  • America Unchained 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
On a later breakdown they were even towed 10 miles by a passing pick up driver who took pity on them, and continued to do so even after it appeared the Torino accidentally hit the back of his pick up as the Ford brakes were not that efficient. Personally is a film would recommend to other backroomers, just to witness the complete change of attitude between the UK and USA in customer service, and treating complete strangers as old long lost friends.
  • I must be having some sort of crisis. 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It reminds me in all the good ways of my '00 V-reg Mk II Punto Sporting - but with more poke, way better brakes and even sharper handling. I didn't think in this day and age any car could put a silly grin on my face just driving to work and back, but this one does. That is all :-) ------ Edit: I know what date it is, and no this isn't.
  • Random starting problems with MK3 Fiesta 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
N reg 1.1 Kent engine with fuel injection. Anyway I took it for the MOT in June and amazingly it passed with only a seized rear brake cylinder causing it to fail. The machanic but some stop smoke in to get it through the MOT and it passed on the emissions no problem. A few weeks later the oil warning light came on so I decided to switch from 15/30 to 15/40 as I got sick of the blue smoke and this actually cured it, it still burns oil but nothing like as much and there is no smoke at all now.
  • Pug 205GTi 1.6 - Low tickover & cut out. 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
t right, it can sort itself out with a bit of persuasion from my right foot gently lifting the revs, however, when we're tottering down the road together and we come to some traffic lights, I apply the brake and the revs drop off and she cuts out. Now most of you are probably thinking it?s the idle valve, but there?s something else to add to the mix, at night, when the headlights are on, or I?ve got the wipers on, it?
  • mk2 Mondeo TD driveshaft removal probs. 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Done so far: Hubnut slackened Jacked and supported. Anti-roll bar droplink disconnected from strut. Caliper off and tied up out of the way, and brake disc removed Track rod end balljoint split. ABS sensor removed and tied up out of the way. Strut top mount slackened 5 turns or so. Bottom balljoint split. Hubnut removed. Driveshaft outer joint pressed back through hub (this was SERIOUSLY tight), and free of obstruction.
  • Mk1 Leon temp gauge & fuel gauge 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I ask that last bit because firstly it may add to the cost, secondly I don't fancy enduring the rattles and squeaks of poorly replaced trim etc afterwards. Something else happened with the brake pads/disks which I'll post about elsewhere, so I'm feeling a bit glum about my car right now - hoping it doesn't fall prey to any more electronic gremlins ... TIA -- andymc Vroom, vroom - mmm, doughnuts ...
  • What price 5* Ncap crash protection 30 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I wont go into details of the how the accident happend, but the result was that RF goona was struck at approx 35 to 40 mph by a 38 seat single deck bus. The Bus T-Boned the goona just in front of the A post (without me braking it would have been through the drivers door). The bus driver was trapped in the bus and had to be cut free. 3 ambulances, two fire engines, and the Leicestershire air ambulance landed in the field next door.
  • ..and then this helicopter just appeared 14 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The only hassle was with having to get back in to fasten the seatbelt and depress the clutch in order to start the car, and then press the footbrake to release the electronic parking brake :-( I guess I was very lucky, as there are just two small dents in the body work, which dent masters should be able to deal with. The car was only 4 weeks old. I've had 4 cars from new, and each has had an incident withing the first month.
  • "Medical" vans 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I probably didn't pull over as soon as I could of, but I was worried that if I moved from my lane or touched the brakes to pull into a gap he would have hit me. He was that close. Definitely the worst bit of driving I have seen in a long while. This section of the A34 is stop-start at the best of times and I don't believe he could have stopped without hitting me if the traffic ahead had slowed suddenly.
  • Lunatic on M1 6 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I had to take action to avoid a collision and, at that point, began to wonder what I was dealing with. The BMW pulled in front of me and the driver braked, fortunately, not too hard. At that point he decided against further stupidity. I stayed well away from him as he drove on in front of me but I noticed that he carried on with his strategy of going past vehicles on the inside and then pulling out in front of them.
  • Front end shunt: cheap repairs? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I've just been involved in a shunt. I drove into the back of another car, going at 35 mph through some roadworks. The other party braked suddenly when they saw a police car with flashing lights waiting to emerge from a side road. My fault, driving too close. Damage to other party (newish Peugeot 306) was dented boot. My N-reg Nissan Micra is all bashed in at the front.
