  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2003 3.0 CDTI Automatic Gearbox Problem 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Basically, the car drives fine, pick's up speed as usual and the rest. Only when I lift of from stand still and when applying the foot brake, there is a slight judder in the gear change, especially in 1st and 2nd. I have been advised that the gearbox is knackered and that it's on it's way out. When connecting to the BOSCH KTS no gearbox fault code's come up.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.4 Zetec Stalling Problems when slowing down. 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I bought it second hand a couple of years ago and have had trouble free motoring until now. Whenever I begin braking and press the clutch the rev's quickly drop below 500rpm. It doesn?t matter what gear it is in. The car begins to feel like it is going to stall and on occasion it does. Say if I am driving around town (London) for 30mins it will stall once or twice.
  • MOT preperations - what do you do? 30 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Last year I was advised (I do a lot of fishing) that if my vehicle had of been any muddier underneath - they would have refused to test it - so all the wheels have been off and a low pressure water jet has been used to clean the under chassis. All of the brakes have been stripped, cleaned, re assembled and the handbrake has been adjusted too. Within the engine compartment, the plugs & the air filter have been out and cleaned and the engined compartment has been 'mizzed' and low pressure cold water jet cleaned.
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 cutting out at junctions etc 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Heard so much about this problem for a long time, read all the forums, nothing definate to fix problem, throttle bodys being replaced putting the fault right and also not putting the fault right. This partiucular clio has had a map sensor, lamda sensor, wiring to ecu repaired, coil pack, brake switch totalling £600. I got it today, and after some time spent on it, i am convinced its the throttle body. the fault is intermittant, can run perfect for a good while the suddenly at the next junction, stalls, light flashes on, revs up nad down.
  • Porsche Cayenne (2003 - ) - fairly unusual sighting logorrhoeic narcissis cut 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Best of all, it made a quite nice tinny blatting sound from the exhaust and showed good acceleration and braking in the stop-start (very important that for you dozy provincial types). Still it was a stretch and therefore beyond the pale (long chassis standard models are the longest cars a proper enthusiast will stand for IMFFHO).
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 53 plate 1.4TDCI - Is poor MPG reason to worry? 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The reviews I had heard state that the MPG on this model was amazing with 50mpg plus expected combined (My friend gets around 65mpg) Now, I am 26 and have had some powerful cars in the past (prior to a family) and I am at times prone to braking late and revving where I shouldn't...........although I don't think I'm any worse than anyone else. For the last 3 months I've been getting on average around 35mpg. I travel to work each day on the motorway and my journey takes an hour and so cold engines aren't an issue.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 06 1.9CDTi automatic gearbox - jerky changes. 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
This only happened when under load and from 6th to 5th or 5th to 4th, but not on the overrun, i.e. changing down under braking, or when just slowing down. On one occasion I used manual override to change from 6th to 5th and I was left with no drive to the wheels, the engine on maximum revs (it was in cruise control) and doing 70mph in the outside lane.
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - Mercedes C-class 'rattly' suspension 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I'm convinced it's a disc pad since it happens predominantly on slightly broken ground (like imperfect gravelled tarmac with missing chunks) - & goes completely if I apply (or even touch) the brakes. I've had it 'checked' in 2 independent garages (the last franchise dealer service highlighted their inadequacy so haven't returned to them) who found nothing except for wheel bearing adjustment for that wheel.
  • Would you stop for anyone these days? 27 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Trouble was it had become second nature to just pop bulbs in for people...... Then there was the bloke who pretended to be broken down.... I put the brakes on after those last incidents which followed on from each other and now won`t stop for anyone unless its the immediate neighbors.
  • That's one less thanks to me. 8 Dec 2007 (Forum)
What surprises me was that although I witnessed him nearly collide with 3 cars and other cars had to brake when they seen him swerving all over the place, it appears from the report that I was the only one that rang in. Although I am pleased they have not contacted me since as a witness to the manner of his driving I was surprised they did not, or is it sufficient evidence just to rely on the blood alcohol results.
  • Mist & Thick Tailgaters 28 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I imagine that they would be nice to eat, but I could imagine chewing raw flesh, feathers and bits of windscreen at 40 mph. I braked quite sharply to avoid them and then left the following two cars, tailgaters both, had to sort out the affair with their insurance companies by themselves.
  • Motorway drivers 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Drove down Saturday night from Manchester at about 7:30pm and had a lovely journey, with the cruise control set on about 74mph. It was a very relaxing drive, with almost no need to touch brake pedal or even accelerator, until I got to Luton for the contraflow. Then I came upon idiocy of the highest order, with people switching lanes, getting up your backside, speeding up and slowing down unnecessarily.
