Ford Sierra Rear Calliper - Chris Smith
Hello

I am having problems sourcing parts for a Ford Sierra rear calliper. I have a Caterham 7 Supersprint (Ford 1700 - 1990 De-dion), which uses Sierra rear callipers. I have broken the bolt on the rear nearside calliper which the handbrake tension spring locates on. Caterham Parts will only sell me a complete new calliper and I do not have the time to liberate this part from an old Sierra in a breakers yard. Ford did produce a service kit which consisted of this bolt and the handbrake tension spring, however this has been discontinued.

Basically, the bolt has a 13mm head, with what looks like a small pulley welded directly underneath the bolt head (this is where the loop of the spring locates to the bolt). There is then about 25mm of shank and then the threaded part of the bolt, which is a slightly smaller diameter to the the shank. The threaded part of the bolt has broken off into the calliper.

Does anyone know of anywhere where I can get this bolt or where I would could get such a bolt made, I have the bolt from the other side for a pattern. I live in SW London, so ideally somewhere reasonably close to me or a company with mail-order facilities.

Many Thanks

Chris Smith

Try Burton Performance Centre, London 020 8554 2281 you may have to buy a whole caliper but they will be cheaper than caterham.
Re: Ford Sierra Rear Calliper - Chris Smith
Thanks for that Burtons charge 129.90 GBP for a pair of callipers (exchange) and Caterham charge 210.00 GBP for one!

This is still bloody expensive for a bolt! My bolt search continues...

Get one made up by a local machine shop - there must be many near you - try the yellow pages.
Take along the pattern bolt you have and see what they say.
Our local machine shop can work wonders with what look like scrap parts

Chris where are you in UK?
Re: Bolt Answer - Chris Smith
I am in South West London; Wimbledon.
Re: Bolt Answer - Stuart B
Sorry Chris, Norfolk is a bit far then, I had in mind some guys who are specialists in these one off fabrication jobs for motor manufacturers. superb machinists as well, particularly for long runs of components.

David Laceys advice to look up a local machine shop is as good a bet as any, will look up our info at work to see if I can find someone else reliable close by.
