Hi all,
Hopefully someone has experienced this problem and can help me out. When driving along as normal, everything is fine until I lift my foot of the acc. there is a momentary lull in performance, almost as if I have dabbed the brakes. This happens in all gears and tends to be somewhere between 2000-3000 revs.
Any ideas out there?
Barry.

My car does this too...take your foot off the accelerator and it slows down. Weird.
I guess I'm missing something here...

Thats very funny smokie, but if I wanted s***e from you I'd have squeezed your head.
As I say, as if the brakes have been 'dabbed'. There is a definite dip, as if the car is about to cut out.
Thanks again, smokester ;-)

Once the "dip" has finished, does the car slow normally, like any other car when you have lifted off the throttle?
Which model do you have? What age? When was it last serviced?

Seems a little bit like what my 309 does - interesting. Take foot off and it gradually slows down. HOWEVER when braking or even just coasting, there is a definate 'bump' at 2000 revs, happens every time. Not violent but its there. It hates dropping below 2000 too. I don't know when a full service was carried out last when I bought it but the prev. owners said 'recently' and the oil was clean. May just be engine management; the light did come on for a few seconds once.

I think I knwo this feeling;
As you take your foot off, it feels like the engine stalled giving a load of engine braking, and then moments later catches again and gives normal engine braking.
Is that the one ?

Thanks for the replies,
To answer the questions, its a T reg West Coast which has about 20k on the clock and was service last when I bought it 14 months ago. It does sound alot like the simptoms described, esp. the 306 problem which I suppose would make sense.
Any further diagnosis would be greatly appreciated, I would like to get as much info as poss. before I go to the dealer.
Thanks again.

Most cars have overrun fuel cut off. When you close the throttle above about 1500 revs the fuel goes off completely. If you got a fuel consumption indicator you can clearly see this. If the revs drop down to that level it come on again to prevent a stall if you declutch. The resumption of fueling is sometimes noticeable, and this may be what's happening here.

That sounds plausable, when I run down a hill, say in 3rd gear, the car has a definate change in tone from just under 1500 revs to just over, the engine also seems more free.
I read in the latest Citroen magazine that the HDI diesel has a fuel cut off, but does the petrol models? I thought there may be some concern over shooting fuel into the cat when it restarts.

Yes, it's petrol engines I'm talking about. Putting an 'idle' fuel supply on doesn't seem to bother the cat.
