1995 toyota celica convertible 2.0GT Auto - Celica Charge and Catalyst lights suddenly on 12 Jul 2012 (Forum)
It had a new catalyst and oxygen sensor about 1,000 miles ago when I bought it. It has actually passed the MOT fine - went through the emissions OK the car only gets used in the summer for days out, long trips to countryside, and is in storage a lot of the year under a cover so kept dry. Any ideas ?? has done about 98,000km (= 67,000 miles ??) Is this going to be an expensive trip to a diagnostics place..... -

Revoked licence?!? Help please 27 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi. I had a bump with another car at the beginning of this month and was given a producer for my licence insurance certificate and mot certificate. Took these things into police station today to be told I'm not covered to drive my boyfriends car even though I'm on a fully comp policy! -
Mile-munching estate 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Mileage is likely to increase due to work commitments, and given the high second hand prices here in Spain I'm looking for a new car which will be my workhorse for the next five years, by which time it'll have 250-300,000km on the clock. An estate format is the most practical for both dogs and shopping, and of course mpg as I'll be spending more on fuel than the car. -

Ford Fiesta Encore 1998, (1.3 petrol Endura-E) - 1998 Fiesta 1.3 fails MOT on emissions 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Things I did before the test: New air filter, oil change and new oil filter, checked valve clearances, cleaned muck from inside rocker cover, checked exhaust system for leaks, ran car at high revs for a couple of miles. The cat (around £250 on this model) was replaced 11 months ago. My next step will be to check the output of the oxygen sensor with a voltmeter, and peer at the internals of the cat though the hole. -
Citroen C5 2006 1.8 LX - Citroen C5 - any advice good / bad / run away ? 20 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Of course the running costs will be more than a diesel but the purchase price is almost half of an equivalent car with a diesel engine, plus she gets 40 p a mile for her work related usage, so it will more than cover the costs. Now I have the impression that these Citroens were pretty much above par on build quality and reliability, it certainly seems well made. -
Ford mondeo TDCi 53 Plate - Smell of fuel and smoke in engine bay 18 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hi all I'm having trouble with my 53 plate Mondeo TDCi (no suprise there!!!). The other week I could smell fuel as I walked past the car, this was after a long journey. I had a quick look around but couldn't see any problems so left alone. A couple of days later I noticed smoke in my headlights rising from the grille. I removed the engine cover and could see smoke but not the source. -
Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - 2006 2.4 Engine Vibration D5 31 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Strange, as soon as I get past 1800 revs, the engine is as smooth as you would expect. The same can be said when cruising in 5th 6th gear, and acclerating through this rev range. The car has been in several times to my local Volvo dealer, who have tried several things, including, changing the grey plastic engine cover, which was faulty and vibrating, this made things a bit better. They have also Inspected all the top & lower engine mounts and the mountings on the top engine stabilization bar. -
Mazda CX-7 (2007 - ) - General Question - subframe damage 25 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Firstly, is this serious as i was expecting a snapped control arm or something similar given the low speed impact? Or is rear subframe a term used to cover any rear suspension damage, even if minor? secondly, why can they not say for certain now that there's no chassis damage? thirdly, can someone explain the repair process in laymans terms? Is it easier to replace a subframe on modern cars than to mess about with individual suspension components? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1995 1.4 PTE SEFI erratic misfire when warm 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It is now suggested that the ECU may be at fault and should be replaced, if this is done will the new unit require reprogramming to the car by a dealer, I am told that the coil unit will have to be replaced as well as part of the ECU system. Recently the car has started to show the symptoms within a few minutes of driving from cold and is becoming dangerous to drive. -
Seat Leon SE TDi 110 BHP Misfire 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If I pull away from a junction and change into second I get a misfire between 1800 and 2000 rpm the engine/turbo makes an ?Err, Err, Err sound. After I pass 2000 rpm the car drives OK, if a little rough. I have found if I start the engine and rev pass 2000 rpm the car will drive smother between this rev range. I have changed the air filter, engine temperature sensor, fuel filter and the N75 valve. -
Front tyre wear Mondeo mk2 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
That was 20k ago though. The car still steers straight at present, and there are no signs that anything is overly worn or out of alignment. Can I just fit a new set of tyres, or is there something else that needs attention? Cheers DP -
Diesel injectors serviced- new nozzles 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My Fiat Marea Weekend 2.4TD has now covered 93,000 miles and the injector light had been coming on from start up for about 2 miles. My local garage were unable to do the work, but recommended Kent Diesel Centre in Maidstone. They removed the injectors (5 cylinders) and fitted new nozzles, checked the cylinder compression (now at 350 compared to a new figure of 400), checked the boost pressure on the turbo and road tested the car - all for £360. -
VAG brake disks/pads 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Had the car down for a service recently and the mechanic advised me that the disks as well as the pads needed changing quite soon. Disk looks ok to me, I thought, but he told me the wear is on the inside only. -
Recovery after an accident 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
('local recovery' underlined) So if I live in Lancashire, and am involved in an RTA, say, in the midlands as I am drivng home, they wouldn't take me or the car home. I would have to pay ££££ to some recovery firm to do this. But yet if the gearbox went BANG!, then the AA would relay me & the car home. Is this now the case for all the other breakdown services (assuming one had the equivalent of Relay )? -
Replacement 7 seater 11 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My mother-in-law is a sort of upmarket minicab driver in London and drives a Hyundai Trajet V6. Well, she did until an accident has probably written the car off. I won't bore you with the details, as I am not sure of them myself. Anyway, she will have almost no money for a deposit for the replacement, but at least she had GAP insurance to cover the difference between the expected payout and the amount owing on the finance.
