hello there..

could anyone please have a look (listen) to this video of a serious clunking, crunching, grinding kind of noise that's coming from the driver's side front wheel area and that is becoming increasingly worse.

https://watch.wave.video/5ec29fe746e0fb0030929f99

it mostly (sometimes only) occurs when turning right (worsening the more the wheel is turned) at slow speeds especially uphill..

it's a passat estate tdi 1.9 2004

any opinions would be really appreciated, cheers! Read more

Just keep an eye on their condition always. And contact the specialists in the service center, and not on the forum. They will immediately help you

So you come on a forum advising the OP not to seek advice on a forum?...

I happened to see a 1950's picture of a Lambretta combo in Italy with the bike on the right. I thought it was strange and then I found one of a Vespa combo, also in Italy with the bike on the right.

Anyone have any idea why?... Read more

Vespa's had the engine alongside the rear wheel, can't remember which side, so that probably influenced the choice of sides.

Hello,

I bought this car with slight livable noise, it has developed, there is a noise about 6 x wheel rotation frequency, normal running and even when coasting downhill with engine off, depressiong clutch or light braking, noise is there, kind of scraping, gear/bearing type noise, evident from front of transmission tunel inside the car, changed the nearside wheel bearing, no difference, driveshafts seem to be ok, changed the oil in the gearboxes, all good and clean with no metal particles or chunks. I wonder if its time to replace the transfer box or main gearbox, propshaft universals look ok as does central support bearing.... Read more

Hello, I don't know if I am posting this in the right place, but I'm hoping someone can help me out. Recently my dad purchased a ford focus that was advertised without stating the condition of the car. It just stated some specs, and that the car needed selling fast. So my dad arranged a viewing and I went with him. I stayed in my car while my dad went on a test drive. My dad drove around the block, and heard a noise when he was driving and the guy told him that the car was fine except that the front left wheel bearing needed fixing. He never mentioned this before, and he told us and this was the only problem. We enquired how much it would cost to fix and it was around £100, so my dad asked him to reduce the price a little, so that we could cover the cost of the wheel bearing repair.

Now, we took it to the garage and it turns out that not only was the wheel bearing faulty as said, but the gear box is also gone. To fix this it will cost more than the cost of the car itself. I texted him and he replied saying "I said sold as seen", and "I'm not a garage". Clearly from his attitude I could tell that he knew this fault existed, and a gear box problem isn't one that can go unnoticed. Unfortunately because my dad only drove round the block and the speed limit was low, we could not tell about the gear box problem, and we assumed the sound was a wheel bearing problem like he stated.

One thing I was thinking is that if I could take him to small claims court, because I really need the money ASAP. I left my degree part way in September so I could help support our struggling family and this is the last thing I needed to happen to me, and I paid for the car since my dad didn't have the money. However, my main issue is that I haven't actually spent the money on the car yet, except for fixing the wheel bearing. I do not want the seller to pay for the repair, but I just want the seller to take his car back and give me money back. Would it be possible via small claims court to do this?

Honestly, my brain isn't functioning well right now. If I've missed anything out, or you need more info, please let me know. All help is greatly appreciated.

Are you sure this question will bring to the core?

Ford have not manufactured cars in the UK since 2002. Instead of asking for government help, perhaps they should go back to their roots and produce the no frills reasonably priced cars on which their global success was built.
Today they are just like the rest, loaded with expensive complicated "tech" which few owners really want or need, but "tech" keep prices and repair costs high. Read more

They, like all car manufacturers, need to review their extortionate pricing in order to generate more consumer interest.

At this point I usually quote a supermini like the entry-level Peugeot 208 costing a ludicrous £16,000, but that was launched a little while ago so other entry level superminis that have launched since have raised the bar ridiculously further since - anyone for an entry-level Honda Jazz for £19,000?

Good afternoon, would anyone be so kind as to offer a bit of advice with a credit hire agreement?
I had an accident that I believed was not my fault at a junction and my (cheap) car was written off.
I received a hire car through Auxillis with indemnity insurance. It emerged (many months later) that I wasn't as blameless as I had believed (I crept through a stop sign I hadn't noticed) and so Auxillis have cancelled the indemnity insurance and are coming after me for 4 grand (5 weeks car hire) cos they said I misled them.
Whereas I say I didn't and believed myself to be the innocent party until 3rd party dashcam footage emerged.
Surely that onus of proof is upon them?
Would it be wise to send them a letter stating that I reject their accusation that I misled them?
Many thanks for the time you've taken to read this. Read more

Not a lawyer and this should not be taken as advice.

I have dealt with credit hire companies on a professional basis. ...

Quite bad, with pin holes. The other end of this steel pipe was leaking at a gasket and / or O-ring, which is why I took it off. Made a polythene gasket from lay-flat irrigation hose and supplemented the O-ring with RTV silicone. No corrosion that end.

Having SORNed my MX-5 at the beginning of this emergency I am considering renewing the tax at the beginning of May. This I believe will give me time to complete all of the planned work about the house so I can enjoy it with a clear conscience.

Not that we intend to travel far but a drive around the nearby countryside would be nice having taken the lock-down seriously..... Read more

As predicted, the sky has fallen in here, heavy showers, hail and strong winds so car is now taxed but tucked away in the garage!

Next week looks better. And you can't tax it for part of a month - well, you can, but you'll still pay for the month....

Had my 2010 Caddy 2.0 in for a service earlier in the week. I have not had the invoice yet, so i'm not sure exactly what has been done.

First two days i was working after this, no issues at all. The third day (yesterday) i arrived at my destination, got out and immediately noticed a hot smell. Investigation revealed the o/s rear wheel was hot. Now to my untrained mind, this suggested a binding brake. But, while i have not had the opportunity to jack up the rear to try and spin the offending wheel, it certainly doesn't feel like it is binding. The driveway on which i was parked at the time was on a very slight slope and upon releasing the handbrake the van immediately started moving. Also, never noticed it again for the rest of the day, as well as not having noticed anything the previous two days.... Read more

I'm going for a sticking rear caliper piston/slider, but it might be the self adjusting park brake mechanism (i'm assuming this is the type) somehow clicked one too many and brought the pads too close.

Can't imagine your hell drivers routine would make this happen :-)...

Nager

The front brake pads have been changed twice since new (Sept 2016). First time Oct 2018 (12,200 miles).Second time in Nov 2019 (19000). So 2 sets of front brake pads gone on a car with only 19000 miles on clock!.
Any ideas of what is causing the problem ? Read more

Can't guess whether being an automatic would make a serious difference, but I would have thought not much. These days, post-asbestos, pads and discs tend to wear at similar rates, so it's funny that the OP has not been fleeced for discs as well. Unless there has been a misalignment somewhere, perhaps.

IMHO no car should need new pads that often, even with heavy braking. It only needs so much effort to stop a given car from a given speed, heavy or light.
