  • All - Fog light anomalies 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Oh yes... talking of headlights, why do we see so many blown bulbs on cars of today, including tail lights and brake lights.  There appears to be no enforcement on our roads. Number plates completely obscured in filth is another common and illegal sight.

  • Hyundai i10 2014 - Handbrake holding 11 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Nice car but the handbrake won't hold enough to stop the car rolling completely on our  (estimated) 1 in 10 driveway.  I have tried getting the extra notch by pressing the foot brake home with the engine running, while pulling up the handbrake (about six notches in all),  but this is still not enough.   The car has been back to the supplier who certifies all is normal.
  • Volkswagen Golf GTI - Are my running costs OK? 5 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Just passed its MOT, with advisories: 56% Rolling Brake Efficiency nearly at fail limit Wishbone bushes deteriorating Front suspension movement at top And as of a couple of days ago it crunches into second gear, other than that and the MOT its in very good shape mechanically and body wise.
  • Ford Ka 2013 - Noise when engaging clutch in reverse 11 May 2014 (Forum)
There is no noise if reversing downhill. It has been into Ford dealership 3 times and they have cleaned the brake discs - no effect. Today I returned to the dealership and drove another similar age Ka which made a similar noise but not as loud or noticeable. Has anyone else experienced this? My local dealership are now stating that this is not a fault just a noise that Kashmir make!!
  • Suzuki Alto - Charged for exhaust I didn't ask for 12 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Took my to a local garage as it was due for mot, I had a quick look noticed the brake pipes looked a bit corroded so pointed that out to them said I was in no hurry , two day later got a phone call saying it had passed but had to put a new exhaust as it had failed. I was fuming as the bill came to nearly £400.
  • Volkswagen Polo IV - Independent garage for VW servicing 27 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a reliable honestly priced independent garage for servicing a 9 year old polo. I've been getting oil/filter/brake fluid changes at the main dealership (not had anything else done like belts etc so far). but having read through some posts on the forums it looks like i'm probably overpaying at the main dealership, plus i'll be keeping the car until its no longer roadworthy so not worried about full main dealer service history.
  • Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 estate buying advice 18 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Also is servicing costs going to be expensive? I generally do a basic service myself as well as exhausts, brakes etc. Im wondering if its easy enough to reset the service interval on these cars? Thanks all
  • Lexus LS430 - Quality of Parts making up modern cars? 30 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I wonder whether anyone has any views on whether a particular make or car has better quality components making up its construction than others. I once had a Lexus LS430 and the brake discs, for example, were very heavy and of good quality. I also think that modern cars seem to be getting lighter and flimsier components as manufacturers try to save money and push up MPG? Anyone like to suggest a car which is better made than others - leaving out super cars and Rolls Royce's etc etc   Kind Regards SimonT2
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.9 SE TDI 3 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I’ve taken it to a VW dealer who had kindly informed me that the head gasket has 2 broken brakes in it which is causing the problems.   Can anyone shed on light on this as I never heard of this happening.
  • 2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (9N) - Dodgy CV Joint? 23 Jul 2013 (Forum)
It's fine during normal driving, apart from what I can only describe as a very slight wobble / shudder sometimes during braking and acceleration (not felt through the pedal or steering wheel). I've tried driving slowly in a circle with full lock on in both directions and in reverse, but the clunk is only there when the steering wheel is returning from full lock back to centre.
  • Audi Q5 - Towbar electrics 28 Feb 2013 (Forum)
My dilemma :-  Having spoken to the Audi technical people they tell me that when the new wiring kit is installed a diagnostic programme has to be completed at a cost of £138. If there proves to be a problem, ie with the braking system ABS Reversing sensors or dash board warning lights, and it is not the fault of Audi, then the warranty would be void. How good and reliable are the kits on todays market. Has anyone had a bad experiance surely not every body with a Q5 takes the car back to Audi to have it done regards Pete

  • Citroen Saxo Forte W Reg - Crunching & Trouble engaging gears 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My Saxo has started to give problems when trying to engage either first gear or reverse, when actually getting it into gear there is a lot of crunghing and grinding of the gears, all geselection is becoming difficult but first and reverse are the worst.? Yesterday the car seemed to keep accelerating despite my braking this was a bit of a worry as I was joing the M25 at the time. I eventually managed to get the car into fifth and then it seemed okay, except engaging all gears was very stiff. Is this a gearbox problem or clutch?
  • Police involvement after RTA - confused... 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I was involved in an accident recently where I pulled out of a parking space and moved off down the road. A motorcycle saw me do this, braked to slow down and fell off his bike. I followed procedure and rang police gave my statement, they assured me all was fine. I informed my insurance company in case third party put in a claim and they were unconcerned as no collision.
  • Super Market Car Parks 8 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Why is it that when I am backing out of a space in the supermarket and I am half way out, some idiot decides to squeeze past me, leaving me to slam on the brakes, or worse some pedestrian steps out into the path of my reversing car. This is true also if I decide to reverse into a space Why is it that when I decided to park my car away from the store were there are lots of spaces (which I usually do) someone parks their car right next to mine.
  • MOT advisory 3 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I recently brought a car and have seen that it had advisory of BOTTOM METAL WATER HOSE CORRODED - N/S/F WISHBONE BUSHES STARTING TO SPLIT - N/S/F BRAKE PIPE CORRODED - FRONT EXHAUST BRAKET BROKEN in 2011 . It passed its MOT this year without mention of any of these issues but I note there is leaking water and there is slight occassional noise when I am driving .

  • Volvo V70 - Dual Mass flywheel 28 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I recently had a new master brake cylinder fitted which involved opening the gearbox. A new clutch was fitted at the time and I was told that the dual mass flywheel was in the middle of its tolerances and did not need changed. However there has been a problem with the clutch with it being extremely stiff so they are going the strip the box again and fit another one.
