  • Underside rust 18 Feb 2023 (Forum)
It looks like the car gods, don't want to me to buy a replacement car!. I did see a BMW (3 series - 2015), but put off by reliability and cost of maintenance. I have an aversion to high repair bills or being off-road without a car. My list is getting smaller - no diesels, no cars with turbo, no 3 cylinder cars, no cars with trailer hooks  etc....

  • Do you have any advice about driving to charge a flat battery? 11 Jan 2021 (Ask HJ)
If I take my car for a decent motorway run to charge battery, do you have any advice about speeds, gears, putting heaters on etc?
  • Is a flickering daytime running light an MoT failure? 10 Oct 2019 (Ask HJ)

  • New car for the Mrs 5 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Here’s the line up: - Fiat 500x - Honda Civic - Mazda 2 - Mini 5dr - Nissan Juke We like the 500x but it sure on reliability, Civic is safe bet, Mazda 2 fine but same size as Yaris, Mini is good but parts and servicing is a bit expensive, love the Juke cos of its higher ride can get a good spec for money. We have up to £11k to spend, don’t want anything older than 2015, we have two kids (5 & 6) to ferry round with the odd extra child from school. Petrol only cos it’ll only do short journeys. There are other cars but won’t something reliable and not to big (as we have an estate car;mine) also car might not be used for a few days so we want it to start.

  • Diesel or Hybrid? 26 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hello all I currently own a 2015 Golf Diesel with around 35,000 miles. It’s a really nice car and haven’t had any issues whatsoever in the 12 months I’ve owned it (had 15,000 miles when I got it). Recently I have been toying with the idea of hybrid cars but I am totally lost as to whether they would suit my needs.

  • Faulty Microsoft Surface Device - am I covered? 8 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in November 2015 and used a credit card to buy it.  The device has now developed a fault (we believe due to a software update) which means the keyboard no longer works. I have swapped keyboards and reinstalled Windows and tried all the 'fixes' advised by Microsoft to no avail.
  • New Car? Commute Change 13 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hi I currently drive a Yaris Hybrid (2015) and I admit I do really liek the car, the car is currently on PCP finance and we owe about £1000 more then the car is worth, so are in negative equity.  Obviously this wouldn't be an issue if my other half hadn't changed jobs.
  • Volkswagen Polo GTI - PCP - trade in early or not? 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Hello, I currently PCP a 2015 polo GTI, which is approaching the 2 year mark in March.  I recently found out that my partner and I will be having a baby in September (ish), and so I'm contemplating trading in early for a bigger car.
  • KIA Sorento KX2 - New Kia or not? 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi, At present we have a February 2015 manual KIA KX2 and have just clocked up 34K, all on pleasure trips. Because of the high mileage we approached a dealer who is willing to knock off around £3 to 4 K of a new KX2, with unfortunately, a low trade in price of around £17.5K.

  • When's the next Lexus RX coming? 3 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)
Drawing a software analogy, it seems to me that the RX 450h is to the RX400h as Windows Vista is to XP - not a real successor. So are Lexus working on...
  • Ford Focus Zetec 5 Dr 1.6 Tdci (2011 mark3) - Control panel lights and cAN bus issues 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I am having problems with control panel lights on my 2011 mark 3 Ford Focus Zetec 5 door hatchback 1.6 tdci. (32000 miles). Purchased s/h November 2014. When the ignition is switched on, the halo light surrounding the radio on/off button, and the hazard warning switch, along with the heating controls, the steering wheel controls, and external lights switch (but NOT the radio control panel switches) all light up.

  • Ford Focus ST - Stalling Issue 6 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The service manager there said they had looked up "Google" and saw the problem on different forums both here and the US. They also had advice from Ford technical that the problem exists and how to deal with it. Apparently Ford UK issued a TSB on the 3rd September about the issue but the dealership had not been made aware. So I felt vindicated, as I was being treated as a liar.
  • Ford Maverick - Which to buy? CRV mk1 or Maverick mk2 15 May 2012 (Forum)
Should I stick with the tried and tested Honda and just look for a good one or is the Maverick a contender? US sites show opinions on the CRV Mk1 vs the equivalent Ford Escape as being pretty equally divided, with the Ford being slightly better in the rough stuff due to having a dash button to lock the 4x4. I don't know how much use that'd get - I'm not an offroad person, I just want something with space that'll get me to work when the weather is bad (and figure that spring is a good time to look!)
