Hi I'm looking for some advice re. my late fathers car. My mother placed the car in her name and acquired all the relevant documents/certificates from the DVLA. She took the car to an Arnold Clark dealership and they bought the car from her, everything signed over, receipt/invoice given and we went on our way.
Less than a week later they called to say the sale was off after their head office told them they shouldn't have done the deal and told her she would have to come back for the car due to the fact they needed my fathers will as proof, there was no will. They told her that somewhere in their terms and conditions it says something to the effect. I have read their terms and conditions and can't find anything but what I do see is: ... Read more
There have been several reported sightings of an unmarked police car in this area and I believe it may have been next but one in a queue behind me yesterday. What looked like an old souped up black BMW, black windscreens, with various neon etc lights at the front including the blue-purple flasher variety. Plus what looked like extra powerful headlights when flashed. Query: If this vehicle flashes me indicating (presumably) that I should stop, am I legally obliged to take any notice? For all I know it could be a mugger and I could be a little old lady. If I drive blindly on, whether or not I have committed an offence, am I in breach of the law? I have received quite contradictory advice on this and I doubt that the Police, if I was to ask them, would give me a totally unbiased answer. Read more
Yes, that is totally right, but the police officer did not agree and just like thunderbird he would not be told any different.

Using a syringe to flush and bleed the rear brakes, it'll suck OK but it blows very slowly,
Stripped and cleaned both wheel cylinders. They weren't bad, and it didn't make much difference.... Read more
When the second clip pinged off into the bushes (I only managed to fit the first one upside down) I was about ready to give up and use a rope grommet (Just read "The Way of A Ship" so was in an Arrh Jim Lad mood).

Just changed job doing much fewer miles now with the odd weekend /holidays blast somewhere. Looking at the idea of buying something around £3000-£3500 mark (Saab 9-3 sport wagon) getting a bank loan and paying this off with 1 year and then selling the car again and getting £2000 back? What are people’s views ? Read more
Some pretty deviant definitions of bangernomics in this thread, so I’ll give you mine, which I think is closer to that of the originator of the term, though I’d have to look that up.
Bangernomics is buying and running a car that has had most of the market value rung out of it by depreciation, so it cannot depreciate much further....

Common clutch issue on the 1.6 GM diesel engine, after a few years they provided dealers with a fix.
Take it to a Vauxhall dealer and get some advice.

I had had a slightly worrying metallic tap from the engine for a while, and had topped the oil up and driven very sedately. Listening with a "screwdriver" to my ear it didn't seem to come from anywhere around the top of the engine. I hadn't listened from underneath.... Read more
You recall the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster caused by a Tsunami. Well it also swamped the Nissan spare parts place. Because at the time I needed a new nearside door mirror for my old T30 xtrail. Had to wait several weeks while they sorted themselves out. I would guess this crisis will pass in a couple of months and it'll be business as usual.
So is Hydrogen/ electric best for the future or is a plug in electric car best.
As per the title. My God BMW are designing ever increasingly ugly vehicles.

As stated although Scottish law does differ from English they are broadly similar and this issue is not that complicated. No will presumably means a modest estate. On your fathers death goods and chattels pass to his spouse, your mother. She now has title to the goods and chattels and can sell them if she so desires. Title is everything, you can sell on item you don't actually own but title never passes to the 'new owner' it remains with the actual owner. Presumably the Mercedes has no finance attached to the car, but I suspect AC would have done a simple HPI search to check this. I think the sale stands and they will have trouble reversing the process if you don't want to. AC are known to be a bit canny and maybe they think they have overpaid and wish to reverse the deal. Tough luck on them. If you are happy you are on firm ground tell them to jog on! I hardly think they are going to enter into an expensive legal suit for such a fairly simple matter. Citizens Advice will advise, as stated already. Refrain from getting the lawyers involved at this stage, they are the only ones who win generally.
Good luck. Cheers Concrete
