Have had one of these for a few days, it’s a 1.0 eco boost with the highest 125 bhp engine. The titanium spec includes dual aircon, heated seats and infotainment screen with satnav, also the alloy wheels are not too big with fairly high profile tyres - surprisingly.
I’ve driven a mixture of roads including a long motorway stint during storm Ciara, where it was very composed and seemed totally unfazed by crosswinds. Motorways are where it shines as it’s very quiet at speed and the suspension smooths out all bumps I came across.
Away from the motorway I was less impressed, although it handles brilliantly and the steering is nicely weighted, I found the ride too hard and also the seat bases a little too firm, but I realise both these are subjective.
The engine is really gruff at low revs and you can feel that through the clutch pedal, however once your above 2000 revs it smoothsout and goes amazingly well for its size, I also averaged 45 mpg which I thought was ok.
The stop start system worked very well but I’m still a sceptic, as I am about electric handbrakes even though that worked well too. Would I buy one, well that’s easy because I couldn’t afford it so it’s not a choice I have to make, but I wouldn’t say overall that I was smitten.

There is a company online that repairs them, should it be that.
I'm of a mind to just live with it now....
Hi there this is my first post so apologies if this has been answered already!
I am looking to buy a bmw 1 series and I have a budget of £8000. I would ideally like to pick one up in the £7000 range leaving me with £1000 just in case anything goes wrong. I have made terrible choices in the past due to a lack of knowledge on cars bearing in mind they were both in the £2000 range. So I would just like to know what I should be looking for when buying a high mileage one series. I see a lot up at the 58000 mile mark and I was wondering if there was a reason for this? What repairs should I be expecting after the 40000 mile mark or looking for in the service records that should be fixed at that mileage.
I would also like to ask which model variant 8 should go for. I don’t do a lot of motorway driving and mainly do short 15 min or 30 min trips with a lot of stop and starting so would a petrol or diesel be better?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and I apologise in advance for any grammatical errors ?? Read more
Most would agree that the 1-series is good to drive.
IIRC old ("real") Top Gear were VERY scathing about it, 4WIW.
Sorry a few questions here!
After much deliberation and a few test drives, ans some helpful advuce on here, I'm after a Kia Ceed CRDI. A bit confused. Do I go for something in warranty still and spend £8-10k or would a low mileage 2011/12 with about 40k on the clock be good enough saving myself a bit of cash? ... Read more
All Kia service schedules are itemised on a check sheet available from Kia....if a qualified garage uses this check sheet , and used genuine parts to carry out the work , there should be no issues with the vehicles warranty.... Im not advocating having the car serviced outside the Kia dealer network , because there are many advantages in using a dealer , such as automatic recall checks , maintenance of the anti corrosion warranty , and not least peace of mind. It is always worth getting the main dealer to quote for the service anyway , as the "extras" they supply , such as free courtesy car , collection , wash/valet etc , are worth having , and the price may not be any more expensive than a non-franchised garage!! Also consider that , one day , you may want to p/ex your car , and a book full of main dealer stamps will add considerably to its p/ex value. But then , I may be biased......

the symptoms suggest the turbo is not operating as it should, the actuator that moves the wastegate or variable vanes may be faulty, some of these have a diaphragm which may have failed, even though the fault code suggests an electrical fault.
If your engine has the variable vanes these are prone to sticking due to carbon build up....

May be a fault with one of the front door lock electric actuators. You will need to strip off the door cards for inspection.
Just had the Clio's 3rd service and had its first MOT, the car is 3 years old and the car has just under 20,000 Miles on the clock, One of the things that was brought up was lipping on the brake disc and advised to get the discs and pads replaced in the next couple of months.
All my time having cars and my last megane had 50,000 miles on the clock and i have never had to replace the pads or discs.... Read more
Re the reply March 2021 buried in the text above , discs really should not need replacing at 8200 miles . Was this a main dealer? - sounds like an excuse for a nice easy earner as not covered under a warranty.
If the lip is just a mm or 2 leave it til the pads are worn out at least . Garages are very good at ' will need changing soon' ,or 'could be dangerous' euphemisms for 'lets rip off the customer ' , the workshop is quiet this week. Even when needed , ring around a prices vary hugely. Mercedes at £400 plus vat ish really take the biscuit- got mine done for £120 inc vat...

I was suppose to be flying to Tenerife on Saturday for a weeks holiday but have decided to cancel. The Corona virus is getting too serious to now ignore. My wife had shingles last year and this reduces your resistance to infection, there is another 70 mph storm moving in on Saturday and a couple of close members of the family have been taken into hospital recently(not Corona!) so we have made the difficult decision not to go on holiday. We will lose the £1200 that i have paid but I feel that it wouldn't be a relaxing time. What would you guys have done in my position?

In stark contrast to his very much brighter and sadly missed brother Christopher, I don't think Peter Hitchens has ever had an original thought in his life. He could have gone on to say that, much like when small pox, TB and polio were rife, we shall have to learn to live with C-19 until we develop an effective vaccine. Thankfully its mortality rate and survivor morbidity is considerably lower than those three - so far.
