Which small 4x4?

After this spell of bad weather I think I might feel better about the future if I changed my car.

At present I have a 3 door 08 Mitsubishi Colt with 26k mileage, and want to sell it to buy something else.

I am in my 70s and when I had to take wife to the A+E during the night with deep snow on the ground I felt unsure of going out. We held on till early morning when the roads were more passable, to my wife's discomfort!

I know how you feel about having winter tyers but not having a garage to keep them in in the Summer, we live in a flat, I don't think it is possible.

So I thought I should think of getting a small 4x4 for next winter. I can't afford a new one and thought buying in the summer I might find something a little cheaper, (approx £3-4K) if I knew what to look for?

An added bonus, it would also give me a little more height for getting in and out.

I would have to get rid of my present car first though. Is there such a thing as an economical to run, small 4x4?

You can buy all season tyres such as Vredestein Quatracs and Continental Winter Contact GT850s can apparently be left on all year. Makes more sense than a 4x4.
