  • Corsa 2001, squeal when turning 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Just starting happening, when I turn right to go around a roundabout or turning right at a junction the nearside front wheel squeals, like a rubbing brake pad, it only happens as the steering load is going onto the wheel. Have I picked a piece of grit that only rubs when turning right. Any thoughts. Bert

Its going in to the garage on Wednesday for rear brake change, so I'll mention it to them then, but was hoping someone here might be able to suggest something. Cheers in advance Ben
  • Are there any Mirafioris still running 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I received a phone call two months later asking if I was still the owner as it had been nicked and abandoned in Stafford. The brakes were awful. I had to pump them to get the thing to stop but it was a brilliant car to drive.
  • Unused Corrado G60 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm due to start haggling for a Corrado G60 which has been unused for around 18 months. I want to factor in relpacing. Tyres Fluids Brake components (supercharger was changed 2 yrs ago for £800. Is there anything else I should allow for replacing when haggling? Also - following the demise of vw-corrado-club.co.uk is there another site for users of the corrado?
  • rusted bleed valve nut! 1 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Just changed a brake hose on my mk2 golf. I've come to bleed the system but can't open the bleed valve as the nut is rusted. I've tried some penetrating fluid but it does not budge. The nut is begining to become rounded so that a spanner will soon have no grip on it.
  • cleaning alloys 8 May 2003 (Forum)
Having recently acquired my first alloy-powered car, are there any tips, do's and don'ts when it comes to caring for alloys. I'm used to applying the magic sponge to car wheels and I'm sort of conscious that the brakes are rather more visible with alloys than with normal wheels. Would car wash soap suds be doing alloys the world of "bad" or good? Advice gratefully received. Splodgeface

It is currently on about 20 clicks and is just starting to roll backwards now but I cam't find where to tighten the cable. I had it up on ramps yesterday to change the oil and couldn't see anything at the front end and its definatly not on the inside behind the handbrake itself

  • Citroen Xsara Performance 'Dip' 2 Jul 2002 (Forum)
When driving along as normal, everything is fine until I lift my foot of the acc. there is a momentary lull in performance, almost as if I have dabbed the brakes. This happens in all gears and tends to be somewhere between 2000-3000 revs. Any ideas out there? Barry.

  • Vauxhall Corsa - Pls help! Rear ended a car that suddenly stopped 8 Mar 2011 (Forum)
We were proceeding down a slope when I saw the BMW stop, and then signal to turn right after a traffic light, which was green at that time. So I quickly hit the brake pedal and slowed down and then he started to move off. Then, the BMW braked unexpectedly at the middle of the road and I jammed my brakes too, but it was too late. Before we had time to react to the shock or even take down his car plate number, he drove off.
  • Mini Cooper F56 (9/14 reg) - Brake pad replacement Mini Cooper F56 17 Jun 2017 (Forum)
https://www.mini-service.co.uk/value_service I have challenged the dealer ... they claim that as Mini UK have not (yet) released a "service value kit" for the brake pad change on the F56, they have to charge more than double the price of the job on previous models. I also challenged the pricing with Mini UK Customer Service - they didn't use the "new model" defence but stated something which is most worrying ...
  • MINI Cooper and Cooper S - How safe are our Classic Cars? 11 Dec 2015 (Forum)
There is much consternation and frustration that parts now being supplied are not fit for purpose and whilst 'original equipment's' may have lasted years and decades, the poor quality items available today may only last weeks and months. In some instances the spare parts that can be considered 'safety critical', covering brakes, suspension and drive train are failing without warning and could in the wrong set of road circumstances could lead to some horrific accidents. One example I will give you is the humble 'Brake Pressure Switch', an item that when the brake pedal is pressed operates the brake lights to signify to all following that you are slowing down.
  • VW Passat (2000-2005) 1.9 TDI PD (AVB Engine) - Charge Pressure Control Fault 17964 & Brakes 24 Jan 2013 (Forum)
When I start the engine and start to move with the engine idling (e.g. reversing back down a hill) the brake pedal is very heavy - i.e. like it is not getting any servo assistance whatsoever - I have to pretty much stand on it. If i give the engine a bit of boot the pedal is like normal once again.      I did do a 1800RPM in third gear to red-line with the VAGCOM logging.

  • Any - Advice from HJ 30 May 2019 (Forum)
I have taken up the subject with the Institute of Advanced Motoring and got this reply: “I would teach and advocate the use of the right foot to operate the accelerator and brake pedals – with a bit of common sense we can figure out quite quickly we will not want to go slower and faster at the same time so will not be operating both pedals at the same time. A planned drive will make for a sensible bit of acceleration sense so we will be off the accelerator some time before we need to brake.
