Hi,

I had an accident on the 3rd of February with the third party being completely at fault along with a witness however after the claim was being processed I noticed my tax had expired a month earlier. It was not my intention to be driving without tax and I rectified the issue by taxing the car immediately. When I taxed the car mid February online it showed that the tax is valid from 1st February which covers it for the accident date. I also paid for the missed January month of tax but my concern is about the third party paying out for the claim.

If the third party did ever find out that the car was untaxed at the time of the incident would they have the right not to pay out although I taxed the car as soon as I found out and says it's valid from the beginning of Feb?

I know road tax is more of a revenue system for HMRC and has nothing to do with accident liability and also unlike an mot which is important for road worthiness.

Would it be enough of a reason for them not to pay out? It was not my intention at all driving without tax but I was simply unaware and only for just over a month.

And if they did pay out but found out on a later date could they initiate a clawback style demand that I pay the full compensation amount, take me to court or maybe even try and do me for fraud?

And surely if I have paid all tax that was missed and due then I am all up to date with dvla and what I owe to the government. I know it was not taxed at the time of accident but paying the tax has made my tax valid from first of Feb and that's just the way it is and something which I can't control. It does seem like back dating the tax doesn't make sense but if dvla say it's valid from 1st Feb then it is.... Read more

Hi all. My S is fitted with the factory AM/FM radio all built into the circular speedo assembly, hence no DAB.

Does anyone know if there was DAB option at that time please ? I'm not looking to change the radio itself, but I have added a DAB adaptor going in through the Aux port.... Read more

Railroad.

That's also the case with mine. I have an original Pure Highway. I bought it in 2008. Only today I've fitted a new antenna and an adapter cable for a total of £16. I haven't been anywhere yet with a poor signal, so I don't yet know how much of an improvement, if any, it's going to make. Hopefully it will be better than before. I get a full signal where I live, but I lose it four miles up the road. Time will tell.

On the induction stroke oil will be sucked into the combustion area and burned during ignition. That's why worn rings cause a blue, smoky exhaust.

Yes, but if this Mini was doing that it would fail on emissions ? We haven't been told that is happening....

Does anyone know where the main/PGM-FI relay location is on a 2009 Honda CR-V 2.2 CDTI (diesel).

there should be one (main) relay in the under hood fuse box and another (fuel pump) in the cabin fuse box. But both fuse boxes do not have either relays. ... Read more

I am in need of some suggestions for a vehicle to be used for very long runs around Europe. I need something with a lot of space and where the rear seats fold down into a bed. So a minivan or van base. I had thought of a Nissan Elgrand but am put off by the fuel costs.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Seems like most of these are Japanese imports, which is fine, but I don't know a huge amount about what is available. Budget about 5k.... Read more

Have had one of these for a few days, it’s a 1.0 eco boost with the highest 125 bhp engine. The titanium spec includes dual aircon, heated seats and infotainment screen with satnav, also the alloy wheels are not too big with fairly high profile tyres - surprisingly.

I’ve driven a mixture of roads including a long motorway stint during storm Ciara, where it was very composed and seemed totally unfazed by crosswinds. Motorways are where it shines as it’s very quiet at speed and the suspension smooths out all bumps I came across.

Away from the motorway I was less impressed, although it handles brilliantly and the steering is nicely weighted, I found the ride too hard and also the seat bases a little too firm, but I realise both these are subjective.

The engine is really gruff at low revs and you can feel that through the clutch pedal, however once your above 2000 revs it smoothsout and goes amazingly well for its size, I also averaged 45 mpg which I thought was ok.

The stop start system worked very well but I’m still a sceptic, as I am about electric handbrakes even though that worked well too. Would I buy one, well that’s easy because I couldn’t afford it so it’s not a choice I have to make, but I wouldn’t say overall that I was smitten.

No direct experience and few will as they didn’t sell well but as it is basically a detuned version of the same 2.2 motor that caused a lot of trouble in the older IS220 I’d personally leave it be. I’ve seen the earlier cars smoking badly and being offloaded to auction. It’s known as a weak engine in the trade and attracts few buyers.

The 2.2's issues had been resolved by 2011 (actually 2009 iirc). It will be an EU5 for emissions if you have to enter any LEZ/ULEZs in the future.

That being said I am not a proponent of anybody running a modern, emission-equipped turbodiesel from any manufacturer out of warranty unless they are able to take the possible hit of any of the issues that can be common to any of those e.g. DMF/DPF/injectors etc. etc.

Hi there this is my first post so apologies if this has been answered already!

I am looking to buy a bmw 1 series and I have a budget of £8000. I would ideally like to pick one up in the £7000 range leaving me with £1000 just in case anything goes wrong. I have made terrible choices in the past due to a lack of knowledge on cars bearing in mind they were both in the £2000 range. So I would just like to know what I should be looking for when buying a high mileage one series. I see a lot up at the 58000 mile mark and I was wondering if there was a reason for this? What repairs should I be expecting after the 40000 mile mark or looking for in the service records that should be fixed at that mileage.
I would also like to ask which model variant 8 should go for. I don’t do a lot of motorway driving and mainly do short 15 min or 30 min trips with a lot of stop and starting so would a petrol or diesel be better?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and I apologise in advance for any grammatical errors ?? Read more

Most would agree that the 1-series is good to drive.

IIRC old ("real") Top Gear were VERY scathing about it, 4WIW.
