda Dealer.

I have read HJs FAQ and quide to buying imports. Can anyone expand further?

What are resale values like, warranties, insurance and the like?

Are the cars offered as full UK spec truly this, or are there minor differences?

All help gratefully received, Read more

Take your point, Andrew, but I have a new service book supplied by Toyota as the original was in French - it has their stamp on the front and will be stamped up by them during future services.

I have sent a picture of the electric 2CV I am soon to be using to Lee to be displayed on the pics site.

This car is very weird to drive - no clutch, just whack it into gear, accelerates silently, the only noise at the 60mph max speed is the wind noise & tyre roar.

Yes please, would be most interested to gain some idea of what such a conversion might cost. Thank you.

Anyone remember the poor maiden in distress over the ceased engine in her MX5? There was much debate over liabilty & the changing of oil etc. but after prolonged negotions with Mazda I am VERY pleased to tell you all that they have agreed to replace the engine free of charge. Viva la consumer! Many thanks to all those who offered support, advice & G&Ts.

Dear Flat in Fifth. Many thanks for this. Of course you haven't done wrong. You've done right. You just didn't explain yourself very well and Bruce never told me you had referred him to the site. I thought he'd picked it up via a search engine. So thanks, Flat, once again for spreading the word to the other side of the world. And sorry if I offended you in any way. You didn't deserve it.

(To find out what the new W211 AMG 500E does flat in fifth, check out the latest website road-test.)

The other side of this is that Gill has done very well for heself and should be congratulated. So should Mazda. In the circumstances, I really didn't think she had a case. But she has won through, so good for her.

That should give the orange haired tree dwellers something to think about. Why do they think people buy cars, so they can leave them in the drive and queue in the rain for a bus? Get real!

I've just read with interest last week's thread on potholes. I was unfortunate enough to hit a crater on the A80 last night resulting in one badly bent alloy. Best advice from my local garage is to replace the tyre as well, although not obviously damaged. The laugh so far is that Fiat don't appear to haveany replacement alloys in the country (Seicento Sporting), with best quoted delivery so far of 15th March, which means I'll be forced to claim my insurance to keep mobile.
Does anybody know if I can reasonably expect my insurers to pursue a claim against the Agency "responsible" for the road (AMEY apparently.... and I thought they made soy sauce), thus preserving my mediocre no claims, or is that down to me?

Just in the process of claiming £85 off the local Conty Borough for a new tyre and wheel alignment check.

I hit a monster pothole at 40mph in the dark & pouring rain. The result was an immediate deflation, the alloy (fortunately) stayed intact.

Don't forget to include the cost of a 4-wheel alignment and suspension check in your claims.

For info, the council have immediately passed on the claim to its insurers.

A quick check with our local accident repair centre showed that several others had hit the same hole last w/e, resulting in some severe damage to vehicles.

How much does the British motorist pay in tax to this grasping government each year???

Hi everyone,

This may have got lost deep in a thread over the weekend, so for anyone who missed it, I'm offering to put any hj related images you'd like onto a website I've set up for the purpose.

You can send me the images to lee@southamerica.freeserve.co.uk mail link, along with any text you'd like to accompany it. I'll send you the link by return so that you can reference it here or send to your friends.

There's a couple of images up there already, the most recent being
David W's DS & BMW 1600 Coupe.

Just as a final note, could anyone who's thinking of sending me an image please note Martyn's post here giving some guidelines for content.

I'll not post about this again, but will place a link after my name in subsequent posts that will allow you to email me with your photos.

Thanks,
Lee

Ask David W about my "I'm the ugly one" photo.

Got to log off and phone home.

Lee,

I'll dig out my Veedub photos and see if I can find one where I don't look too hideous.
Going to be a late night.

Can anyone comment on the fuel consumption of the Peugeot 307 HDI (90).
I've done 6000 miles in mine and can't get above 45mpg. I do mainly A road/
motorway journeys outside of the rush hours, so I'm in 5th gear most of the time. Its just had its first service and the dealer couldn't offer any explanation other than to contact Peugeot if it didn't get any better.

Official fuel consumption figures are:
Urban Drive Cycle MPG 40.9
Extra Urban Drive Cycle MPG 65.7
Combined Drive Cycle MPG 54.3 Read more

I drivea 406 estate with this engine and currently do 500 - 1000 miles per week for business purposes, mainly motorways and a few cross country thrashes, the average MPG I have been getting is between 38 and 44.

I have had it 11 months and covered 35 000 miles

I guess it would improve slightly if I kept the cruising speed down a bit. However I doubt whether you would ever get the MPG over 50 - the engine certainly feels more muscular now it has a few miles under it, but in reality it struggles with a car this heavy ( 1400kg ) Your 307 is probably 200 KG lighter

Next time, providing I don't go for a VW Passat, I will go for the 2.2 HDI Fap engine, this is vastly superior at 136 BHP and attracts the same BIK tax.
