fabia mpi - Rear-ended another car, it's totaled...now scared 17 May 2012 (Forum)
That 4x4 then mounted the verge and traffic flow resumed, so I picked up speed. Then all of a sudden the car in front of me braked and so did I, but obviously not in time. The 4x4 was involved with some road side clearing up or something as another 4x4 with a trailer showed up and the lady I crashed into was kicking up a fuss about how there was no signage for the workers or a flashing yellow light. -
VW Golf 1.4FSi - Mechanic covered up serious problem! 11 Dec 2011 (Forum)
The car isn't driven very often however I took the car out today to put petrol in it and driving on the snow noticed that the ESP was not limiting wheel spin and all four wheels locked up under braking (no ABS intervention). Also the ESP on/off button was illuminating 'OFF'. The ESP light did not even flicker when wheel spinning. Anyway I done a little detective work tonight and have since discovered that in order for the car to pass its MOT (as with the ABS light on it would have been failed) the mechanic has simply removed both bulbs from the dashboard and claimed the car had been 'fixed'. -
Fabia Elegance Estate 105 CR TDi - HARSH RIDE FABIA 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The wheel and tyre combination chosen for this level of trim combine to keep as high a level of traction and road-holding as in the other levels of trim on the Fabia range. The suspension set-up prevents squatting or bucking when accelerating and braking. This provides a smoother transition and helps to reinforce the elegance name." Something strange here. According to the Skoda brochure, the SE & Elegance have the same Kerb weight, Total weight & Payload - namely 1239kg, 1694kg & 455kg. -
Bad driving LGV, report?? 8 May 2010 (Forum)
Almost instantaneously I am aware of the lorry now directly behind me, I would estimate maybe a car's length from my bootlid, flashing his headlights. I'm talking a full size artic here. I am a tad snookered now, as the guy in lane 3 has begun braking falongside the car in lane 2 in readiness for the last SPECS cameras as we reach the end of the restriction. (some folk just don't understand SPECS) The lorry driver then throws his wagon across into lane 1 and passes me whilst gesticulating to my partner in the passenger seat as if he has some coffee beans in his hand. -
Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - GTI test drive 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
It actually felt less powerful and eager than the Avensis in these low rev tootlings. Sharpness of the brakes took a lot of getting used to. Ride quality far better than expected. Onto the M5's rutted and washboard effect inside lane, aim to potter along at 60 or so and see what sort of economy it was capable of. -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2002 2.0 HDI (110bhp) SX - Engine noise 27 Jun 2009 (Forum)
We have had the car for nearly 2 years and bought it second hand from the dealer in {deleted, as you've made an accusasion about them} . Great car apart from the howling noise from the rear brakes which took 5 trips to our local dealer in {deleted - same reason} and 1 stand up argument to fix. Why don't Citroen fit anti squeal schims to C's when they did to the Xantias???? Anyway. We have a new and ongoing problem..... -
Mercedes Benz E-Class W211 (2002 - 2009) - E320CDI - Running Report 1 May 2009 (Forum)
It has leather, Parktronic parking sensors, Comand sat-nav/phone/CD changer, an iPod connection, xenon lights, 7-seats, auto lights/wipers, etc. Which is enough for me! Faults. The brilliant brake-by-wire SBC controller packed up - luckily under warranty as it's £280 + 3 hours labour. I had the gear-changes re-set as for some reason they were a little jerky from cold (and yes, the tranny fluid had been changed). -
Swift Review 30 Apr 2006 (Forum)
The gearbox deserves special mention - its one of the best I've ever used - very slick with a short throw. Clutch is not so good - the bite point is too high IMHO. Brakes are fine - no comment really (Suzuki use ATE 4-channel ABS system). Plenty of kit - the built in CD stereo is a Panasonic and sounds fine. Keyless entry does what its supposed to - but I find them a bit of a gimmick really. -
Honda Jazz - Update 20 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I wanted to trade in the wifes 1994 Escort 1.6 LX which, according to the guides, had a trade value of £300 and a private value of about £500. I think I would be damned lucky to get £500 privately for it as the brakes are awful, the power steering whines and generally it's unpleasant to drive. Knowing this I just steamed into the dealer and thought I would take the pee a little and offered my car in part ex and £9k cash. -
Big Brother Speed Limiters 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The system detects whether the driver is responding to the new limit. If not, the car will begin braking automatically some 300 yards before the 30mph sign. Drivers taking part in the trial will be able to override the system in an emergency, for example to accelerate out of danger. It is not known, however, if an override would be included if the device was approved for general use. -
