  RAC says cars are here to stay 20 Apr 2009 (News)
  Following a new report by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) about the vehicle's place in UK society, the organisation said there is no way people can stop driving their cars. It found that for 80 per cent of the country, having a motor "is the norm" - but usage per person has stabilised in recent years. The RAC said changing trends and traffic congestion may be putting consumers off taking up the roads so much.

  Since recipients of Disability Allowance are on government money anyway, surely the way forward is for the government to use this to encourage use of electric cars among those of them who don't drive big distances. Electric cars are not practical for long distance use and never will be. They make the most sense for short runs, or use within confined areas, such as cities. Prime Minister Brown and his Government should be concentrating on that instead of using the idea of electric cars as environmental 'spin' to inflict yet more draconian taxes on owners of cars with Internal Combustion engines.

  Motorists buying second-hand cars from Kia may soon benefit from the same warranty that is already offered to those purchasing new vehicles. From April, some used model customers will drive away with a seven-year guarantee. In order to qualify for this length of warranty , buyers must purchase a vehicle that is no more than 18 months old and has covered under 18,000 miles.

  The group put the rise in the number of accidents down to the fact motorists in the UK are not used to driving in snowy and icy conditions.   People who are looking for car buying advice may be interested to hear an electric vehicle manufacturer is opening a retail outlet at Westfield shopping centre in Shepherds Bush, London. Nice Car Company has revealed shoppers will be able to book test drives and check out its range of models, including the MyCar and the Mega City. Co-founder of the firm Julian Wilford said the new mall was the ideal location for the group to promote its vehicles - as like the manufacturer's products - Westfield was stylish and would have a beneficial effect on the local environment.
