Nissan revives Datsun brand with new small car

Published 15 July 2013

Nissan has revived the Datsun brand with a new five-door small car called the Go, which will be sold in India. There are no current plans to bring the Go to the UK, but it’s set to be sold across the Far East, as well as in  and South Africa and Russia. It’s to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and is priced at 400,000 Indian Rupees, which is about £4500.

The Go has been designed for developing markets, where people are seeking their first new car but have tighter budgets. The Datsun Go, however, looks to offer most of the basics despite its price, including a mobile phone dock for connecting smart phones.

The Go is to be the first of a series of cars set to be introduced by the new Datsun brand. It can trace its origins back to Japan almost a century ago, when most people had very little hope of getting on wheels – Datsun offered relatively affordable options and it’s that ideal that has inspired the reintroduction of the brand.
