has any experienced problems with their gear box. I have a 2018 plate 1.4 TFSI black edition s tronic and have been advised by my dealer that because I did not change the gear oil at the correct time/miles has caused a fault meaning a new main control gear box unit ECU is required (not covered under warranty due to me not changing the oil at the correct time doh and at a 2k cost). I have now been advised that the dealer requires a further £5800 for replacing all oil control valves because the main new £2000 ECU fitted will not calibrate with the gear oil valves. Would or should they have known this at the time they carried out their diagnostics to the original fault.

I would be most grateful if anyone has had any similar issues like this they can share and how they best took action with this. Read more

Hi I need advise in my case please. I had not fault accident back in Feb. I took car from the car hire company. The third part insurance accepted the liability, my car has been write off and I received the funds within 4 weeks. However the care hire company send me a email that the third party insurance now mostly refuse to cover the cost of the car hire and they require my bank statements for the 6 months to prove that I did not have sufficient money to cover car hire.

I don't understand why should I prove to them? No one told me that I have to hire a care on my cost when I had accident. It was not my fault and I thought that I am allow to take care hire. The gave me a similar car to mine (engine size etc). I don't understand what they try to do? ... Read more

Hello all,

My VW Golf TSi had a new Engine in June 2016. The car has been regularly serviced at the same VW approved garage before and since this repair. The engine has now developed a similar problem and I fear the same outcome.... Read more

Glad that it wasn't worse in terms of cost, Christian, although quite bad enough. Yes, moving the car on soon sounds like a good option.

Interesting that Andy mentions Richer Sounds. They have a consistently good reputation for customer care. Buying from someone with a 'good name' wherever possible is one of the best ways of reducing risk.

I have an 07 Fiesta. I have tried a few sources to find the radio code and all come up with the same code which is apparently incorrect. Believe the radio is stock. V049862 if it helps. Read more

It's very odd! I can't quite understand it.

Just to confirm what Elekie has said in that it will probably be cheaper to buy a replacement radio on something like Ebay than to attempt to get your radio tested and/or repaired....

Just passed a police officer standing in a crowd of people with what appeared to be a speed gun (no handle just a rectangular shape). I was probably doing about 34mph in a 30 limit.

I was wondering if I would automatically get a fine and points as opposed to a speed awareness course due to covid restrictions?... Read more

As a female am bit wary of asking on Cooper groups about mechanicals as they get very heated assuming we're all thick. On this forum you've always been helpful and polite so will post it here.......I have a R56 Cooper S. Now the air con has never been that cold albeit perfectly acceptable to me. I've only had this car 16 months so it might need a regas anyway ??

However leaving that aside when activating the air con its make the engine note rise considerably. At normal speed its not noticeable but stopping at junctions very much so (compared to before)... Read more

Jungerns

Perectly normal for the revs to rise slightly when the aircon compressor engages (usually with an audible click from the engine bay), nothing to worry about.

Yes it might need a regas at some point, but if its working well enough at the moment and there's a company locally likely to offer a discount for airon recharging out of season, might be an idea to get it done then...its what i'm planning with the family Forester, airon works but not especially cold, so will get it recharged if and when i spot a special offer...cheapest i've found so far is the local to me Formula One Fast Fit Autocentre, but that was last year for another car and prices may have changed since....

Hi all I know the ford auto box comes in for a bit of grilling when it comes to reliability but what about the Vauxhall’s auto box. Looking at the 2018 insignia 2.0 CDTI with an auto box - what should I look out for ? Read more

Gearbox is fine but Fiat designed engine tends to become very trouble prone beyond around 70,000 miles. You’ll notice few taxi drivers use them despite suiting the role size wise. Ask anyone who’s tried to run one as a taxi and you’ll hear loads of woe all engine related.
