Ford Fiesta - Wheel balancing caused grinding brake issue 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The bad news is they've managed to introduce a rather dull grinding noise, coming from what appears to be the front driver side brake area. The noise appears most prominent when coasting at low speeds, rising in sound levels when applying the brakes. I've also noticed a couple of times that my steering spins wildly to the right when slowing down (but this has only happened literally the twice so far, and is far from the norm). -
VW Passat B5.5 - Brakes lack bite after being blead 14 May 2012 (Forum)
Just blead the brakes on my (2003) B5.5 estate and now they lack bite and have more pedal travel. The first push of the pedal is spongy, and on the second it does bite. Before the blead, the brakes were sharp, requiring less push of the pedal before they bit. -
Peugeot 206 - 2001 206 2.0 HDi lights gone crazy & engine cuttin 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
It also causes the milometer to go every when the indicators flash on Also when the engine is running it cuts out when the brake pedal is pressed. It doesn't cut out if the car is moving & in gear. but for instance when you pull up to a junction & press the clutch & brake pedal it cuts out & also cuts when car is idling & the brake is pressed. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Brake Cylinder Replacement Cost 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hey all, hope you can help me with my little problem. My Focus failed its MOT due to the rear, passenger-side brake wasnt up to scratch. I took it in to the garage that carried out the MOT this morning to look into this issue. I got a call at 3pm to say that the drum was badly corroded and they had to cut the bearings off to have a look at the shoe and it would cost £330 to replace the leaky brake cylinder's and brake shoe's so that it would pass the MOT. -

Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Premature Rear Brake Wear 20 May 2009 (Forum)

Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0 brake problem 17 May 2009 (Forum)
There is nothing to say its the brakes. One mechanic said could be something to do with suspension or steering but cant see how? It gets worse though when the brakes get used more. It gets that bad sometimes it makes the whole car vibrate. -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1997 1.8 Rear brake shoes won't stay in line 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm writing this from work as I stayed behind at 6pm to quickly replace the rear brake shoes on my Escort (1997/R 1.8 16v Ghia X 5 door hatch, no ABS). I'm quite mechanically adept but haven't worked on drum brakes in about 15 years. I am using a Haynes manual for guidance. I have changed the offside shoes but when I refit the drum to the hub, the drum will only rotate freely through 180' before stopping with a clonk. -
Volkswagen Polo IV (2005 - 2009) - 05 1.4 brakes locking up 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
My mum has an 05 Polo (1.4 Tdi) which just a few weeks out of warranty exhibited a fault whereby the offside rear wheel locks up whilst in motion. Aside from the fact that the garage replaced her front brakes ("I have a problem with my brakes") and almost replaced the rear brakes at considerable expense (the car has done less than 40K miles), they now think that it is an ABS fault. The fault is intermittent but my mum is now very worried about driving the car - the fault so far has only happened at low speed but if it happened at motorway speeds the result would be an immediate loss of control so it is extremely dangerous. -
nissan primera - brakes 26 May 2005 (Forum)
Could the back room please help me with the following query : Took my car for a service at Nissan main dealer today, and one of the items I asked them to check was the fact that there is sometimes a 'popping' sound when I apply the brakes. They phoned me and said the brakes needed 'shimming' and were beginning to 'break up'. While this sounded serious to me, they said it does not really matter and is not a safety issue. They recommended waiting for the next service before doing the 'shimming', at which time new pads would also be needed. -
Ford Mondeo Braking 16 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I also not that the engine is not exactly centrally mounted along the centre axis of the car, by design. Could this cause the effect mentioned? I don't think this is connected with brakes, which seem fine. However, when braking hard from speed, the car does want to steer to the right, which has to be corrected. I have just fitted two new front tyres and had the tracking done (front wheels only), but this problem (?) -
Volkswagen Polo - '57 plate VW Polo brakes issue - faulty ABS? 12 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi, Newbie here - hoping someone can help with this ongoing saga... The brake pedal on my 57 plate VW Polo started feeling mushy and braking was less responsive. Took it into a local garage to have the brakes checked, and they advised that there was nothing wrong - probably just needed a brake fluid change and bleeding. -
Volkswagen Passat - Electronic park brake problem EPB 25 Jan 2014 (Forum)

Peugeot 106 diesel 1997 - Front brakes sticking - Need help desperately 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I only do 3000 miles per year total, on quiet roads so not much braking. The front nearside brake is jamming yet again. I had it serviced and freed off a week ago (they cleaned up and greased the piston sliders). It always happens at the beginning of a journey, and always can be freed by hard braking, but the wheel gets very hot. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 'Check Parking Brake' warning after pad change 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Is it possible to remove the warning? The brakes work fine, and the parking brake works as it should... I don't really want to take it to a Renault dealer. Any help much appreciated! Regards, Rick. Subject line tweak to make everything fit [removed engine size - I know, I know :-( ] altered year to read 2004 - don't think they made electronic parking brakes in 1954 - sensible chaps ! -
Always expect the unexpected - ABS! 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I don't think it's a coincidence that it happened seconds after I braked the hardest I've ever braked (if I was driving an auto, it would have been a two footer jobbie) but I'm surprised it kicked in under such gentle pressure. No doubt the ABS module is about to blow up, or maybe the brakes have just crumbled away. -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - '97 Nasty noise when braking & motorway cornering 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I had a new front section of exhaust put on my 214 on Wednesday (was the bit from the manifold to the cat) as the flexi bit was blowing. Anyway, around 5 miles after driving off and out of town, I had to use the brakes at more than 10mph and I got a funny noise that sounds like a horrible groaning noise and the steering wheel shaking when braking. It doesnt do it all of the time but if you brake any more than lightly the noise is there and at higher speeds sounds like a vey bad droan/heavy vibration. -
Ford Cougar - rear brakes 3 May 2013 (Forum)

Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1999 2.2 diesel dealer/brakes problem 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
the dealership repairing the car had it for over a month and have said that the master cylinder and soemthing else brake related (cant quite remember at the mo) has gone and they want £1000 to repair, having had the car MOT'd less than 2months before the accident, he had noticed nothing wrong with the brakes what-so-ever, so he as surprised to get this news from the dealer. he has said no to the repairs for now on the car, signed a waiver that says the dealer has infomed him the brakes are dangerous and the car should not be driven, and tested the car in a secure car park, needless to say the brakes were not working as they had been prior to the car being taken away (he described it as like driving his work's transit van with 6 elepahants in the back, it just kept going and going).
