If anyone has had any personal experience with a reputable continental importer who can do Peugeots, and can recomend them, I would appreciate any help.
A friend is about to pay full UK price on a new 206, and I thought I would give her the benefit of your opinions. Read more

If your friend has driven a 206 for a long distance and is happy with the driving position, fine, (s)he must be a very different shape from me. If not make sure they do before they buy.

OK, this will get the Fiat fans going!

I wonder how long the new Fiat Thingy's electrics would last if people really treated them like they do in the TV advert (in the UK) for it?!

If I was a punter in the market for a new car, I don't think the ad would convince me. But then again, maybe I'm old fashioned. Read more

If you ever attend a car auction and walk thru the fleet halls you will soon realise the only cars that DONT have a Eurobox look are Fiat/Alfa's.
While i would agree the build quality and customer service are lacklustre the overall experience of owning a Alfa Romeo is excellent. As for Fiat their only great models have been the Coupe and Punto.
I'm sure HJ's right about the Stilo ,destined for rental fleets.

Landrover Lovers read on - others please ignore.

Motoring along in 95 Disco for no apparent reason hazard flashers come on of their own accord. Stop, switch off, switch on and they reset. This is followed for awhile with central locking system not functioning then clearing.

Handbook puts this down to inertia switch being activated and which also affects central locking as it does. Haynes mentions intended to cut off supply to fuel pump. Could understand this occurring from an severe impact.

New Interia switch for Indicator CPU I understand costs in excess of £100.

Help1. Cannot find the switch behind the washer bottle as stated by Haynes, neither can I spot it to the left of the steering wheel amongst spagetti junction wiring. So where is it? (Please bear in mind I am a three fingered double thumbed type of DIY'er that nothing goes right for.)

Help 2. Is there a simple solution to this? Fault not on every journey just now and again. Surely switch should not activate over normal road undulations?

Thanks in anticipation

Audi 80s and Coupes are notorious for leaks around the tail lights. The sealing material shrinks and cracks with age, and the water channels around the boot lid / tailgate direct rainwater straight onto the top of the light units, from where it flows into the boot. I don't know whether this applies to Avants as well, but if your car steams up inside every time the sun shines, and there are mushrooms growing in the boot carpet, it might be worth investigating. I did a 'temporary' bodge job three months ago with glazing putty, and my mushrooms have now died.

These are a little cheap, is there nothing just over your £1000 budget on which you can make an offer.

These figures are looking like cars which should be humanely put down.

Your budget suggests that you could look at cars twice this price.

Await more input from the knowledgeable crowd.

I'll second that about Broker4cars as my father bought a Skoda Fabia last month from them - stress free in the extreme and very good customer service from the Skoda dealer also.

(also no connection with the business)

David,

I'd go with that. Contis are mostly reviewed/tested as above average in every respect, they might not make the cutting edge spot but well worth keeping to if you are happy.

It is gutting to pay out £200 - £300 for replacement tyres on a larger car to find there is some aspect of their performance you don't like. The wait to wear them out in private use might be longer than you would keep the car.

I just called VW customer services in Milton keynes expecting to have a civil conversation. Unfortunatley the person I spoke to wanted to tell me forceably "that is the way we do it- and I am telling you". She told me that VW was not interested in how its competitors did things - they are VW.
I am left stunned; have I been unlucky or anyone else had the same experience? Read more

I have never understood the reverence with which some hold VAG products.
My experience has been of very expensive repairs, and quite a few of them, difficulty with parts supply and, yes, in my limited experience a very arrogant dealership network.

I seem to recall JD Power had some pretty harsh things to say about VW a couple of years ago.

For my money I feel Ford now make a better product than VW, when considering all factors and with generally sensible costs.

Tomo - Fully agree, assuming, firstly, that one can find a *good* Glaswegian and, secondly, that we are talking about arrivals *from* Glasgow! Curiously enough, I have a foot in both camps, with Father from Glasgow and Mother from Edinburgh. For your amusement, my Father used to say the train journey from Glasgow was the longest 45 miles in the universe and, in rare moments of stress, that he wished that he'd got off at Falkirk! Conversely, my Mother in order to hold her head high in the salons of the New Town, used to say that her husband came from the western suburbs of Edinburgh ....

Boost - Yes you did, and yes "Ah ken whit ye mean ..." but a nice try all the same. Thankfully for all concerned, I have never exposed myself in Craigmillar (or anywhere else for that matter)!

Regards to both, and I'll spare you the story about the drunk in the "Ladies Only" compartment on the last train from Waverley to Queen Street.

FIF - Perhaps it's a good job "Lady Lewisham" doesn't work for the senior local government officer guy in Nottingham (?) who is fining all his staff for English errors - even though *he* must owe a bit for saying "affect" is a verb and "effect" is a noun - time he "effected" some changes!
