  • 2007 Passat 2.0TDi (PD140) - PD140 wont start 27 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Has anyone experienced anything similar and does anyone have any suggestions where to continue looking for the fault. The last switch to check is the brake light switch and this will be done today. I will be taking the spare key to them this afternoon in desperation (maybe the current key “lost” its coding?). Sorry for the long post, but I am desperate for any help.
  • Peugeot 307 2. 0 HDI Xsi 136 - PEUGEOT 307 HDI HOT STALLING? 25 Sep 2012 (Forum)
When the car get up to running temperature the car will stall unless the accelerator is depressed. As you may guess this makes usual journeys very difficult as I have to attempt to brake while keeping revs up so as to not to stall, unless of course im on a hill and can bump the car. After two different mechanics looking at it no answers can be found. No errors are recorded and the car drives perfectly while running and after being bumped just will not idle when hot.
  • 2005 Audi A4 - Audi A4 issues, should I pursue costs against deal 29 May 2012 (Forum)
It was sold with service history and 6 months warranty, in fact the ad said just had major service. I spent £180 on the car replacing rear brake pads and aircon pressure sensor. Also needed fluids topped up, so didn't look much like a serviced car. There is no documentary evidence of this history and I have over the last few months attempted to get this from the dealer.
  • Renault Clio RT 1998 petrol - Whirs, clunks and crunches on Renault Clio :-( 6 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Firstly, she has a whirring sound that comes from her engine when slowing right down from speed - when she comes to a stop, the whir comes from under the bonnet, like something winding down - lasts about 5 seconds, gradually fading out. My boyf thinks maybe the clutch? Also just noticed that turning round a corner (braking and downshifting from 4th to 2nd) she was a bit crunchy - she can be a bit crunchy trying to get her into 1st (especially block changing from 3rd, but also from 2nd). Also, when doing a tight turn, there's a 'thunk' from the back left (I think) when I release the steering from full lock - worried the steering rack is on the way out or a problem with the bearings.
  • VW Golf GTi 1.8t 2001 petrol - VW Golf Emissions light on and off? 9 Jul 2010 (Forum)
This afternoon with the fault cleared by itself I hooked up my fault code reader and downloaded the following faults (no warning lights on dash showing) 16955 P0571 Brake Light Switch - implausible signal 17536 P1128 Fuel Trim; Bank 1 - system to lean 17705 P1297 Pressure Drop Between Turbo and Throttle Valve Any ideas why my Exhaust Emissions Light has been coming on?
  • Honda Accord Tourer (2003 - 2008) - at 100 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Saying that, there?s a lot of motorway miles on there, so it?s not that impressive. I?m on my 3rd set of front brake pads if that helps put it in context? Probably a neutral point at best. Bad? Well the faults have been minor but Honda are not good at fault finding. A shocking total of 9 (yes, nine) weeks off the road from new.
  • Toyota Prius III (2009 - ) - Impressions of the new Prius 29 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The Prius has far more room in the back than most competitors: the boot is shallowish (because of the need to store the batteries) but it's enough, and there is a big under-floor compartment for laptops etc. Cristicisms - not much. I don't like the foot-operated parking brake, although at least it's mechanical and not electronic. It's not easy to find in a hurry, and there really is nothing wrong with a normal handbrake. And I'd prefer a wheel to adjust the seat backrest angle.
  • private buyer long term diesel / lpg choice ? 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
road tax here is based on power output only so all approx 170 euros tax per year apart from dealer lpg coversions TAX FREE. which will be best, safest and last at least 10 years, hopefully more. after warranty runs out will do most basic servicing ( oils, filters, brake pads) at home so chain drive camshaft is one less worry. depreciation is a different beast over here, people keep cars much longer and used car values are much higher. MONEY is TIGHT so running costs very important.
  • Bulgarian Motoring Observations 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Very hilly, windy roads and sometimes you will come up against a lorry filled with logs, pulling a trailer filled with logs, struggling to do 5 mph up these hills and the same down due to lack of brakes! Meanwhile every one is overtaking on blind bends....... Fuel is about 2 lev a litre, approx 90p. LPG is available for approx 40p a litre.
  • Learners buying brand new cars - why? 15 Jun 2009 (Forum)
My dad just keeps going on about how I am spoilt with my 10 year old car because his first car only ran on 3 cylinders, needed 1 litre of oil a week, had no brakes etc etc. Also I know this just because I am an enthusiast but what is the fun in having a brand new car for a first car? Half the fun is the tinkering and seeing how long you can keep a ten year old car looking like its fresh out the factory for.