Nerves frayed and shot 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
She was very feisty, she used a shopping trolley to block me and push her way in front and then do a series of brake tests and slow manouevres. Good for her. So I'm sitting here, trying to calm down, glass in hand, I just thought i'd relay the sorry tale of my driving day, perhaps as some form of therapy. The glow from the (several shots of) vodka has kicked in (and eased the pain of breaking a headlight in my adventures, and possibly the exhaust which is now growling). -
Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec 2011 - Bought very dodgy used car 9 Oct 2019 (Forum)
The rear cross-member is badly bent, indicating that the car has been involved in an accident, probably a rear-end shunt, and whoever has attempted repair has decided not to replace this. 3. Both rear wheels will not move without being driven. Either the brake shoes are stuck, or there is a problem with the wheel bearings. 4. Knocking noise is evident in the car, intermittently. Inspection reveals a badly deteriorating gearbox engine mount 5. The air conditioning condenser is leaking badly. -
Audi Q2 - first 1,000 miles 25 May 2018 (Forum)
And there's an indescribably good feeling that never again will I have to reach for the parking brake down by my right knee. I still prefer a manual handbrake, but this one comes on and off automatically when you stop and start, and is doing its best to convert me. It's mostly very well furnished inside, although the door cards feel hard and basic, with a fine high driving position and very supportive seats. -
MINI Cooper S - New Mini Cooper SD (2014) 20 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I had always said I'd never have a Mini, but when the missus was upgrading hers I test drove both the new Cooper S and Cooper SD in that order, the Cooper S was fun and made all the nice popping noises however, I disliked how you had to drive it at high revs to enjoy the car, when I test drove the SD I regretted losing the sound of the exhaust but the performace absolutely made me fall for this car over the S. The Cooper SD is massively torquey at around 360-400 torque and around 180 brake (every website say differently) the car comes with a 2 litre twin turbo engine providing you with loads of poke that NEVER struggles, even up steep hills at 45 mph the car is screaming for 6th gear and still provides plenty of torque. -
citroen xsara picasso 2002 - Unsure if i should still buy.. 1 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Forgot to check the stereo and windows/lights. He also said he had recently put new brake pads in which is why they were squeaking slightly when used, should I be concerned about this? 99,500 mileage, is this a bit too much? Am I likely to start getting expensive repair bills past the 100k miles mark? -
Review Fiat Doblo 2002 JTD "the Fault-Master" 13 Apr 2010 (Forum)
It might have been due to those narrow front tyres locking and skittering at most modest speeds when braking on damp roads on a nearby minor road downhill stretch - where you have to halt before passing under a bridge. Never has much power (200nm) carried so much weight - through such skinny tyres - and only lasted 7,000 miles - since Julius Ceasar attempted to invade Scotland with Black Pudding as tyres on his chariot. -
Big cars: further to fall? And what would YOU do? 22 Oct 2008 (Forum)
s starting to want parts: the last service bill included £450 for suspension and engine-mount bushes and the dealer also wants to replace some other oily underparts and ? gasp ? the original brake pads. Then there?ll be the timing belt to do at the next one; it could easily add up to £1,000 in the next six months. So ? at last ? the question. Have I already had the best the S60 has to offer in terms of low-input, comfortable, economical travel? -
Renault Laguna III (2007 - ) - impressions 9 Apr 2008 (Forum)
t seem to sharpen up as you press on like the Mondeo though the ride is very good and the overall ride handling balance is fine. Brakes - excellent though squeak on initial application just like our Clio does sometimes, must be coincidence. Didn't measure economy. Would I buy one? The pre facelift Laguna II tourer was, rather is, a very handsome car though does not have a great reputation for reliability, the Laguna III is not quite as good looking though if it can achieve Clio and Megane reliability levels then a tourer would appeal. -
Accident, but Ins. policy cancelled 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
When she went to turn into her intended exit, she checked to her left and saw the car which had been behind was trying to undertake her, so she veered on round the roundabout towards the right hand exit and braked to slow down. The following car was driving faster than her, and the rear OS wing on the following car collided with the front NS wing on Ann's car. The police who attended the scene apparently said that both drivers contributed to the accident, i.e. that neither was solely at fault.
