2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (9N) - Dodgy CV Joint? - Braunschweig
I can hear clunking coming from the driver's side, mainly when I reverse out of my driveway and turn into the road after the car has been parked overnight.

It's fine during normal driving, apart from what I can only describe as a very slight wobble / shudder sometimes during braking and acceleration (not felt through the pedal or steering wheel).

I've tried driving slowly in a circle with full lock on in both directions and in reverse, but the clunk is only there when the steering wheel is returning from full lock back to centre.

Any thoughts on what this could be?

Sounds like a CV joint, usually more of a click than a clunk. Could possibly the o/s driveshaft centre bearing.

Could be a broken coil spring. Get it checked out. Regards Peter

Thanks for the replies - I'll get it checked out.

It is hard to describe the noise. I wouldn't say it's a clicking, more of a rubbery-clunk if that makes sense.

Just incase anyone has a similar problem...

I had the car looked at today and the mechanic said it's a roll bar bush that's in the very early stages of going. Everything else seems good and tight.

Thanks again for all the replies :-)
