Unlikely to be immobiliser faulty. I would check wiring and main fuses by the battery.

Heard a squeaking from a drive belt yesterday morn, got to work could smell a slight burning rubber smell.

Lifted bonnet, there's the culprit, lock nut securing the aircon belt pulley to its adjuster bracket has vanished and the pulley has been rubbing on the front timing belt cover, shock horror its cut right through and rubbing on the edge of the cambelt itself!... Read more

Almost never see anyone take a brief once around the car, just dive in start up and off they go, the thing could be sat on bricks or the nearside be ripped out by a passing lorry for all the attention they paid.

Agreed. Its the right time to spot a partially deflated tyre or something more serious. Rather find out before I set off than have it become apparent on the road....

A friend has had his lower left leg amputated. He has been told he needs to tell the DVLA and winders what the likely outcome will be. Will he get an automatic only licence. He is keen to get back on his BMW motorbike after converting to hand gearchange.

Thank you for all the responses. They have made him feel much more positive after what was an unexpected and traumatic experience.

Hello

What's the difference between the various automatic transmission types? From reading on here, I've seen references to torque converter, automated manual, CVT and semi-automatic. Are there any other types? Is one type better than the other?... Read more

the Honda C90 and its derivatives, which has a centrifugal clutch.

IIRC the Honda 'step throughs' only used the centrifugal clutch for pulling away. A cam on the gearchange operated the clutch for gear changes (never seemed to be adjusted).

Hi all,

Thinking about selling my car privately for the first time. However, I'm a little worried as a few years back we sold a laptop on Ebay, the money entered my account and was subsequently taken away as it transpired the buyer had committed fraud and bought my laptop with someone else's card (so I lost the laptop and the money :( )... I’ve never had any trouble selling cars from the door. A non refundable (it’s meaningless if not) deposit is made to secure it then a bank transfer is made for the rest which you verify online and I typically move into a second account before releasing the car. Not sure if this would help stop any clawback but it makes me feel safer. Gauge the buyer carefully too. If they’re Dodgy and overly eager to pay full money then be wary.

You are very welcome!

Thanks for coming back and letting us know the code worked. I did this particular code using a website that we don't normally use for codes, hence I wasn't 100% sure the result would be correct. However, fortunately it was!

I just Googled "Trustpilot Radio Codes" and after a couple of failed attempts with websites that wanted money I came across the following site which I used to do your code:...

Do the current generation of HJ journalists actually read the question they are claiming to "answer"?

I read today a response to the question " Are there any cars that will fit a mattress in the back" posted by Andrew Brady ... the question makes it quite clear that the requirement is to "fit a mattress and climbing gear into the back and sleep overnight".... Read more

Ed sleeping in a car in Aberdeen all year round is a serious feat of endurance. I was there for a few years in the 70’s and, apart from the brief summers, it can be unremittingly cold. Were you studying glaciation first hand?

I'm looking at a car from a private seller (haven't contacted or viewed the car yet) and I've done an MOT history and it's highlighted the same failure (amongst other things) in each of the last three MOT's:... Read more

The council of Bilbao, where I live, has decided to implement a blanket 20 km/h (approx 30 mph) speed limit across the whole town, having introduced a lower speed limit in many streets a year ago. Bilbao is roughly the same size as Cambridge or Southend (16 sq.mi), but has twice the population (345,000) and it is part of a much larger metropolitan area. 62,000 cars enter the town every working day, though public transport (buses, 4 train networks, metro and tram) is excellent, the bike lane network is good and parking is well provided, although expensive.

As a pedestrian, bus and metro user and occasional cyclist and motorist, I can see great advantages but tremendous drawbacks to a "one size fits all" project, and I suspect it is a social experiment with a bit of marketing and publicity thrown in (no other town or city of 300,000 or more residents in the world has a blanket 30 speed limit, so we will, like it or not, be firmly on the map when this starts.)... Some statistics are in from the first 7 weeks in our slowed-down town, the only one in the world of its size (over 300,000 population) with a blanket 20 mph limit. Makes for interesting reading.... There have been year-on-year reductions in numbers of cars entering the town, crashes, pedestrians knocked over and many more. The most dramatic figures relate to fines for red light jumpers (-43%) and air pollution: NO2 (-3%); NOX (-9%) and particulates (-11%) At the same time urban bus usage is up 11%.
It's early days, but the statistics tell the story; unlike the LTD zones in London, traffic problems are not displaced to other areas and there are no rat runs, as it's 30 km/h everywhere and people are begrudgingly getting used to the idea. Long term, it will be interesting to see if cars run less efficiently or suffer damage from all this low speed driving.

Hi - I've just bought a 52 plate (2003) Micra (because I got rid of my Polo two years ago because I didn't need it but wasn't planning on being asked to return to work!).

The bodywork is in excellent condition - it's only had one owner - but both glass to door window weatherstrips/scrapers are worn down to the metal on both doors - just in the middle 6 inches or so - I'm not even sure that they're called this but it's the bit on the door with felt inside to stop stuff going down the window....
