Toyota unveils new iQ engine

Thu, 05 Mar 2009
Motorists considering buying a car that can help them cut running costs may want to check out the latest engine option for the Toyota iQ.

The manufacturer has announced it is now offering the model with a 1.33-litre Dual VVT-i petrol unit.

Buyers opting for this version of the vehicle will also find it is equipped with Optimal Drive technology and Toyota's Stop & Start system - both of which are designed to improve fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.

The new engine features a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

With CO2 emissions of 113 g/km, the latest version of the iQ is also capable of achieving 58.9 mpg.

Meanwhile, people who worry about the safety credentials of smaller cars may be reassured to hear the model was recently awarded a maximum five-star rating from crash test group Euro Ncap.

Earlier this year, Toyota reported an iQ2 fitted with a 1.0-litre WT-i petrol engine covered more than 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.
