In a three-car crash. Is it the third or second car responsible for the first car's damage?

My daughter picked up a used car today. On her way home, she stopped at a roundabout and a delivery van hit the car behind her - which pushed it into hers. Minor damage, details exchanged. If an insurance claim needed, is the insurer of the car behind responsible or is the van driver's insurer responsible for the damage to both vehicles?

If the car behind was pushed into your daughter car by the van, it will all go back to them. The car behind is liable for the damage to your daughter's vehicle, and the van is liable for their damage.
