Rover 420 SDI 2 litre turbo diesel fault 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
It will sometimes display this fault when idling by hiccuping and, when it occurs when the engine is pulling, it feels like the driver is stabbing at the brake pedal . This continues until the engine is fully up to temperature and then it runs fine for the rest of that day. Interestingly, if the engine is turned off for a short period (say 5 mins) after even just a mile or two from cold, it runs perfectly when re-started. -
MB CLS AMG. Smoking tyres. Brooklands. 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
They had an example of each AMGs except the S and the McLaren I was waiting for the SL or the SLK but just as I got to the front they had to be "rested" to cool the brakes and tyres so it was the CLS. As the driver said " it is not usual to be hustling a two ton vehicle like this" It was great value for me even if I felt the physical effects for half an hour after. -
Proton Coupe 1.8 - Been Standing 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
the back discs do not appear to be ridding themselves of the rust and the handbrake no longer works well it barely makes a contact, will not hold the car, so it seems that there is no fluid getting to the rear brakes, could this potentially be leading to major work needed on the back or is it something like a cylinder or just the fact it needs a good run? what are the other things i should look for before taking on this if the car has been stood such a while? -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 - strange noise 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It does not seem to be linked to the clutch (as it can occur when the clutch is both dis-engaged or engaged) and happens when accelerating or decelerating (although not under braking or at steady speeds) and does not seem to occur at speeds in excess of 20-25kmh. It occurs frequently (but not every time I accelerate or slow down) and is relatively easy to replicate if I drive the car in a slightly more aggressive manner (hard acceleration or low gear induced deceleration). -

Freshen up a tired Honda Accord 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I had thought of a new front windscreen as that obviously a bit scratched now. Obviously I'll have a wee look at tyres and brake pads etc, put in new air filter/ plugs etc but I do keep up with these things as a matter of course anyway. Is there anything else anyone else can think of? -
renault megane timing belt 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I have a 02 reg 16 valve 1.6 renault megane fidji. driving home tonight i heard a kinda pop noise and lost all power to the engine, brake failure etc. managed to pull over pretty quickly ( i was on the M25 crossing qe2 bridge at the time doing around 50 i guess. anyway RAC came out and to cut a long story short was told timing belt has gone. so the questions are as follows is the engine interference or non interference as i gather this could make a difference to repair costs. im a total car noob and no nothing about engines etc. what would be the best and worst case scenario on cost of repairs to this. -
How often do you perform basic checks? 14 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I tend to check fluids, bulbs and have a cursory check of tyres at some point over a weekend on both cars, although I will admit I am not religious about this. With regard to brake pad material and the like, I just work on a "will it last to the next service?" basis when I'm servicing the car. If the pads or discs look even remotely like they will need attention before the next service time, they get replaced. -
Put off any new purchase... 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
clutch, bushes, wind noise Vectra C ? coil packs, oil burning, flat spots, turbo lag, smoking, clutch A4 ? brake pipes, air con, cost to fix C Class ? rust, glow plugs on diesels, wiring looms on pre early 96 models. I?m open to petrol or diesel, have I just read too much and should accept that no car is far from perfect, on that basis should I stick with ? -
Audi 80 2.0E 1995MY 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It sounds like an unbalanced shaft, effected by different road surfaces and there is not any judder through the steering wheel or when braking. It?s difficult to tell which side it?s coming from but think it?s the NS. Should I replace the NS inner CV joint (age & 105k mls), could it be the hub bearing although there isn?t any movement or perhaps the gearbox drive flange end? -
Ka Questions 25 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Is the car likely to have ABS? The owner of a brand new Ka tells me this is a recent addition. I find the braking to be far less keen than I'm used to (I'd been warned that this is a Ka trait) but I don't suppose that's any indication. Can the car be locked from the inside? Is the boot permanently locked? -
UK's worst driving by area 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have several near misses each week. On one 7 mile jouney I had 3 near misses. Yesterday I had to brake suddenly to avoid an impact with a car pulling out of a side road. This is not unusual. I've had numerous cars use the left hand lane of 3 to turn right at a roundabout while I use lane 2 to go straight across. -
Firestone or Michelin for my car? 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
However, due to a combination of things, namely the front right tyre wearing more than I like, driving past a Police checkpoint more days than not, and this strange problem whereby if you dab or brake normally at high speeds, the wheel will shake violently (don't think it's the discs - it only does it at 80+) I've decided to replace both the fronts sometime this week. Now the place I normally go to is this little backstreet place who have seen me right in the past but only sell Firestones. -
Vectra recall 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Three times at low revs , but accelerating, in 5th ,the engine management system switched to emergency mode, which reduces revs. Put simply, you slow down, but without any external warning, eg brake lights coming on. When this happened in lane 3 of the M6 , in heavy traffic, with my daughter on board, I was very fortunate to be able to cross the three lans safely and stop . When I started again it had cleared. -

citroen AX - head gasket leaking 19 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Now, I know very little about cars, so I just wanted to ask - does his diagnosis seem reasonable, and is the price for fixing it reasonable? Is it worth doing? The rest of the machine is very tidy - just had new brake pads and tires on it, new exhaust last year, and she still does a fab 55 to the gallon. But she has just passed 100,000 miles, so.... Help!!! The "French" fight back. 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Sierra 1 3 broken drive belts, 1 broken gearbox, 1 broken starter motor. Sierra 2 2 broken drive belts, 1 broken clutch cable, 1 broken brake vacuum pump. Sierra 3 1 faulty fuel gauge, causing me to run out of fuel. I only had this vehicle for about 2 months. I then moved to a different department, didn?t need a company car, and started buying my own(used) vehicles. -
Accord Problems 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I've just returned from France, after spending three months there, and I've encountered the same problem with my Accord that I had last time. Briefly, the 20 amp fuse that protects the brake lights and horn has blown a total of 23 times! The car has been back twice to my local dealer in the UK who said he could find nothing wrong. Three weeks ago it was taken on the back of a lorry to the Honda dealer at Brive - some forty odd miles away -after blowing seven fuses in quick succession. -

Could do with feed back from some one with experienace.
