Seen several cases of batteries failing on Nissans and the dealer refusing to replace under warranty.

In one case my friend gave up and had one fitted at an auto electrician which cost £120 but saved her all the hassle of dealing with Nissan....

I've a 58-plate (2008 Mk2.5) 1.8 petrol Focus that broke down last week due to a crap battery. The recovery guy said the alternator wasn't doing its job. He fiddled with a "small connector" and the alternator kicked back in again, but only for a few mins. He commented that the alternator looked new but the wiring could be dodgy.

Managed to get home and take it to an independent. He changed the battery (was only pulling 5V) to a Bosch S4 one. Tested the Alternator wiring as far as he could up to the main loom and there are no breaks. The alternator's 3-pin plug is getting a signal to and from the ECU too apparently. It's one of those SmartCharge things Ford is adamant is a good thing.

He reconnected the alternator and the car's idle went mental, rising to 2.5K and more without touching the accelerator pedal. We disconnected the 3-pin plug so it's now working as a standard alternator. Everything was fine for a few miles but now the following happens:... Read more

Apologies for the long post.

I've been looking at the best way to be able to pick up a car that I have bought and bring it home without the need to MOT, tax or insure it. I will be doing this regularly and so it will be worth it to have a proper solution. ... Read more

The Terracan has only got a 2,800kg towing capacity. However, if it is inherently a good tow car, then it would probably be fine as long as I stay away from really heavy cars for it to tow. It is around the price I'm hoping to pay though. What about pickups for around £2000?

The rear window on my S-Cross shattered after parking the car and I cannot fathom the reason for it to fail. The boot door was shut and with a loud bang the window collapsed in at either end where the glass curves over the door, and then most of the rest of the window fell in. The bang was so loud it brought people out of the school where I was dropping my children – the children were frozen with fear as they were in the car. I wondered if any others have experienced the same issue as there was no damage that I was aware of to the window and it was bizarre that the window shattering appeared to simultaneously start at the same instant at both ends. Suzuki UK have refused to repair the window under warranty as they do not believe it was faulty. Read more

Hello,

I'm interested to learn what drivers on here move on to after having owned an E Class Mercedes Estate? Is it another Estate or SUV? Is it an Audi, BMW, Land Rover/Range Rover (which model?) or something completely different like a Bentley or a Tesla?

I would be very interested to know as it may well influence my next purchase.

Thanks

A bit like a good suit, fine shoes, a quality winter coat, a good frying pan or a decent bottle of whisky, sometimes its worth paying a bit more for something that pleases you a bit more.

Pays yer money, takes yer choice I guess. Can't take it with you as they say ! ;-)...

Hello,

Just got it with a speeding fine for doing 88 in a temporary 50mph zone on a moterway.
Wondering if there is anyway of appealing it. I’m 23 and can’t afford £1000. It was an early morning open stretch of road no road works. Had the visor down? Read more

Worth checking if the traffic order was in force at the time you committed the offence. In many case the signs go up before the order comes into force. You will then plead guilty to exceeding the statuary 70mph limit that was in force.

If it was a 50mph stretch within a "variable speed limit" area no traffic order is required....

Was pulled over after doing a 50 in a 30. They told me that at that speed it wouldn't be a fixed penalty notice but a summon to court.... Read more

Inexperienced daughter wants to put her £3000 savings down on a Baleno SZ3 at a national dealer, and finance the rest, which is £5000.. It's an 18 plate 11000 miles.

I won't go through her life story but she thinks the car is an "investment" and has a history of making expensive impulse purchases on shiny things.... Read more

About the OPs Baleno The SZ3 is I believe the 1.2 na engine. I'd recommend the SZ5 or at least the 1litre turbo version. I have that engine in a Swift well my wife has the car. That engine is superb.

Don’t have an exact date, but the homepage / ‘latest reviews’ section has been showing the A3 Sportback review for a good 2-3 months now.

I wonder what the sites new owners have planned, as the updating of content seems very slow. Even in a Covid-world or delayed launches, ‘other’ motoring websites are regularly adding reviews for new models.

Under the News section, the Ford Kuga PHEV recall story that broke perhaps 10 days ago has just appeared on 18th August!

...slight thread drift (already!) but scrolling down the new A3 Sportback review, I was amused to see that included as one of its top three rivals is the Peugeot 308 (alongside the Mazda3 and the Merc A-Class), but the BMW 1 Series isn’t even mentioned! Can’t see too many people who want a German ‘premium’ badge settling for a Pug 308. Read more

It seems the last consideration for any road changes is the car. Cycle lanes in sunny Basingstoke never seem to have a cycle on them yet they take up loads of space, obviously some Colchester council guy has been to Holland and thought their roundabouts were awfully pretty.....pint of advocaat landlord please.....
