If at public charge points an electric car can charge from 40% to 80% in about 40 mins, what happens when the 80% charge is reached? Does the car continue to charge up towards 100% albeit at a slower rate, or does it stop charging?
If it only charges to 80% then I presume on a long journey you can only travel with 80% charge less the 10% minimum charge cars will not go below, which means quite a few charges on a journey.

Yes, most EVs will continue to charge at a slower rate above 80 per cent. I've not driven an electric car which won't drop below 10 per cent. EVs are at their best when you can charge overnight at home and then rarely travel further than their range in a day, meaning you don't have to be concerned about charging in public. That said, I've covered hundreds of miles in electric cars in a day and charging is getting easier than it used to be. I usually want to stop for a refreshment break before the car needs charging.