  • Rode a Deauville today - rambling post alert 21 May 2009 (Forum)
A low seating position and a feeling of unshakeable stability making cornering more of an effort than the V-Strom. Was it the ABS making the front brakes feel like hard work? A nice plush ride and lots of v-twin urge once I had got used to the high first gear and heavy clutch. No wind at all behind the nicely designed screen and a delicious precision feel to the gearbox.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 TDCi Split pipe 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Allright troops.... Divvy question time I've had a hell of a time with my Diesel Mondeo - clutches failed (£850), brakes binding (£104), air con stopped working (split pipe) (Quoted £310+ VAT), PAS handling like a bag o pink fluffy dice - £££££££££££££ - anyway (funny all of these happen after I take them in to a garage for a different thing to be fixed) I got my motor back a week ago from a local garage - needed pads...
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - Thinking of selling my C3 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Then one by one things going wrong - I've had to call RAC out 4 times in just over a year. Last week I spent £350 on my car giving it new wheels and new brakes etc etc. Only for it to break down 2 days later costing me another £90. I'm just about at the end of my tether. I'm thinking about trying to sell it (its got everything new on it now - it can't have anything else wrong with it - but I've had enough!)
  • Audi A6 + RS6 (1997 - 2004) - 1998 2.5tdi Quattro tiptronic - Gearbox 18 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I put my footdown which took the 5 speed auto which was in 4th down to 3rd, the revs increased as I went past it got close to 4000rpm so some way off the redline when I felt like I was going to go through the windscreen, the power failed massively, I pressed harder on the accelerator and the car slowed even more causing a problem as the car behind me saw no brake lights and had no idea of the deceleration. In the end I let go of the accelerator the car jumped up into 4th and away I went. I tried this again the next day and noticed that when I get to 4000rpm there is a loss of power, if I keep my foot down on the accelerator the rpms drop and the car slows down by a good 20mph and black smoke comes from the back of the car until i let go when the gear goes back up and all is normal.
  • Recent purchase - obtaining a refund? 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
This was only the start of it, I took the car to another garage to let them have a look at it,they told me the car would not pass an MOT and should not be on the road. Corroded brake pipes, corroded disks and only working at 20% at the back, rear suspension bushes the list goes on and on. 5 major things would stop it from passing the MOT and the head gasket was on top of all that.
  • My first BMW... 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It drives very well, the engine is smooth, It's had a service (friendly back street garage did six plugs, oil , fueland air filters, brake fluid and coolant, plus fixed a dodgy earth to the number plate light) for £120 all in, and found no other issues. I'm not at all convinced by the 119k mileage though; it has service history up to 88k in 2001 and since then, nothing.
  • Cars easier to service, DIY declining 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Regarding the former, I started DIY with cars of late 50s design and the time, effort and skills needed then, in the early 60s were considerable. The following ( manual brake adjustment/tappets/head removal/decokes/lapping in valves//greasing/contactbreakers/frequent spark plug replacement/HT leads/distributercap/dealing with structural rust), are no longer part of the regular DIY of contemporary cars Some current car *engines* are only oil and filter changes (Servicing for the actual engine at routine services) .
  • 2004 C-Max 2.0 TDCi fueling probs 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Bought the car from one of the {edit by DD} large car supermarkets and was initially pleased with the car. After a week or so the wife said it was driving "like it had the hand brake on" during that day but was ok now. Put that down to her not liking the 6 speed box/woman driver. Week later it did it to me....severe power loss but no engine management or warnings shown. Turned it off then back on and working fine but getting suspicious.
  • Yamaha MT01 1670cc V-twin. 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
s range though the torque curve is very flat so it is probably producing 90% of that at less than 2000 rpm. One result of a large engine in a bike is huge engine braking, useful for rolling on/off the throttle over-takes though I reckon it would be easy to lock the back wheel by going down one gear to many on a wet, greasy road. Although in car terms probably nothing would stay with it to 100 mph or more, and safe overtaking is just a flick of the wrist, through the gears it feels a little flat compared to four cylinder 1000cc plus bikes simply because the power drops of as it nears the 5500 rpm red line, just where a four cylinder bike would be really getting going.