  • Ford Fiesta Mk 4 Diesel Clutch probs 25 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The real problems occur in rush hour traffic, where I discover that if I do not take my foot off the clutch completely every time I pull away, it returns less and less until my foot is on the floor, clutch completely deployed yet I can't get it into gear (or out of it .. which is interesting when you are trying to get out of a parking space in reverse!) unless I turn off the engine, put the hand brake on and flick the pedal all the way back up with my foot. Bizarrely it keeps "fixing" itself, working fine for days then doing it again. Obviously there is something going wrong somewhere. Checked the fluid which seems fine.
  • AA Warranty - Worth it? 17 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I just had a cold call from AA warranties tonight and for the first time ever, have actually bought one. The gist of the policy is that it covers everything except:- Brakes Tyres Windscreen Exhaust All of the electrics, engine components and other greasy bits are covered. The cost is £21 per month over 24 months for 2 years cover at 0% APR. (Total cost £525 inluding deposit) I can take the car to any garage that I want, and am covered for problems occuring whilst away from home with associated recovery costs etc.
  • Mondeo TDCi - Uneven power delivery. 12 Jun 2007 (Forum)
All fine and good but now it will happily pull till 2800RPM and then it feels like i have my foot on the brake. Other times it lets me accelerate to over 100mph (on a private test road) but them when i get past 100 the power is lost again. I notice if i press the accelerator very lightly i can sometimes tease the car to accelerate.
  • Unsure what to do now.. 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hello, if you read the tech notes you might have read that i brought a proton coupe off my mate who had had it on his drive for the last 8 months, anyhow was intending to fix the brakes on the rear, handbrake not working then valet and sell for a tiny profit, any way, i got it back home saturday after picking it up and it drove really well, not sure why i was suprised for an S reg, any way did the valet, looked nice cleaned the recaro's up lovely then proceeded to take it the petrol station when half way there at 40mph realised i had not shut the bonnett, so it flew up demoloshing the windscreen and bending the bonnett quite bad.
  • cheapskates! 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
greetings all, had a friend of mine pop into the workshop today to ask me for some advice. he said the front end of his type R was squelling under braking. straight away i noticed the discs were starting to score so as a looked through the wheel i noticed there was no material to be seen on the pads. i said i'd get a price on new discs and pads for him. now his R has had extensive mods professionally done to the suspension and engine so as a result he fitted some EBC REd pads fitted onto the standard discs. suffice to say that the discs have been hammered by the red pads. any way i came back with, what i thought were reasonable prices: pads £35, discs £85. all in , inc the dreaded, it came to £131. i got back to him and he asked if i could check the discs thinkness' and if they were warped. so the discs were ok, but they were down to 23.5mm. he phoned honda they said they allow wear down to 19mm. he says pink fluffy dice it i'll just do the pads. my point is if you are going to have a fast car why skrimp on the maintenence especially if you are trying to seel it. i once owned a mint '90 sapph cosworth that ran a measured 298 BHP @ the whhels. never did i skrimp. what's wrong with people?
  • Handbrake Calamity 21 May 2007 (Forum)
The handbrake was on (most definitely, checked when I got in the car to reverse it back up the drive) but I had not put the car in gear. It is possible that the brake was not pulled right up to the limit as I have always understood this is bad for it but it was certainly almost there. Should I go back to mini or is this due to the fact that I did not put the car in gear.
  • Farewell faithful VW 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
With a spare set of wheels and Vredestein M & S tyres we had some real adventures over the years, and at yesterdays MOT it only needed new pads and brake pipes. On a long test drive today ...it ran smooth as silk, incorporating furniture removal for a friend...no point in wasting diesel, and over the years returned a consistent 30/35 mpg with absolutely no oil needed between changes.
  • Lost locking wheelbolt key - 2004 Vectra 23 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Put everything away EXCEPT for the alloy wheel lock key.I THINK I have left it on the wheel and drove off.Cannot find it anywhere.I AM fortunate that I do have the key number but strangely/convenviently the key itself is actually more expensive than a brand new FULL SET ????? The problem being that the lead time for delivery is between 7-14 days.My brakes need addressed now. My key number was 115.Is there anyone out there that would allow me to borrow their key to get my wheels off.I will pay all th eP P and will throw in the lock nuts, once off,as spares. For peace of mind, I want to replace them with a new set,I just need to get mine off 1st.
