Hello,
I need some information regarding buying and exporting a car outside the UK. I am a EU driver license holder living in Northern Ireland and I need to travel back to my home but with the whole Covid-19 situation I try to avoid flying so I came up with the idea to buy a car and just drive back to my home country which is in the EU but since I've never owned a car in the UK I am not quite familiar with the legal matters and decided to seek for advice/information here.... Last chance saloon at 58 for an enjoyable car. Either a £30k post 2017 VED daily driver or £10k weekend car. This would be a keeper car so hopefully I can get something that won't spend it's time in the local mechanics... and it will be so cool that I will be able to sell it in the future without too much wallet damage. Convertible means I can enjoy it without too many speeding tickets so a nice exhaust note would be fantastic. I don't like automatics it feels like the clutch is worn out, but could be convinced ;-) Any thoughts? I'm 6'4" 110kg. Read more
Interesting as this is, it's not much help to Peter from Co. Down.
Peter, if you do go for a BMW , I strongly suggest one with a six-cylinder engine. The BMW straight-six is one of the great engines of all time, and is also thoight by most to be more reliable than the fours.
What are the buyer's rights if a car is bought in this way please? In particular a second hand car. My son put down a deposit for a car from Car Supermarket before lockdown and asked for the car to be moved from Bradford to Birmingham to go and view it. Lockdown then happened but he was contacted last week to say that the car is in Birmingham if he wants to complete the sale.
When he originally contacted them he was naturally expecting to be able to test drive the car. Where would he stand if there were any problems with it and should the price have reduced as this will be almost 3 months after the initial query, or is that just wishful thinking on my part. He is understandably wary about such a big purchase without being able to try it.
The car in question is a 2 year old i30 Tourer. They seem scarce. Is there anything else that he could look at in this price/size bracket?
I look forward to hearing from you in due course,
Kind regards,

I paid a deposit for a new Peugeot 2008 at the beginning of March, for a 20 plate. There was no stock in the UK of my exact spec, so the dealer said it would have to be a factory order, probably available in April. I am unable to ascertain when the car might be built. As things stand would I be within my rights to ask that the car be registered and delivered in September (70 reg)?.
Just before lockdown purchased a fiat doblo cargo 2008, and its now struggling to start. The glow plug/ heater light on dashboard flashes when the key is turned , then once out it struggles to start, might take two or three attempts to get her going. Would this be a problem with glow plugs? Or could it be something else?
Many thanks

Cheers all! Got my local mechanic to have a gander, seems as though I was running with no plugs working at all, started first time without them this afternoon ?? new plugs ordered and going to be fitted by the mechanic and will see how we go.. cheers??
I can't help noticing that on my street there must be close on 20/30 filthy cars, some with birds mess all over them, half flat tyres and goodness knows what else all over the bodywork and even under the bonnet.... Read more
I've put a reasonably intelligent battery charger on it a couple of times in that period.
Forgive the question, but..what is a "reasonably intelligent" battery charger....
Hi New so sorry for joining to ask for help/Advice - but difficult to get good advice for this type of thing.
Anyway my A3 had a big breakdown a few weeks ago, luckily still under warranty and with Audi Assist - so on Day AA and Enterprise did brilliantly getting me home and sorting a courtesy car out same day, of course both still working like myself during Covid lockdown.... Read more
Main dealers love making a meal of a job . If the clutch concentric slave cylinder is leaking within the clutch bell housing , then it’s not that difficult to see if fluid is dripping out the bottom of the gearbox casing .
Hi all, first new post.
I enjoy browsing Car & Classic adverts for many reasons, nostalgia, dreams etc. But get a bit fed up when auction houses like Matthewsons, ACA and Silvertstone's can monopolise the site. This must put some private advertiser off. Why can't they just post a general advert for their auction? . After all it includes a link to their page. Read more
I try not to look. It makes me depressed. Sort of like pornography, come to think on't.
Does that mean you try, but fail ? Maybe the depression has something to do with the part of the world you occupy ?
hello, my car bucks as soon as I pull away first thing in the mornings. I get the P0532 a/c refrigeration pressure low and P0101 MAF. would the A/C affect the mass air flow and cause the cars behaviour?.

Ac low pressure fault won’t affect performance. I would be looking for an air leak / split pipe in the inlet system . Could even be a split in the inter cooler.
I am thinking of re[placing my 60 plate avensis tourer with a 68 plate seat leon tourer 2.0 tsi dsg. I wouldn't normally go for an auto but this is in my local dealers at what seems to be a good deal. The real mpg gives a surprisingly good mpg for this model of 43mpg. This is a 2 litre petrol turbo with an auto box .. Is this real mpg right ??? Read more
Ok everyone/ Thanks for that. I ,may give it a miss then if the DSG box is really that bad..
Yes, there are, in my view, significant design flaws, but the majority of the problems stem from how the car (and by virtue the gearbox) is used. Dual clutch gearboxes were originally designed for performance on race cars (but obviously not longevity), and more latterly improved mpg over the traditional 'torque converter' automatic transmission....
