  • Honda Civic - Is this car worth considering? 8 May 2019 (Forum)
Current seller says that it was because the previous seller and he parted on bad terms, When the current owner discovered after the sale that the brakes were worn, he requested previous seller to repair it at his garage at a discounted price. But the previous owner refused to take any calls or answer texts. I then tried to call the main branch of AJ Autos in Deal, to confirm previous ownership of the car.
  • Suzuki Swift - Bought used car, having issues and need advice! 26 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I agreed. I went to collect my friend this evening and stalled on a hill (whoops! haha). Foot brake went on, handbrake went up so I could do a hill start. Expect the handbrake isn't holding the car at all. I pulled the handbrake as high as I could and it rolled regardless (friend took a video out of disbelief).
  • Mercedes-Benz SportCoupé Kompressor - Too Shiny For Me 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I don't like driving other peoples shiny cars, and once they'd seen me do it (havn't driven an automatic for a long time and tended to confuse the brakes with the non-existent clutch pedal. The brakes are VERY good.) they didn't either, so there was no high-speed freeway demonstration of the problem.  There MIGHT have been a bit more steering free-play than I'd expect, but what do I know?
  • none - The case against electric vehicles. 3 Jan 2016 (Forum)
While the electric car emits fewer particles than the thermal car, since it does not have a muffler, but it has good brakes, tires and rolling on the tarmac! In the end, the electric car is not more environmentally friendly than the thermal car.
  • Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi PD Ambiente - Turbo Failure VAG (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda)1.9TDi PD 12 Aug 2012 (Forum)
THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE! There is no warning at all, then complete loss of engine power, brakes & steering. I would like to know if anyone has experienced similar issues with early turbo failure. I personally would NEVER buy ANY VAG car again! David.

  • Prius Becomes Self-aware -Crashes Itself 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
He was taking it back to the dealership when suddenly the car began accelerating even though he applied the brakes and the emergency brake. "I could not stop the car. Because of its design I couldn't shift into neutral," Robinson said. "It happened so fast I didn't have time to be scared then," Robinson said.
  • Almera woes 4 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Steering vibration which took approx 18 months to fix, and only appeared AFTER the main dealer replaced the brake pads. t was only diagnosed after the 'nissan technical specialist' from Sunderland came down to check it out that I was told that it was dirt on the wheel hub which was making the wheel sit incoorectly on the hub, hence giving a 'flat spot' on the tyres and causing a vibration.
  • 1999 Passat Electrics, niggles 17 Sep 2004 (Forum)
A few different questions here. Shortly after I bought my Passat in March of last year, the bulb in the left brake light blew. Although I have the technical expertise of a crumbling brick, I worked out how to detach the light cluster and replace the bulb. A couple of months ago, I noticed that the same brake light was out again.
  • Renault Clio E-tech hybrid - Impressions after the first 1000 miles 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Renault say that the maximum distance the car will travel in EV mode is under 2 miles. The 1.2kW traction battery is charged when decelerating or braking, there is no facility to plug into the mains. In spite of this, nearly half of the first 1000 miles has been covered in EV mode. The data log reads Total distance 1004.6 miles Distance travelled in electric mode 470.1 miles Average fuel consumption 54.7mpg Average electric consumption 8.9miles/ kWh Total recuperated energy 48.6kWh Average speed 21.9 mph  Without electrical assistance, a 1.6 petrol automatic like this would probably return around 30mpg on a good day (purely a guess).
  • Kia Sportage - Kia Sportage Top Mounts 16 Feb 2024 (Forum)
However, dealer says not covered under warranty as apparently this is a wear and tear issue, which begs the question, what’s the benefit of Kia’s 7 year warranty over say VW’s 3 year warranty if items like this aren’t covered. If this was brake pads or discs, bulbs, wipers etc I could understand these are items with a limited life, but would have assumed a suspension component would be covered by the warranty. So whilst it did pass the MOT, having a car that makes a twanging clunk to the extent that I can feel it through the steering wheel and it can be heard outside the car is not ideal.

  • Mazda 2 - What is the point of keyless start? 19 Dec 2022 (Forum)
I would have thought that with technology these days that the computer would shut down the engine or apply the brakes in such circumstances. My Hyundai i30 flashes up a message on the dash that the key isn’t present when I get out to deice the windscreen. I find the notion of keyless start so disconcerting when my wife can drive for over 20 miles without the key present with the risk that stalling the engine could have left her stranded in the middle of rush hour traffic.
  • Ford Fiesta 2016 1.25L - Suspected exhaust valve issue - advice on actions 30 Aug 2022 (Forum)
EML came on - took to garage to do a diagnostics and they confirmed that there is poor compression in the 3rd brake cylinder.  They suspect it is an exhaust valve issue and the engine would need to be stripped out to confirm. They have estimated that the work could amount to around £1k with the other cylinders being replaced, a new water pump and a timing belt.
  • Any - After market warranties 9 Jan 2022 (Forum)
His reason for this refusal was the "hassle" he mentioned above, and the fact that he couldn't be absolutely sure about the extent of the work required  on the car until he'd dismantled the defective braking system.  So I was left with the option of having the work done at the warranty company's recommended garage--an unknown quantity-- or using the MOT garage, who could do the work right away, and who have a good reputation locally.
  • Ford Fiesta - A week with a new Fiesta Ecoboost mild hybrid 16 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Pros:  it really does go, all that power & torque in a 1200kg car means it's amusingly rapid.  Hybrid system is very mild, you notice the regenerative braking much more than any assistance from the starter / generator (apart from the below).  Tidy handling, the steering is really direct with very little understeer.  It also corners nice and flat.
  • Volkswagen Golf 2.0TDI 2011 - Are my wheels sticking out too much? 19 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I have checked the wheel alignment in a professional shop with lasers and stuff, and checked all the brakes, they are not dragging. The MPG drop happened precisely after the wheel change, and I calculate using the pump figures and odometer, not the trip computer. Also I compared the odometer to a GPS route tracker, it's spot on, so it's not the increased wheel size messing with the mileage.
  • Ford Mondeo Diesel Mk3, 2002 227k Miles - Ford Mondeo Mk3 Cutting Out At Random 16 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Was a lot of oil on the front of the engine and i suspected a bad electrical connection because of the oil. Then sprayed liberal amounts of brake cleaner to remove the oil. The problem went away for a day.It then came back. Was gutted. Went to spray the oiled area again and whilst moving the wires around that were attached to the block connector at the back of the main diesel pump all of a sudden i noticed one of the wires in fresh air .
  • Golf mk5 1.9 tdi, 2008, 150k miles - Weird sound from engine bay. 21 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I am looking for advice or clue on internet first as I've already spent some money on this car fixing the things that you would expect to work well when buying from a dealer (like faulty brake system). Yes, I shouldn't buy a car on my own, but I had no choice :/ Can you help?
  • Peugeot 207 tdi sport 2007 - abs system faulty 7 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hello if you are reading this you are my last hope.... I bought a Peugeot 207tdi sport (07) and when driving a few days later the brakes felt odd, like my foot went ALL the way to the floor before the car finally stopped. Then moments later, there was an ABS system fault message showing on the computer and a STOP message and abs symbol on dash behind steering wheel.
