VW Polo - Emergency braking engaged for no reason 23 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Coming home this evening, I was rounding a corner at 30mph when the emergency braking kicked in for a second. It scared me witless. I should have a dashcam video. I will report this to the manufacturer. However, I’ve had a stream of faults from my car, a new VW Polo, and a loaner while mine was being repaired. -
Any - Automatic Braking 16 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We all welcome safety improvements. I notice an increasing number of cars with collision avoidance automatic braking of the car if a crash is likely. The theory seems excellent. But what happens after a few years to its reliability ? How do garages check it's state ? Are some makers better than others ? -
Autos L. Foot braking 22 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Some folks may find it ok but my R foot feels to have control while the L is like bowing a violin with a hammer. In an emergency the natural thing for me is to operate the brake with the R foot and surely instinct in that situation has to be right. Any thoughts? -
Audi A3 Sportback - Brake disc discolouration 18 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I have had a brand new Audi A3 Sportback for about three weeks. It is kept outside and has only done about 250 miles. From day 1, the brake discs have shown signs of yellowy discolouration, such that the front discs now appear almost gold in colour. I assume that this is an oxidation/rust issue, and if so, is it normal and what (if anything) should I be doing about it? -

Citroen C5 - Annoying "squealing" from rt. front Brakes. 11 May 2012 (Forum)
This C5 car has the Bosch Brake System. This squealing has persisted over a few months and it was suggested I change from "Hard" Pads to softer ones. I replaced with Metelex Pads but the noise persists. (the old pads were hardly worn). -
Toyota Avensis 08 2.2 estate - Front/ Rear Brake Pads 6 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Just thinking ahead but do you need any special tools when replacing the rear brake pads? I know on some vehicles you need to wind the piston in as it doubles for the handbrake - is this the same? I'm unable to get a manual for this 08 model otherwise I'd have gone and bought one. -

Rover 420 front brakes 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I examined the front brakes on my car and found the front offside outer pad very thin, the other three pads are still thick. The defective pad being on the outside is not operated by the hydraulic piston but by the stub arms. -
Electronic parking brake 3 May 2006 (Forum)
I drove a Ford C-Max today, and it had an electronic parking brake. I've never come across one before, and wondered if anyone had any thought about these, on reliability or otherwise. Perhaps I'd get used to it, but it seemed more controllable to hold the car on an incline using a handbrake. -
Brake bleeding BMW 316 Compact 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
What is the best way to bleed brakes on a 1997 BMW 316 compact? I ask because I have heard rumors that you have to be careful using one of those ezibleed one man systems on ABS systems if at all. I have one but have never used it or would it be better to avoid using this and get someone to pump the pedal while I bleed the system?
