  • vectra c 1.9cdti 150 sri - rumbling noise 22 Aug 2011 (Forum)
hi, my 2006 vectra is making a rumbling type noise which starts at 30mph and then seems to dissappear above 40mph, if i then take my foot off the accelerator and start to slow down (without braking) it reappears between the 30-40 mark, its hard to describe but i can feel it as well as hear it, also occasionally when idling i can hear a swish noise from the engine bay, like, swish...swish...swish...swish...etc, someone told me its a belt?
  • Mercedes A Class - Do I need to declare this accident? 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I had my car parked in a parking lot last year and due to some issues with my hand brake the car started rolling downwards after a couple of hours and collided with another car. No one was in any of the cars when it happened. My insurance company paid out the costs as it was my car that malfunctioned.
  • Toyota Avensis - car been sitting a dealer since last July 2 May 2011 (Forum)
It needs a new battery which I have figured into the price and am going to get it inspected by someone who knows what they are doing. The brake discs are rusted, but the price is good. What do you think? The dealer is keen to move it on and I'd prefer a car that was cheaper - one that I'd get the work on it, knowing it had been done.
  • FORD ESCORT 1990 Model 1300cc - WARNING LIGHT COMES ON DASH BOARD 12 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The car manual says the red warning light  has two functions,  ie,  if the hand break is still on,  or applied, or if the brake fluid level is below line. The red warning light usually comes on if say I am going down a slope,  or hill  and I have applied  the foot break.  Also could I have a leak  as when I apply the foot break it feels slightly different in that I feel it takes slightly longer to break ?
  • Rover 75 CDT - ABS Problem 5 Apr 2011 (Forum)
From start up and moving off the ABS system kicks in then after about a minute it goes off and the light appears on the dash, normal braking but no ABS, changed the front two wheel sensors but no difference.Car has done 160,000 so i'm guessing now it's a more serious problem, i don't think it's the pump but in the book it shows ECU attached to side of the pump so i was wondering if anyone else has have a similar problem with either the Rover 75 or cars with similar ABS systems at can point me in the right direction, would a plug in at the garage indicate with a fault code what the failure is?

  • Any - Pedal size of accelerator on UK automatics, 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
If I have go  to do that just for the pedal adaptation would I not be better off forgetting about the pedals altogether and having both the  brake and accelerator on hand controls?  Why do UK automatics have such an unhelpful accelerator when North American cars I have rented have such a broad and  user friendly "gas" pedal?
  • passat estate 2L tdi DSG highline Dec.09 - Burning smell 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi John Since new I have noticed a burning rubber smell from the rear off side wheel arch. When it first happened I thought it was a stuck brake. but as it only happens now and again I forgot about it. This has occurred around 6 times and is always on a 20min+ journey.  I dont think it always happens. Have you any idea what is causing it??
  • Peugeot Servicing Cost 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My Peugeot 307 HDI (02 reg) has just had it's 24k service at a local main dealer and they charged £480, which seems very expensive to me. This included replacement of all brake pads, which came to around £200 of the bill even though they had quoted £109 when they called me to say they were worn. When I queried the price for the pads, they said it was an error on the part of the person that had phoned me and that it was 1.5 hours work, hence the cost.
  • 02 307 2.0 hdi 110 - Smoke on cold start and lumpy running 12 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It clears and is then fine except for what can only be described as a tappety noise which comes and goes but is noticable more when you slow down and use engine braking. It pulls well and there is no excessive smoke under acceleration, just this noise and the smoke on initial start up. Any help would be appreciated as im slowley losing the will to live. Has just been serviced too.
  • Peugeot 307 1.6 D - Engine Knowcking Noise afer Snow 28 Dec 2010 (Forum)
All I can add is that the frequency of the knocking increases with speed and disappears under road noise above about 30-40mph. Also, weirdly to me, at lower, noisier speeds, if I compress the brake the noise disappears immediately, i.e. before I have really decreased in speed at all. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what it might be? Thanks in advance. Col
  • Ford Focus - Smaller wheels for winter tyres 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I am considering buying some steel wheels for use with winter tyres but am unsure whether the 15" wheels will fit (my preference). This model would have had 16" wheels as standard and is fitted with 278mm front brake discs, where the models with 15" rims as standard (1.4 petrol) has 257mm front discs. I'm hoping that the 15" would still fit my car, since they seem to have masses of clearance, but is that the case?
  • Legacy or Passat - Estate car buying advice please - Subaru or VW? 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Looking for an estate with the room to lug dogs around and to tow, once a week, a horse (laden weight is 1400kg on a braked trailer). Typcal journeys weekly are short but then every couple of months there is a 500 mile round trip (no trailer) to consider, good fuel economy is therefore key for us. With a budget of up to £16/17k or thereabouts, we've narrowed it down to a Subaru Legacy Spouterourer (2.0 diesel - probably the 2008 model) or a Passat Estate (again, 2.0 tdi 170 PS) any thoughts/considerations/experience from you would be gratefully received.
  • Citroen C4 Picasso - Motabilty choice of tyres 26 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Motability authorised KwikFit to fit Marangoni Verso tyres, a budget make that I have never heard of before. On looking up the reviews on the internet, they are very badly rated for wet weather braking. I feel a bit short changed as I would have chosen Michelins as they were the original fit and feel that my safety has been compromised by fitting such a cheap tyre. Does anybody elese have experience with this make of tyre, good or bad?
  • Toyota Auris - Handbrake problems 24 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Yes we all know it should be left in gear). returned to her car to find it had rolled into a gate and stoved in the front wing. She has no problem putting the brake on. Straw poll of nosey neighbours concluded "ah yes thats because the discs were hot when parked and the pressure eased off when they cooled down" Is it feasable in this day and age that a handbrake could really be so unreliable?
