Has anyone experienced the following fault on current Golfs? Trip computer display cuts out frequently and for long periods. This started at 21,000 miles, and 12 months old. Was very occasional at first, but now ( 6 weeks later) is frequently missing. Vehicle is 115 PS Diesel, 5 door. Read more
Hi All,
I bought a new golf gti 1.8t last summer and i think the ride of the car isn't as good as i thought it would be, my dealer said the can lower the suspension but will the ride be more harder?...and how much lower is it acceptable when u go over a speed bump without scraping the bottom of the car?....will bigger wheels benefit the handling of the car?
cheers

And our glorious Chancellor wants us to drive smaller cars.
Yes we have discussed it before but this for those who may have missed it. Why do we put up with politicians whose policies could kill us?
Folks discuss the new CO2 emissions rules but why do so few question the lack of science behind it? Read more
What do you think of the new Polo, and what is the best engine to have if I travel approx 250 miles per week going to work. Is it going to be a good long-term purchase.
Thanks. Read more
The Skoda Fabia TDI comfort is a great little car. Mine has aircon, PAS, Leccy windows, refrigerated(sic) compartments,Traction control, etc etc etc. Is now run in & returning just a touch over 5.0 litres per 100 km.
My next door neighbour has bought a right lemon. Everything on her voyager is breaking down, including the rear wiper. The dealer said that there is no fuse for the rear wiper and that to get it going again is quite a big job. Is this true as I think that the bill she is going to be facing wil be a couple of hundred. Get somebody competent to look at the car and maybe sort the probs.
A while ago we talked about the annoyance of clearing out the temp internet files and cookies only to find the next visit here showed everything as "new" making it the very devil to catch up.
Mark (Brazil) kindly advised a way to note down a number from within the Phorum cookie and change it back to that after the cache clear.
Just found an even easier way.
Go to the cookies file and drag out the Phorum cookie to the desktop. After clearing files drag it back into the otherwise empty cookie folder and you will be at the place you left off.
Now a question related to site use.
With one phone line, and if one is to read "all the posts" thereby staying on all day others may want to phone you. I understand it is possible to get a device that will display the number of a potential caller who is recieving the engaged signal so you can decide if the call is important enough to interupt the HJ session.

David,
To be accurate I said "using" the site not "having posted here".
However you are correct about an ID change and no longer an Email address.

Anyone see the diesel running on Vegetable oil on last nights TV show?
It was great! The only modification required was to route the fuel line near some heat (provided by the cooling hoses) to thin the veggie oil a bit.

Yesterday I started my wife's Astra 1.4 and backed it out of the garage.Stopped the engine and washed the car. I then started it and put it back in the garage and stopped the engine. I remember reading on the site some time back that is a no no and can cause starting problems.
My wife told me this evening that the car did not start and she had to get a lift for the kids to school and her to work. I went to the car and sure enough it would not start untill I floored the accelerator.
What is the cause of this. I will not do it again!
Cheers
Peter
PS I only admitted it might be my fault when she said it was getting old (P reg) and perhaps should be got rid of! Read more

I could go on, and on.............
But I won't.
Evenin all,
Isn't it funny how when you see something on TV about which you really do know a fair bit (Oh alright, a lot!!) you realise who much horrendous misinformation we swallow on subjects about which we know not so much.
They made a very nice job of the Bristol restoration - but in two weeks ? PLEEEASE! And the final straw was the engine which had not run for years, transformed into a shiny concours winner in the last 6 hour "all nighter".
Wish we all had that golden touch !

The trip computer on my old 1989 GTI shed reads a constant 99.9mpg - wishful thinking!
