  hi lads.. i have a 306 xsi with a set of rsr khans 17s.........i just changed the front brake pads and they\'re sqeaking like anything could anyone tell me why this please.... thank you

  Hi all, my brakes have had a lot of work done over the past couple of weeks. New discs and pads on the front and (I quote this from the garage invoice) "stripping, freeing + rebuilding rear brakes and front callipers".

  I refitted both switches with the brake pedal in its home position and reconnected the battery. Cleared fault codes and started the car, this time I get code: P0703 Torque Converter Brake Switch B Circuit Malfunction If I monitor PID 'brake pedal' on the code reader, I get a correct on/off reading when the pedal is pressed.

  They were rubbish. The brakes are still quite sharp from 10mph or less though. The pedal was going right to the floor when I first got back. It seems slightly better now, but it's not hard, very spongy. You can here a hiss from the brake pedal when pushed, but I thinks thats normal.

   Transpired not only had the calipers failed but the rear discs and pads required replacing.Before the visit the brake pedal had a short travel before the brakes engaged. Have been back twice to the garage and road tested and still there is too much travel.They have bled the brakes 4 times and before road test 2 they stated the brakes were OK.Incientally the front discs and pads were changed this year also by VW.

  My car [owned from new] has always been serviced at recommended intervals by either franchised dealers or trusted independents. Just lately, applying very light brake pressure when coming to a halt [2/3 mph] has led to what may or may not be the ABS system kicking in - a sort of light "chattering", rather than pulsing, can be felt through the brake pedal itself.

  The brake pedal seemed to stick own without warning and although I tried to lift it up the brakes had locked on. (The handbrake was definitely off!) We stopped as quickly as possible on the narrow busy road but the discs were very hot and the front offside was beginning to smoke.

  Hi, my Focus is over revving when coming to a stop. Hitting the brakes sends the revs really high, and the only way to cure it is to brake sharp, take foot off the brakes and then brake again to bring revs back to normal. Makes me look like a boy racer and frightens anyone crossing the road in front of me!

  I am having a terrible time with fixing my brakes. We have replaced the Master cyl 3 times and each wheel cyl. It still feels like there is air in the line. We have bleed the brakes so much I should invest in the brake fluid company. We see nothing leaking.

  I have a 1991 VW Passat which just failed its ITV (MOT here in Spain) because of low reading for rear left brake and handbrake. The brake drum seems fine although a bit pitted (meaning maybe it hasn't been functioning properly for a while). The brake shoes are only slightly worn. I haven't found any dust, debris or other contaminants.

  I would be grateful for any feedbck on brakes & perfomance. I have had the car for 3 years, and has 30K on the clock. I dont tow, and no major probs so far. I live by the sea, and my brake discs go rusty in 48 hours. The car rarely travels more than 20 miles per day, at no more than 40mph (with annuual 2000 mile round trip[s to Spain) The brakes now need replacing, as the discs are grooved.

  Hello everyone - I've got a problem and I wonder if anyone can help me out with it. I have a 1994 VW Golf Mk3 1.4CL with a recurring noise from the brakes. The problem is not when I press the brake, more when I don't or (especially) when I go round right hand turns - there is a squeal from the offside front. Not only that, but on rough surfaces, there is a loud clunking noise from the same area.

  I have a 1.9TD Xantia Estate (1996/N) which has done 126K miles without any major problems. I recently had a major service done where the front brake pads where renewed and the rear brake discs and pads where renewed. Since then there seems to be a very loud squealing noise every time I press the brakes. This doesn't matter whether the pedal pressure is light or heavy the noise only increases.

  My 2010 Kia Sorento petrol suddenly needs both front and left rear brake disks and pads replaced. Is this a common problem? What can I do to get a fair deal in repairing them? Glynn.

  The brake lights have stopped working, I've checked the bulbs and the fuses and they're ok, is there a switch somewhere I can/should investigate? And suggestions welcome.

  What is the current view on brake fluid changes? Most handbooks seem to specify every 2 years.  Could this be safely extended to 3 years? In the distant past, I never changed the fluid, except when topping-up after work on the hydraulic system.
