The downside with upgraded bulbs is that they also tend to have shorter lives.

Possibly not the bsi . Bad connections to the lights and burnt earth wires causes the bsi to shut down . All this needs checking followed by a bsi / battery reset procedure.

Is there a full list of cars available with a Torque Convertor Automatic gearbox ?

No idea, but the easiest way to find out whether a car has one is if the 0-60 (or 62) time is 0.5 - 1.5 sec slower than the equivalent manual....

I took delivery of my sportage on 23rd July 2022 opting to use my own contact for ceramic coating which was due two weeks after I got the car on the 5th of August. My detailer noticed a problem with my paint work which isn't immediately obvious unless looking extremely carefully. It looks like dried on water marks - which despite every treatment at his disposal, and the the Kia Dealerships, they remain.

I reported the problem ( to the dealership) on the day that I became aware of the problem (5th August). I was advised that the vehicle would need a paint inspection, which took place on the 5th & 6th of September. (The inspection too two days as every panel had to have its own inspection report - the only parts not affected are the bonnet and Glass sunroof)... Read more

Following a divorce I need to purchase a car for the first time. I've only ever been a named driver on my ex's car, he took care of all those sides of things so I'm feeling very clueless and vulnerable! I have two kids (one a rapidly growing ten year old) so was looking for five door hatchback, and I'm thinking of a Honda Jazz as I know they have a reputation as being reliable. My absolute maximum is £4500 but would prefer to keep under £4000. I've identified three locally (around Manchester) on Auto Trader:

2009 model with 50,000 miles priced at £4000
2012 model with 94,000 miles priced at £4000
2014 model with 97,000 miles priced at £4,400... Read more

Quite right on the Mazda re: its suspension 'issue' - I've had similar advisories over my Mazda3's 16+ years of ownership as it aged, due to wear and tear. It then gets repaired as necessary, depending upon the severity of the fault / likelihood it getting worse quickly (I don't do high mileage), though normally before the next MOT, and mostly within a month or two of the original one.

Common issues on most cars really as they age. Certainly not expensive. The best way to avoid such bills is to avoid potholes and speedhumps where practical and safe and where not, to drive smoothly and as slowly as practicable over them....

Twice in the last month or so, my new horn has failed to work. I bench tested it recently and all seemed fine hooked up to a spare battery. I assumed the horn could have been affected by the recent heatwave. (BTW - it is a right pain to test !) Today it failed when needed, but immediately worked with the steering wheel moved. I now suspect the "clock spring" in the wheel, but all other button functions work and there are no warning lights ( ie airbag ) lit up. I will not touch an attempt at a repair myself. Is this a known problem ? What sort of cost would I be facing ? Thanks. Read more

We’ve heard loads of cases of Fords now infamous Ecoboost 1.0 motors going pop early doors and many a tale of woe regarding Renault/Nissan’s 1.2 TCe engines failing catastrophically. I’ve just had a friends 2015 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 Turbo with 35,000 miles up suffer engine failure. The wee car has been neglected, she just looked confused when I asked when it was last serviced. But it looks like the car will be a write-off as a good used engine seems to be hard to find at sensible money.

Would I sink my money into one of these highly stressed tiny turbo motors? Nope, I’ll leave well alone, except maybe Toyota’s 1.2T. Again, when buying a used car, keep it simple. Had they opted for a basic old school 1.4 Corsa instead of the revvy wee 1.0 3cyl turbo it would more than likely still be running for many years to come despite the neglect. Read more

I shall downgrade my presence to lurker until Skidpan is either removed or leaves voluntarily. I’m tired of the personal attacks and constant arguments on almost every post made by both myself and other regulars. Life is too short for such juvenile behaviour.

There is no need FOR ANYONE to leave.. , but all, including us Mods, please stay polite.

Don't know about the rest of you lot on the forum, but I was oblivious to the existence of Michael Flatley's vanity project (even though it was apparently filmed in 2018) before last Friday when I heard Zoe Ball talking about it on R2.

She played part of the trailer which, TBH, sounded pretty cheesy, but of course Zoe being Zoe, she was very exited about the prospect of seeing it!.... Read more

Whilst I've never given any credence to the (IMHO) smug, egotistical mutterings of said Mr Kermode (similarly with many of his fellow MSM 'critics'), this is one time I'd agree with them, given the (IMHO) non-paid-for shill/woke MSM (i.e. properly independent and credible) critics are saying pretty much the same.

Still, the film has a lot of competition to be the worst film since 2000, never mind ever....
