  • Replacing a Ford fusion 1.4 tdci, but what with ?. 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've had a fusion 1.4 tdci for 2 years and have a desire to replace it with something a little bigger (5 large'ish adults plus lugage), better, more reliable and without costing a fortune (tax, insurance etc), budget £5k. I am not a big fan of Fords (I consider them unreliable, solely because everyone I've had has cost me a lot of money, in comparison to any other make) and having owned several Japanese cars (no problems and more reliable than my best Ford), I have shortlisted the following; Mazda 3 1.6ts diesel, Honda Civic 1.6 petrol & 1.7 cdti (which wife has), Honda Jazz, and the Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 hdi exclusive, strangely the Citroen and in pariticular the 2.0 hdi has some excellent user reviews, I did like the look of the cmax (pity Honda don't do something similar), but it's a ford & the write up on this web site ain't great.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 2005 - Strange starting problem 24 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I started thinking immobiliser but all the dash signs (i.e. the red flashing light) indicates this is working correctly as advised by a guy on 'Just Answer' website. The remote key has been checked by Ford and so has the system and its had a PCM reset to no avail. It locks and unlocks fine and will give the same problem with the standard (non remote) key. Ford didnt come across the non start problem but presumably they did all the checks inside half an hour so it didnt show up.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6tdci front wheel arch rust 'fix' 18 Apr 2011 (Forum)
From the car-by-car breakdown it appears a this is a common fault: "Rust appears on the back of the front wheel arches. The underseal in this area is inadequate and Ford has introduced a fix which involves a small strip of plastic that runs the length of the under sill and front wheel arch." I have seen later focus IIs with a plastic strip running along the sill and I enquired at my local ford parts centre if these or similar were available for my car.
  • ford ka 2004 - steering pump one day out of warranty 6 Mar 2011 (Forum)
the mot was done same time 2011 and all ok but within 2 weeks steering felt wrong, i monitored it a few days and took it back to the ford dealership garage that i have always used, their manager said the steering pump had gone again and he commented it was very unusual in such a short time.  i only did 4500 miles in that year.  he said he would contact ford uk to see if they would help financially, or make a decision.

  • Ford Fiesta 1997 - Ford Fiesta 1997 (Mazda 121) Revs Dropping 15 May 2010 (Forum)
Good day! I have a problem with my Mazda 121 (basically a ford fiesta). It has the endura -e engine. When I am driving, and I step on my clutch to change gears or to free, my rev counter needle sometimes drops really really fast (like its weighing 5 pounds) down to 500rpm and then comes back up to about 950rpm.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 06 2.0Petrol hatch - shaking at Motorway speed 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
There are 'sweet' spots of no vibration around 75mph and 80mph, but overall you can feel it through the steering wheel and through the bases of both front seats. On a long journey its annoying. Its wearing Michelin Pilots all around on 16" Ford alloys, all look in good arder, no cuts or bulges, tyre pressures are as recomended by Ford. I've had the wheels rebalanced and swapped from to back and this hasn't made any difference... Its got a years warranty, but before I let a garage look at it, any ideas?
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2003 1.8TDCi - reluctant to start when part warm 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
This time they found it (by accident) - it was a chaffed lead under the gearbox, lead which fed the fuel delivery system making occasional contact. I am hoping to sue the Dealer or Ford for the £1919-22 they charged me . Am I alone on this one - can any one advise how I proceed. Note Ford Customer Relationship Centre where NO USE at all didnt want to know.. I am sending details to motor mags and the popular press motor supplements.
  • Goodwill from Ford? 12 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Much sucking of air through teeth, the dealer says that Ford won't entertain a claim. We're feeling slightly miffed about this, an expensive fault developing as a consequence of something that happened within weeks of the warranty end, could the ECU be programmed to fail the coil on cue?
  • Stalling Ford Galaxy TDi 115 PD 30 Jan 2002 (Forum)
For a 1.7 ton car, it shifts very quickly, that it when it gets around the first corner. Unfortunately our car spent 4 weeks over Xmas and New Year with Ford Dealers trying to work out why it cut out soon after starting and would then not restart and needed to be towed away by the RAC. Our local Ford dealer was baffled and insisted it was because there was less than 1/4 tank of diesel.

  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - rust around the rear wiper blade 7 Feb 2009 (Forum)
And how should I go about touching up the paintwork? I have tried to use a little brush supplied with a tube of touch-up paint supplied by Ford, but the result looks terrible. Can rust patches ever be touched in professionally, without resorting to respraying the whole tailgate? My Ford was registered in 2003 and I have been back to a Ford dealer, but they say that to qualify for the rust (or perforation?)
