'Just' £40k? I bet that hardly any farmer or genuine country-dweller will buy one, especially if they can only come on those ridiculous rims.

Most the sales will be to rich hipsters living in commuterland towns who pretend they live in the country and who never need more than all-season tyres on a standard road car to get around in winter on onto the school field for a car boot sale.

Yet more designer goods, and frankly, most of the aurdience already buys Evoques or suchlike from the LR brand, or won't touch them generally because they aren't as reliable or as sporty a drive as the opposition. Read more

So they seem to be saying the recall has an expiry?

It sounded to me as if the recall has already been implemented on your car, presumably when with a previous owner ?...

Apologies if this has been debated before but I am currently considering taking the out the equity (depreciating, naturally) I have in my car and either going with a personal lease or PCP.

I have always owned my cars before so this is very much new territory for me and I am not sure which is the better option financially and practically. The initial rental for a lease would be around £3500 followed by payments of around 400/month for 4 years. A PCP is slightly less but the initial payment would be higher given the car I am after (Audi Q5).... Read more

As ever your particular financial situation will determine your choices

Exactly what I said in post 2 but I think the word "will" above would be better replaced by "should". Common sense should prevail but as we all know those 2 words are rarely used together....

Hi, I’m not sure if this is being posted in the right place but I really need some help car buying. I am looking to buy a new car and the car I am looking at is a 2013 bmw 3 series with 40,000 miles on the clock. Firstly, is buying such a car with this kind of age/ mileage a good idea? Secondly, I have done a hpi check and the check came back with a mileage discrepancy. From what I can see the mileage increases at a steady rate with each MOT and nothing looks unusual. What could this be? Thank you. Read more

It is not a very reliable used option, it’s not cheap to maintain properly and it has flagged up a mileage discrepancy. Even if this turns out to be a mistake anyone else looking to buy or take it as a part-ex later on will see the same issue when they too HPI it and thus it’ll be worthless when you try to sell it.

I’d leave prestige brands like BMW unless you’re well financed and can afford either the ongoing repairs or a newer approved used car. I’d leave this one but if you can post a link to the advert I’d be curious to see it.

Watching an old Top Gear of approx. 10 years ago, where they used different MOD vehicles trying to demolish a house.

In the show they went to some place which had a huge stock of ex. UK/NATO land rovers, tanks, gazelle helicopters and special vehicles etc.... Read more

I use Holts Mixra screen cleaner, with a magic eraser. Spray on to the glass, leave for a few minutes then rub vigorously with the magic eraser. Rinse off and then do the same with wiper blades. And do it early morning or late evening when it's not too hot, so that the soap doesn't dry before you "erase" it.

Hello all again

Still looking for a second hand car 10 to 12 thousand.and as it's my wife's car for the kid stuff etc reliability is important. I looked at a grand picasso which I liked it had all the practically from a family point of view but with advice from this website and checking out various things I decided it's a bit iffy with regards to mot failures , too many non specific faults with regards to warning lights covering SRS problems, tyre pressure monitor, etc etc etc. A car which seems better and the better half likes is the Honda CRV , not to my liking ,not as practical but more reliable hopefully. However another of my choices would be the ford s max is this any good Read more

The few spares I had to buy for the Civic in the six years I had it were very reasonable. Like many Honda owners on here I used Cox spares for OEM parts. The most striking bargain was a battery that despite the car having stop/start was only about £80 delivered.

Servicing was also comparitively cheap - around the same as local indies - less if you take into account that the deal I had included free MOT and breakdown cover. Given that the CRV is a class above the service costs are very reasonable indeed.
