If you have bought a Peugeot with 'free' insurance, be aware of two things. Firstly, the number at the top of their letterhead is wrong. The code should be 0845, NOT 0870.
Secondly, although it is 'comprehensive', it does NOT cover you to drive other vehicles on a third party only basis. Furthermore, on the basis of 'caveat emptor', although I was prepared to pay the extra for this (just so that we could shuffle our sons' cars around to get out of the drive), but the insurance company won't allow you to do so. After all your help last week I have upgraded bulbs from standad to the Philips ones which give a "whiter" light and I can now see the road.
I also had my dealer align the lights properly (free of charge). BUT the right light shines to the left and the left light shines to the right. Being totally ignorant about these things, is this normal or should they only cross at a considerable distance? Read more
P100's,now there was a headlamp!
No pissing about with cretins using foglights when you've got a pair of those!
I reckon you could get a pair of 500 watt bulbs with room to spare in those monsters, and ,thus equipped you could have most of the so-called-classic BMW drivers through a hedge in weeks.
And jolly good riddance!
Next week, the aircraft spec 4wd eliminator........
I'm after some 2nd hand alloys for my 1999 Clio. Can anybody tell me which other cars have the same ofset etc. so I'm not just limited to Reno Wheels. Read more
I think MkI Golf but don't quote me on that! I've seen some custom MkI's with the MkI Clio 16V alloys however, they could have spacers fitted.
A question for a mate. Probably best handled by the great Dave Lacey but comment from anyone with any ideas would be welcome.
The interior light in his Rover won't come on with the door switch.
The switch works because the lights-on warning works and the alarm recognises if the door isn't shut.
The bulb works because you can switch it on manually.
So what needs replacing? Read more
Thanks for the kind comments Dave......
I was going to mention the MFU - it is a bit of a weak point indeed.
I would, first of all swap the o/s door switch with the n/s door switch - even as it appears to be working OK, just to check.
Otherwise (on the back of the fusebox) replace the MFU. Not too expensive IIRC.
Kind regards
David (Been a bit busy developing his own MG-Rover Forum elsewhere...)

Thanks for that! You live and learn - I'll confine my sarcasm for the older cars then!
I did wonder particularly about the modern lamps with clear 'glass', but headlamp protectors with built in masks I saw at my local Vauxhall dealer appeared to have the masks in the conventional location.

I came 5th, due to an excellent navigator. It was a great night. Had a disaster on the second stage due to misplotting a Time Control but arriving at it by fluke. (IYSWIM - We'd confirmed our incorrect position by finding the TC there but were acually on a parrallel road 20 yards east.) So no code boards on that section.
Anyway I've joined the club and will be doing all the 12 cars this season.
We have good scope for getting one more place back but a top 3 finish could be more tricky.
As most will know - it's all in the navigator... Read more
Ah yes...we are planning on doing one Friday week starting from Exeter Services, M5.
Gotta trust the navigator.....

Alwyn asked a question on Dave's first 12 car thread about interpreting the co-driver instructions.
Sorry Alwyn internet connection problems stopped me answering this over the weekend, plus the need to do my tax return. (Oh by the way Mr Inland Revenue thanks for that trick question in the middle which gave me a little frisson of excitement/panic, thankfully now resolved)
Any way Alwyn I cannot possibly answer your question without resorting to diagrams, which the site does not support for obvious reasons.
I have made a start on a Word.doc which when its finished I can e mail, if that is OK. I've done the road rally bit need to do the pace notes part. It will be virus checked at highest level on McAfee.
Andrew, like me you have competed in both seats, and I am sure you have some valuable input. If you are willing, let me know an email address and I will send it for you to modify.
Struck me that with the onset of the C4 series, see my Watch this on TV post, it might be useful info for newcomers to the sport.
Anybody else want their 2 pennorth, it would be nice to have something from the real boys. Come on Mr Burns you have posted some quick times on CMR website (allegedly) lets have some input then, or is it beneath one? ;-)
HJ/Martyn/Stephen have you any other suggestions other than emailing it round the place? I might try and post it on a web page somewhere? Read more
Thanks, it would be interesting.
Cheers
Saw a program on the box a few nights ago about the escalating numbers of accidents where the driver involved simply drove off, leaving the unfortunate pedestrian dead or severely injured. A senior policeman interviewed said that anyone driving without a licence, insurance or MOT should have their car confiscated an crushed.
That, to me, sounds like a damn good idea.
Comments?

We Have this in most of the US now with the need to go to the DMV to prove who you are (photo ID Driving Lyc.) and see that a good title is passed as well.... and the Reg(stamped with the Insurance Co. details showing the State Minimun coverage was on the car at the time of transfer...)
If you miss a payment on your insurance you will ge a letter from the DMV telling you the Reg is suspended untill the insurance is reinstated... the reg must be in the car at all times aand the driver must have his Lyxc. in his posetion if he is driving as well.
this whole system is behind the "no Fault" sytem for minor fender benders where no on is hurt that many states have adopted...
Wherther it works or not I do not know You would have to aska senior State Police Trouper I would guess to get a good answer...
I have heard it said the 90% of all auto theft today in the this part of the US is of the following forms
1> Chop shop stolen to order... broken up in to part in less than a few hours of the theft
2> Stolen to order and in a shipping contaner for transport to points south within a few min of the theft
3> staged theft (Fraud to get out from under insurance payments... Car is normaly torched afte a few bits are removed
Joy riders (under age of responsibility) make up most od the rest... almost no stolen cars today end up being sold on as is withing the US except perhaps for a bit of 'export' to one of the few states that still do not require a good title to reg...
