Arrgh!

Does anyone know what those cameras are for on the M3 southbound at Winchester?

One set just before the junction, one set on the junction (pointing back down the slip road) and one set approx. 200m after the junction.

I was going a little fast - a momentary lack of concentration (does this sound familiar?).

I wrote about the starting problems with this car a couple of months ago and it seems that other back-roomers have come across the problem before. The other day, it did the same thing - cutting out about 3ooyds down the road after allowing the revs to drop whilst negotiating a left turn out of a junction. It then refused to start whilst sitting in a busy road.

My wife was very pleased with herself when I saw her this evening for having got the car going again by engaging 1st gear and using the starter motor to move the irritating beast. After the third go with the starter motor in this way - it gave in gracefully and started. She then continued on her way.

Well, it worked - but how much of this can a Fiesta stand! For that matter, how much more of this Fiesta can I stand!

My mrs has the same problem each year, same week. She does b*gger all miles over a year, and the oil filler cap, which has a mesh filter, and the thin pipe from it to the air filter get bunged up with emulsified oil thus not allowing the engine to breathe properly. Quick clean with paraffin and off it goes again.

Well, more of a van really.

I've been shifting my wordly goods around the country this weekend in a hired new Transit LWB Luton with tail-lift.

Thought I'd post to see what everyone else thinks to the new Transits. This thing had remote locking, alarm and lots of stuff you'd expect only find on the car. The whole thing seems well thought out, I kept finding myself thinking "that's clever" when discovering another new feature.

Moreover, I drove it about 450 miles in two days and it was both quick and easy to drive. Didn't feel at all tired, and in fact found the miles just flew by.

Very impressive and a huge improvement over the previous Transits I've driven. Wonder if the Ford cars have improved since the H reg Fiesta I drove last?!

The new Transit is a brilliant van. A friend of mine has just bought one - just a basic box type.

Dare I say it but, for a Ford, it's civilised. I also run a van (privately) and my only real gripe is that they are relatively expensive. You can by the Berlingo Multispace (estate, I suppose) for about the same as the 800Kg van with VAT. Why? Probably because most van buyers get their VAT refunded and aren't bothered.

As part of looking after your own car you follow the servicing schedule & change the cambelt et al. However is there anything you can do to avoid cylinder head failure ?? Or is it inevitable on a high mileage car ?

Any advice welcome

I'd back this up a forth time. Change the coolant every 2 years, to renew the corrosion inhibitors.

I've just bought a new pre-registered Mazda 626 from Motorpoint only to find out that my insurer for the last 30+ years won't look at it. Neither will AA.com.

Can anyone recommend a broker or insurer please?

Colin's points are very true, but it does seem that a good few insurers just will not take on imports of any description, no matter what you say to them - and I've tried a few.

John Davis mentioned earlier that 'Norwich Union through Swinton' was good for him. You will have seen that I, myself, suggested N/U as a good bet, but when I went to Swinton a year ago, they said 'no imports whatsoever with us'.
Which further proves the need to ring round youself till you get what you want.

Does anybody know where the temperature sensor is.

EQDSO is driving one at the moment, and it seems that despite the fact that it is supposed to measure outside temperature, the displayed temperature decreases after the aircon has been running for a while.

I've had a look about, but I can't find anything. Read more

Has any body published guide prices model range for the new fiesta due out shortly?

Iam trying to dissuade my 81 yr old father from trading in his 5 yr old fiesta for a run out model. He is attracted by current incentives (note it is total cash cheaper to take finance at 3.4% with £1000 cash back than 0% finance offer). The cars on offer have all the extras that he doesnt want or need! Alloys to damage, A/C to confuse so wont use (hence mtce liability), radio that he wont understand, electric widows to fail....... The hassle of trade sales or other supermarket site etc is just to great for him, local main dealer is friendly service in a small town (they can afford to be!)

My view is that if and when his driving gets to the point where he gives up (poss in 3?yrs, but I might have said that 5 yrs ago!) the trade in or sale value of the newer model will more than make up for the additional cash outlay. Surely Ford have got to make a base model with the 1.4 engine.

Dont suggest the Ford Web site, words fail me or will get me banned. They need to look at what the opposition does for user friendly fast usable information. Read more

Call me cynical.
Why have a sunroof when you don't get any sun?
But be caeful of vandals - they just love testing their stanleys on the stuff.
Insurance can be a problem as well.

The mole grip thread reminded me of the pain of clamping the palm of my in them a time or two. They must be number one in the list of the most painful essentials in the toolkit. Number two has to be the hammer when you missed the chisel end for the second time.
Ouch.