  • Which? Reliability survey - Vol 2. 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
\"Switch off the ignition, restart the car and if the alarm has gone then it\'s a false alarm\" After 3 sets of steering wheel stalks, 2 replacement Control Units, 3 brake light switches etc etc etc I was handed the car and asked to \"see how I get on\" \"Have you fixed it?\" I ask. \"No\" is the answer. I kept their courtesy car and told the dealership that I would return it when they provided a solution. 15 minutes later the MD is on the phone to me and we are talking at last.
  • Cutting out when idling - Merc C240 12 May 2004 (Forum)
It has only ever happened when I\'m in a queue, and when the engine\'s about three quarters warmed up. Typically, I\'ll be stopped, foot on brake (selector in \'drive\') and the engine just cut out, all dash lights on, and no engine. If I select Park, switch off and restart, the engine starts again instantly. It cut out this morning, but on this occasion the engine was nearly up to temperature and it took about three or four seconds to start. whatever, on every occasion, the car\'s worked fine afterwards - until it happens again.
  • New Fiesta 2003 startup failure! 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
If you have the same car you would ofcourse know but, I will write again for those who may not know. To start the car you must: 1 - Position the shift at neutral 2 - Press brake 3 - Ignate Tonight I have tried for 30 times and it started fine, I will try some more now. This is something I have to solve because Ford mechanics are aware of the problem since last year from the first owner and I don\'t expect them to know any better.
  • Hell is other drivers... 22 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Here are a few of my pet hates, although the drivers vary in sex and age, in parentheses are the normal violators 1) Those that change lanes without indicating (company car drivers) 2) Those that speed round roundabouts (strangely enough, MPVs) 3) Those that drive far too slowly for no reason (varies) 4) Those that drive an inch off your rear bumper (vans) 5) Those that speak on mobiles and drive with one hand whilst wearing sunglasses on overcast days (yep, salesmen) 6) Those selfish gits that wait until the last second before changing into the filter lane to come off motorways (varies) 7) Those that enter a roundabout in the wrong lane and change without indicating whilst on it (Salesmen/Company car drivers) 8) Lorries that race each other on motorways, despite the fact it takes several miles to pass each other. (erm - lorries) 9) Those that drive in spurts and slam their brakes on (small cars or estates usually) 10)Those that block entire lanes whilst dropping off one child 100 yards from where they live (Landrovers, anyone?) 11)Those whose life will end if they don't weave to and fro between lanes in heavy traffic to gain an extra 10 yards
  • FWD transmission noise? 13 Jun 2002 (Forum)
It never occurs when the accelerator is not pressed, regardless of speed or amount of steering applied, and this applies whether the car is under engine braking or coasting. The volume/noticeability generally increases as the amount of lock and/or speed increases. Interestingly, the noise also only seems to be resent once the car is warmed up. When driving in slippery conditions recently, the same noise was made when the front wheels accelerated at different speeds without any steering lock applied - so it may be related to the front wheels turning at different speeds, just as they do when turning, particularly in tight circles.
  • TuningBox for Diesels 21 Jun 2001 (Forum)
So I now have a two litre diesel car with nigh-on 130BHP and 330Nm of torque (It's the +60Nm torque that gives the car the performance boost) I just need better brakes now.......... Any of you sceptics out there, go to their website at www.tuningbox.com - it's full of performance data & information etc. The car will be performance-tested on a rolling road soon to see the 'real' gains.
  • Car accident insurance advice 29 Jan 2018 (Forum)
The above case confirms that if a driver of a lead vehicle unexpectedly stops the driver of the following vehicle may not be at all at fault for running into the back of the stopping vehicle. In Gussman v Gratton-Storey the Defendant applied her brakes violently in order to avoid hitting a pheasant running across the road. The driver behind was unable to stop and collided with the Defendant’s vehicle. The Defendant was held liable so in this case the sudden stop was in effect held to be unreasonable.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - How long can an average petrol car run for? 24 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Since then we've had a number of things fixed on it - we've had new exhaust, clutch, radiator, timing belt, water pump, spring, brake pads, brake discs, shock absorbers, etc. We have it serviced usually once a year and every year it just flies through it's MOT.  The only thing that ever seems to come up on the MOT is when the tyres need changing.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - Diesel Problem Vol2 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
The stalling is not that serious but it could be. The loss of power which until you re-cycle the ignition means that the brakes and steering are much less effective which downhill on a bend leading up to a busy road might cause a scare. Along with all of the other reports on this website I think Renault really should be obliged to make these stalling problems a safety recall.
