I understand from looking at the service docs that a 'special tool' aka tappet holder is required to adjust the valve clearance on this engine. Current mileage is 70,000 and the engine is sounding a little tappety (Excuse the outdated term). I'm happy enough doing basic servicing and changing parts but this seems out of my league.
My usual indy didn't seem to think it was a job they could do, due to the tool (Although waiting for confirmation). I try to support smaller business so I just wondered if anyone knew of somewhere in or near to Surrey that could be relied upon to do this job properly (As opposed to a quick wipe of the cam cover and a change to thicker oil!)... Hi
I have been thinking of buying this car as it meets a sweet spot for price/features/age. Considering spending up to £14k on a model 1-3 years old.... Read more
I want to thank you very much for this reply. I followed your advice and now have a bit more detail from a Facebook group for owners that I want to share, in case anyone else lands here:
"Suzuki has Aisin automatic, which is more a classic automatic, you only have to change oil regulary in the transmission and you'll be fine. No any dual clutch as in case of VW DSG, this is a 6 speed Aisin AWTF-80 SC unit. Oil you should use has to meet JWS 3324 standard in every 60000 km."...
Hello guys,
Last Friday I was driving dual carriage way and suddenly noise started appearing. It was like the belt got broken or something sort of rhythmic knocking sound. A minute later lights flashing on the dashboard appears indicating low oil level and steering wheel problem and than car just stopped. Engine got seized. It is five years car with 70K on the clock. I just wonder what would be you suggestion. Unfortunately it is my misses car and she just bought it a year ago and still have to pay for it as she took it on finance. Read more
The reason I asked about oil level being checked wasn't just because of the engine running low on oil, it might be that as it is a diesel that the oil level could have been rising due to failed DPF regens polluting the sump oil with diesel if the car was only doing short journeys. Was the original message "low oil level" or "low oil pressure" ? - you usually get the latter when things are about to go bang! ...

My 60 year old Mercedes diesel runs great with no smoke but I had to get the injectors cleaned and re calibrated, but they are now good for a further 20 years or more.
Good gracious - is that a W120?...
Hi my Meriva has a battery drain issue that is proving tricky to resolve. The battery and alternator are apparently fine but the battery is being drained when the vehicle is off. It is currently with the garage but they are scratching their heads after checking all the fuses and relays to no avail. Does anyone have any experience of this that could point us in the right direction, please? Read more
Your steering won't fail,it will just get heavier.
I want to buy a used car and I'm torn between a Honda Civic 1.8 i-VTEC ES-T and a Seat Leon ST FR with Tech pack and the 138bhp 1.4 TSI engine, both from 2014. I'm tempted by the Seat because it gets higher overall ratings in reviews, performs better, and the estate could be handy for taking my dogs out etc. However, the Honda is more sensible on the whole, and some of the gadgets seem better.
I want it to last me at least 5 years, probably considerably more, but I only do very low annual mileage, so I'm not overly concerned that the smaller turbo engine might not be so robust (should I be?). My main concern is that the electronics might play up, and this might be one area where Seat is weaker than other VAG cars. But even Hondas aren't perfect in this respect when they get old.... Indeed, i personally don't like having to rev engines hard to get decent go from them and a Honda isn't for me, i put that down to driving lorries for ever and it just doesn't feel right, nor is it enjoyable for me to have to rev an engine high, i suspect many turboDiesel car drivers would find the same, having long ago got used to that huge torque once the turbocharger came on stream, maybe ex t'Diesel drivers find themselves more at home in the new t'petrols.
Others like the Honda engine type driving experience, each to their own, my daughter for one though she's finding herself torn between her two cars, the later turbocharged Civic feels a bit dead to her at below spool engine speeds but once above that point all hell breaks loose, where the older NA engine provides in some ways a more fun experience for her despite having much less power as the flat spot at lower revs isn't quite so pronounced, its possible she's finding the typeR might be too rapid for modern roads....
looking for some collective wisdom from everyone.
Car has been running perfectly until Wednesday evening when I started hearing and loud rattling noise cooing from the rear of the car (2015 Nissan quashqai 1.6 dci xtronic) for 2 days I was looking for the source of this noise looking under the car checking the exhaust, heat shield any plastic trim and couldn't find the noise.... Took the car back to the supplying dealer this morning who sorted out the issue FOC within an hour so happy with the outcome.
are there any bright people on here that have seen this before?
Have had a new coded battery on dealers advice, fully charged by driving and AGM charger but still not fixed. dash fault code is CC ID 397 andd the "A" with an arrowed circle warning..forums suggest brake servo vacuum sensor, gearbox neutral indicator calibration or I think the most likely the gearbox electrical connector as the dealer reluctantly changed the sump a while back due to threading the bung and it leaked oil everywhere (now fixed at dealers expense).... I am on my 2nd Kia Ceed [2014 DCT petrol] which has now covered 52000 miles. My previous car was also 1st gen Ceed, which lasted 88k miles before written off in an accident.
When I changed to current Ceed in 2015, I wanted a Sportage but there was no petrol auto model available. After driving the manual Sportage and automatic Ceed, I liked the auto better so ended up buying Ceed....
I’m preparing to market my house for sale and as first impressions count I need to paint the garage door. It’s fibreglass and need repainting for the first time. The original coating has faded evenly and gone chalky. I researched paint on the net and am struggling to find one specifically mentioning its suitability for fibreglass. I’ve also look on a couple of DIY forums and it seems several people use ordinary gloss.... Read more
We bought a house a long time ago where the garage was painted with weird smelling paint. I didn't pay attention to it. Until the health problems started. My doctor said there was something containing lead somewhere in my house. I began to read articles on the Internet and found out that the main source of lead is paint. I removed the old paint, but first found a tool that analyzes the surface and shows the lead content. So it turned out, the paint in the garage was a time bomb.
All gloss paint used to contain lead and whilst lead is harmful as we now know once the paint was dry and not being abraded there would be no health risks....
Hello, did you ever find a tool to keep those buckets down when replacing the shims? Just curious as I have the same problem here and would rather not have to take off the camshaft to get to the shims that need replacing.
Thanks!
