I have a friend with the aforementioned car. Sounds to me as though the cam chain is knocking. Car has now been taken to an independent who agrees that it is more than likely that the noise is cam chain related but says it would be advisable to ask the main dealer to give their opinion. He did not charge for his time and mentioned that the standard time was approximately 8hrs.

It appears this engine is fitted to a number of Dacia's,. Anyone know if this is a common problem? I notice that there are about 3 special Renault tools used to replace the chain and guide but it really didn't look particularly difficult with these tools. A replacement car has been purchased and this one will not be driven until I have researched the matter further.... Read more

I detect some inconsistencies here.

As recently as 18th March you published the following topic headed :
"Coronavirus : Used car prices set to soar as coronavirus hits new car production".
In the article an "expert" predicted that "A fall in registrations could, in fact, help support used values in the long term".

So much for "experts".

I totally agree, the site has really gone downhill since he left. What interests me is they now seem to contradict some of his advice. For example he always recommended Shell V Power fuel while this lot say it is a waste of money. I certainly trust his judgment more as it was based on real experience.

A mild refresh of a model these days is usually accompanied by a huge price hike - but it looks like the new lights and screen is 'only' commanding a hike of £900 on the entry level model.

Maybe Mini's were too expensive in the first place...…. Read more

Hi
I ordered a new vehicle ( VW Tiguan) in March of this year and it managed to get from factory to dockside in Germany.
It has remained there ever since
The vehicle was built in February of this year, and I am likely to see it arrive in the showroom around July.
What issues do you think this long term non use will cause, personally I don’t particularly want a NEW car that is six months old when I take delivery
Any other issues?

Thousands of cars can spend weeks or months in storage areas in the 'normal' run of things, as demand fluctuates. Perhaps your car may have spent a bit longer than is common, but it may have been better off in Germany than in the UK during the current long warm spell.

It should be prepped correctly after arriving in this country, so when you get it, just check that has happened.

I have a Renault captur that I bought from a dealer, they have had it back so many times but cannot get to the bottom of the knocking noise it is making and that they have tried numerous things, they are saying they think it is the way we drive the car and not changing gear properly...this is the response from them after I emailed again about the noise and suggested changing the anti roll bar bushes...

When we replaced the rear suspension components the bushes came with those components so were changed.
I would have hoped the Renault Garage would have suggested your idea if it was a possible solution.
We would need to know exactly what bushes you are referring to, we can then establish if we have already changed these or not.
If we have not already undertaken the work we will consider it.
From the recording you sent in, it sounds to me like the car could be being driven in too high a gear, as it is a diesel it is important to drive within the correct rev range, otherwise the engine and injection pump will try to compensate and create and uneven ride and noise.

I will post a link to a video of the noise is anyone could please shed some light on what it could be?

It seems that you have already given the dealer plenty of scope to put your car right. If it further turns out to be a major component due to fail you will be put in an even worse predicament. I would take the refund. There are thousands of cars out there just buy from another reasonable dealer or indeed the same one!
