  • Mazda Mazda 3 (2004 - 2009) - 2006 1.6 - Audible Brakes 3 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi All, On my 2006-year Mazda3 everytime I apply the brakes a noise is heard in the cabin. It's not a very loud noise by any means but certainly sounds like two surfaces rubbing together - what brakes do I suppose - but I've never witnessed this noise inside the cabin.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2004 1.9 Check brake pads warning light 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
1 week after getting my car back from repairers, following an ambulance reversing into the front drivers side of car, the 'check brake pads' warning light comes on during driving, usually after hitting a bump/pothole in the road (I know the brakes pads are fine as had the car serviced just 5 weeks ago and pads were only 15% worn).
  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 00 1.4 Petrol - hiss when pressing the brake pedal 22 Apr 2008 (Forum)
When I push the brake pedal, I get a hissing noise from the passenger footwell. I have looked and there is a rubber / plastic washer, which when I look in the engine bay seems to go to the servo(?). Is this hissing a problem (a part from being very annoying)?
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1992 1.8 diesel - Rear brake leaking. 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
1992 1.8 diesel. I replaced the rear brake cylinder recently as the old one had seized. Yesterday I removed the brake drum to inspect the condition of the shoes and give a dust out to discover that the fairly new cylinder is leaking. The shoes have done 17000 miles Given that the Fiesta shoe are not that thick in lining to start with, they still don't look that much worn.
  • S-Class brake light switch 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I read the fault codes and found that it is fitted with a Bosch ASR module MB# 018 545 47 32 HW version 46/97 SW version 18/96. Fault code C1200 brake light switch: open circuit / bad contact /plausibility. Does anybody know where the switch is located? I had a good shuftie around the footwell and could not seem to get the trim above the footwell off to look at the point where the brake pedal pivots.

  • '96 Golf VR6 sounds haunted 5 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Pretty sure it's coming from the back but can't be 100% sure. Also on a couple of occasions i've had to brake sharply and i can feel the pedal juddering so i'm guessing it could be something to do with the brakes. Somebody i've mentioned it to said it could be a worn / warped brake disc. I had the car serviced in August and they mentioned the discs were a bit worn but wouldn't need to bother getting it replaced as my brake pads were fine so 'no need to bother for another 10,000 miles or so'.
  • 1990mk2golf1.3 brake drum/bearing? 19 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hello Every time I brake medium/hard there is a scraping/scouring sound from the passenger side of my car. Inititally throught it was the front wheel so I had the front pads/discs changed. This did not solve the problem, garage reckoned it was the front bearing so we changed this, but did not solve the problem.
  • Vauxhall Astra brakes sticking 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've removed the drum and all looks ok and have loostened the handbrake cable a bit but when I started the car the brake had seized again. Any ideas - I'm unwilling to pay much for a repair as the car is so old.
  • Fiesta Brake disc Installation. 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I have purchased some original motorcraft brake discs and pads for my ford fiesta xr2i 1.6. However in the box with the brake disc is a leaflet stating that before installation of the disc 'the anti corrosion material/film needs to be throughly washed off in an alkalie bath'.
  • 1982 Granada - Brakes - pulls to left 1 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I've noticed my '82 Granada pulls to the left when braking, particularly under hard braking at higher speeds. The shocks are new all round, I have put new cylinders and shoes on the rear recently and the front discs and pads are in good condition with minimal wear, although I do not know how old they are.
  • Laguna Brakes 4 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The Recent snowy weather ( in North Yorkshire) I had to stop all of a sudden for a rabbit, ( this is true, and i will get to the point), this caused the car to slide, but i could control where it was going. I noticed that the brakes made a funny noise (sort of rumbling sound) and the brake pedal was sort of vibrating and pulsing, the car has just past a MOT, and it has ABS to which the ABS light goes out on start-up as it should, the car stops fine under normal breaking conditions- is this normal???
  • uneven rear brakes zx 28 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Breaking on all wheels must be even. The volcane has failed the mot twice because one rear wheel brakes more than the other it now has a 60% imbalance. New discs and pads fitted all round. I am also going to replace the rear offending caliper and also replace one of the pressure regulating valves. has anyone any tips on how to get the rear brakes right and also how to test the success of any work done without taking it for yet another mot.
  • Passat brakes - update 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
He did a visual inspection of the discs and said that there was signs of, for example, the car being idle for a time as the shape of the pads was evident on the rear discs; it was this that could be causing the 'jerky brakes.' He then went on to say that a VW memo had said that corroded brake discs weren't covered under VW's warranty!! Have now written a letter back to the supplying dealer with the situation. Haven't had the car two weeks yet, it has only done 5000 miles, so watch this space with their reply!!
  • "Clicking" brakes 26 Mar 2001 (Forum)
When mentioned to a salesman, he suggested it was because it's new, which sounds like flannel. Can anyone suggest the real explanation? Car does not have ABS, but brakes are servo-assisted.
  • 5 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Maintaining the estatus quo. Never ceases to amaze me the number of people who think engine braking and therefore clutch lining is less expensive to replace than brake pads.
  • Nissan Micra N-Connector 0.9 - Nissan Micra 2018 rear brake adjusment 27 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Can anyone give me the rear brake adjustment and hand break adjustment methods for my 2018 Micra. I hope they are not the self adjusting type that never work.  There is a CKS Torx screw in the break drum has this anything to do with the adjustment?
  • Citroen C3 1.6HDi Diesel 2005 - Brake pedal clunks on startup 28 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I've noticed that on start up there is a clunk from the brake pedal, it physically moves once the key is released and engine starts normally.  It can be quite loud sometimes and not at all at others. It occurs intermittently and at first I though it was a ventilation flap slamming shut, it's that sort of noise.
  • hyundai i10 2011 - front brake pads renewal 15 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I have been told pushing the slave cylinder back with a G clamp can invert the rubbers in the master cylinder and contaminate the ABS system. If I clamp the brake pipe and open the bleed nipple a little and push the cylinder back, will I have to bleed the system after fitting the pads. Anyone know the correct procedure for this job ?
