The tachometer on my Peugeot 306 1.9 Turbo diesel works only intermittently, with no apparent reason for the failure. The sensor has been taken off and cleaned and the connection has been cleaned, to no avail. Any suggestions, please,in layman's terms? Read more

And I have to go on car launches (or should that be "lunches"?) with the kind of guys who write this stuff for real.

once again i am totally staggered by the total and utter waste of public money i have seen today, in that in a relatively short trip i have seen countless misguided police manning speed traps
what about the violent crime
what about the break ins ?
what about the car theft rings
what about the real dangerous driving (such as rear ending someone on the motorway)
what about teaching some of the cyclists how to ride a bike correctly, and get them to use lights in the dark
the road safety indistry in this country (it is an industry cos so many people are on its payroll) really is letting the country down badly Read more
why chase a burglar that might attack you, when you can sit in a car pointing a speed gun at someone who isnt going to know that they have been got, until a few weeks later.
The US government has recently taken a step which is both under reported but hugely significant on a 20 year horizon.
The preceding Federal programme to deliver ever more efficient petrol driven cars has been aborted, leaving the hybrid vehicle to plug the gap.
As I understand it, it ropes in the major US makers to develop the hydrogen economy in transport. What this may mean is that when the end of the petroleum economy inevitably comes, Europe and elsewhere will find themselves complying with the US technology and standards touching on propulsion and hydrogen storage and distribution.
Not necessarily a bad thing, you're using Windows aren't you?
However, unless the Europeans get their act together and see this one coming they're going to be in a permanently subordinate role.

Well, yes,we all know that, and because I find no particular reason for recognising these potty little autocracies as sovereign statesI cannot, for the life of me,understand why we pay them for it.All it does is destabilise the region even more.
On Friday a Lorry driver(Paul Couldridge) was sentenced to 2 terms of 8 years(to run concurrently) for causing Death by dangerous driving. He fell asleep, crossed the central reservation, and killed a young couple.
It is difficult not to compare this case with Gary Hart(who I see is to appeal). PC ignored a medical problem causing him to fall asleep on previous occasions and showed no remorse. On the other hand he had slept for four and a half hours. GH had no sleep and lied about it.
Had there been no injuries in either incident I doubt if either would have received a custodial sentence, they might have even got away without a charge. Obviously neither intended to fall asleep, but the former killed 2 and the latter 10. So is it reasonable to deduce that the custodial sentence was related to the deaths caused? If so GH was lucky to only get 5 years and could get more if his appeal fails.
There has been no outcry about the sentence on PC and IMHO there shouldn?t be. However I wonder if that is because most of us don?t identify with lorry drivers.
Also yesterday a 17 year old admitted 2 charges of Death by dangerous driving and escaped a custodial sentence. But he didn't fall asleep! Read more
I don't know if Judges have guidance on whether the outcome of the offence determines the sentence.
For instance a burglar breaks into a house, assaults occupants and steals:
(A) nothing (B) £1000 (C) £50,000.
Given all other circumstances are the same would he get the same sentence for each crime?

Chap from UK driving in France was made to run his wheel over a £400 Geodesy because the French bobbies do not like speed camera warning devices.

Thanks to devolution our dear Scottish Executive has apparently been able to decree (as things were done in the Soviets) that radar detectors are illegal, whatever applies in the rest of the UK (of course they nod through every UK ANTI-motoring notion), so be aware you have to hide them up here.
I have bought a Morpheous.
I have heard that some engines, converted to use LPG / Autogas, are wearing out exceedingly quickly.
Apparently, the LPG strips the oil coating from the valve stems and cylinder walls, causing very rapid wear. It seems that some LPG converters are now being very cautious about which models they convert, and are advising existing owners to revert to petrol only.
Is this a common problem with LPG conversions? Read more
Friend of mine with 2.5V6 Vectra wanted a LPG conversion but was refused by the local outfitters as they had had significant troubles with these engines after conversion. 4 cylinders fine though apparently...

Sorry squire. "Poms" doesn't just refer to Englishmen but to "Port of Melbourne" where deportees were originally landed. So that could ahev been your forebears and all the others.

It is always possible that you have a sticking needle in the actual tachometer,if this is the case a tap on the face of the dial will sometimes free it and prove the problem.Worth a try.
